Police look into case of Briton found dead on bathroom floor

Responding to a call, police on Thursday (July 16) went to a house rented by a Briton and his Thai wife in Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Khanom district to find the tenant Louis Evan Vincent, 75, dead on the bathroom floor.

The body has been taken in for a post-mortem.Suwat Worawetchit, the owner of the house, said Vincent and his Thai partner had been renting the house for several years.

Two weeks ago, he said, the couple had a quarrel and the woman walked out and has not been seen since. When Suwat noticed that Vincent had not showed up outside the house in the morning as usual, he decided to check and found the Briton dead on the bathroom floor.

That's what they do quite well, or so I hear. Been close enough to a few deaths and non-fatal police incidents, and first thing they do is distract the residents with official stuff while one or two poke around looking for what they can steal, which I also heard. Just so there's no misunderstanding, we're talking about Thai cops, though of course we should add a reminder for our sensitive souls that it's quite possible not every single one of them are bent.

While there may be many examples of common thievery by officials abusing their position and emotional situations, as I heard, one Scandi guy, no legs, that's right, had a quad bike in the early days when they were novel and bladdy expensive, after the paperwork was done a uniformed cop was seen by me and several others driving it away, his wife asked about it later, apparently got stroppy when they said what quad bike, and they threatened to arrest her for making false allegations against the Royal Thai Police.

Neighbour died, nothing suspicious he was ill and expected to go anytime, but inconsiderate timing, wife had gone to the village the day before for another death, returned next day to a list of stuff including cash and gold that had disappeared. Don't get this wrong, I'm not accusing the cops, since there may be some other plausible explanation for the stuff being there when she left and not there when she returned after the premises had been in their custody for a whole day.

Useful tip for all: My wife knows where the loot is and has strict instructions for if I should suddenly croak, leave my passport and other docs out but lock everything up in the safe before calling the cops, then call our lawyer and a couple of neighbours, the cops have no authority to access the safe so do not under any circumstances give them the combo, and keep the master key with her at all times until they finish poking around and leave.
