Seven groups of foreigners expected to be allowed entry

The government plans to allow seven groups of foreigners to enter the country, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, the spokesman of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, announced today (June 22). The committee has divided these into two main groups.

The first group may not include those under the so-called “travel bubble” international pact as they may be required to undertake state quarantine on entry:

    1. Businessman and investors (around 700 have registered to enter).

    2. Skilled labourers and exporters who need to inspect factories or for specific business purposes (around 22,000 have registered).

    3. Foreigners married to Thais, or permanent residents of Thailand (around 2,000 have registered).

    4. Medical and wellness tourists (around 30,000 have registered).

The other group comprises travellers who won’t need to go into quarantine on entry:

    1. Businessman on short-duration stays, including those coming into the country for business discussions. This group might need a specific area and intense screening both before travel and at arrival at airports. Considered a “power group”, these are entrepreneurs who will visit the country to sign business contracts or inspect sites or factories, which is essential to the economy.

    2. Government guests who are invited for ceremonies or specific seminars.

    3. Tourists under the travel bubble. Dr Taweesin said that the target countries are China, Japan and South Korea, which are presently trying to contain the virus.

The CCSA aims to discuss the issue in depth with the Cabinet after finalising the details.

Does anyone know how to go about registering from overseas?

Or is it now closed because 2,000 have already registered?

You need to apply for a 'certificate of entry' from the Embassy or Consulate closest to your current location.

Thank you for sharing this information. Good news indeed.
We were in the US when this thing happened, and getting ready to come back to Thailand
(we split our time between Florida and Khon Kaen)
We suspended plans to travel until things with Covid 19 improved , and got trapped in the US
(A mistake in retrospect , I would much rather we were in Thailand )
My main concern when allowed to return (married to Thai ,own home in Thailand) is not virus conditions in Thailand so much as it is traveling there. As I mentioned earlier, we are in Florida , which means multiple airport transfers, layover in airports where I have little control over the environment, and a close to 24 hrs in transit. etc.
We usually brake up the trip with a week or two layover in Europe visiting Family and friends but this is not an option during Covid Times.
So even though I am anxious to get back to Thailand, and excited over the news of soon re-opening . I think I will give it a pass for a couple of months and see how things play out. But dont be surprised if I take a deep breath, a few tranquilizers, pour a gallon of Purell over my head and go for it.
I cant stop thinking about Thailand, I guess you never miss something as much as Until you cant have it.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

So, they've targeted three countries for "air bubble" tourism which are all experiencing significant second wave COVID infections?

    Yep, that'll do it.

Still, at least Chinks, Japs and S. Korans aren't dirty foreigners who spread contagion because they don't wash or wear masks, eh.

One wonders if obtaining a re-entry visa before travelling will be sufficient to permit a return from a trip abroad or do they require this certificate in addition?

Do you suggest countries still being battered by the first wave?

Or just go with lockdown until this time next year?

So what's the problem with allowing entry to Japanese, Chinese and Koreans in the relatively near future, most likely after they've been tested?

They're all countries that have the disease relatively under control, and the situation isn't going to be truly under control for a long time.

What alternative approach would you like to see?

Chinks are Ebola, work it out for yourself. Unless you want to be relatively dead.

I rather thought it obvious from the outset, Chinks were the original vector of the pandemic and to court their return as tourists etc is foolish in the extreme, not least because they have no control over its spread and their capital city is infected.
