Pork dripping in pig's blood on the other hand...
Not many folks travel to be socially distant. I don't see much point in traveling myself if I have to live like a hermit, I can wait for the vaccine. Thailand has done an excellent job at containing the virus, but it could come at quite a cost. The economic fall out proper has not even started, the world is in for a bumpy ride. To add to this, I think there is going to be something of a mental health pandemic in the very near future, with people losing their businesses , houses and being kept away from friends and families. We're a social species and living 2 meters apart and in "bubbles" is also going to take a mental toll eventually, it probably has already for many.
If I went to the UK I could not (well not supposed to if I plan to follow the rules to the letter) even sit down for a meal with my close and extended family. Seeing them is pretty much the only reason I go back to the UK, so until that changes I guess I'll be here in Mongolia- can work, can travel and can live close to normal- so I can't really moan too much.
I miss the days when I could guarantee to be the youngest poster on forums, time goes too quickly.
Not quite sure why you would lump Australia in with that lot. By international standards the worst hit state Victoria still has relatively low numbers. My own state currently has 4 active cases (all from overseas) and no community acquired cases for 30 days with many states similar or even less. Australia has less than 1700 active cases with most in Victoria and then NSW, many of which were caused by families breaking the rules over Ramadan. I do realise this may have escaped you with your busy schedule campaigning for women's rights in sandyland.
You're all arguing about who's old and who's not when it means fuck all anyway.
Christ sake.
I will be older tomorrow.
^ only if you are still alive...
Some parts of Thailand will be better if there are places that end up closed permanently.
Let's see what the winter brings...
There's only one alternative to being old, and most people try to avoid it.
My friend who lives in Phuket has similar views. He reckons that if there is no second wave then for the bar owners it will all be down to December takings. He tells me (I don't know myself) that December is the big money month and that that money is used to cover off annual licence payments in January. His assessment is that quite a few operators will wait until the end of the year then decide whether to splash out more cash to cover the lean months ahead or just cut and run.
That is only talking about bars. Of course there are tourists for whom the bars are not a big part of their holiday, so different sectors might feel the impact differently.
As you say, let's see what the winter brings.
I guess it boils down to the definition of a "Tourist". Like AO said below, being I live here and travel to a resort or a retreat I am just a guy with his wife on a local vacation. I did not fly into the country to sight see or travel around on a 2 week getaway in a tour bus then fly back to my home country.
Me neither, same in the US, when I went out boating or camping or to a casino for 2 or 3 days I sure did not consider myself a tourist.
A definition as google states;
Is anyone who travels to places other than the one in which is his habitual residence, outside of their everyday environment, for a period of at least one night but not more than one year and whose usual purpose is different from the exercise of any remunerated activity in the place to which he goes.
^^Yeah, firstly...that makes you a tourist when you visit beach resorts in Thailand. I mean, just read it for goodness sake.
Secondly...dictionaries are the best place to find definitions of words. And links are good.
And thirdly...imagine you were 'walking past yourself' sat in a deckchair at one of these resorts. Would you not consider the person you were looking at a tourist?
Most people like to be tourists at places where there aren't many tourists. It's just one of those things. However appreciating the lack of 'stinking tourists' at a place where on is a tourist is hypocritical.
YD was, astonishingly, quite correct to point this out.
Well this will be one of these agree to disagree. Habitual residence is where one lives. I live here and have. I own a home, pay taxes. When I go to a resort a couple hundred miles away its a vacation because I live here. Now if I went to Vietnam or Malaysia etc I would consider myself a tourist.
Regardless, YD is still a dim bulb....
You can be on vacation staying at home. You can be on holiday staying at home.
However, if you are travelling a couple of hundred miles to stay in a resort, you are a tourist. A domestic tourist, but a tourist nonetheless.
You can decide to disagree, but you're still wrong.
