    Gov’t approves Travel Bubble concept

BANGKOK(NNT)-In addition to the announcement of Phase 4 restrictions being eased today, the government’s COVID-19 center has agreed on a resumption of international tourism within a
" travel bubble " with precautionary measures in place to prevent another viral outbreak.

The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration’s (CCSA) Spokesman, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin today revealed the government has approved in principle the reopening of the country to international visitors, but limited to those from countries where the outbreak is well controlled.

The concept of a limited reopening to countries within a "travel bubble" was proposed by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and will start with business persons and international patients seeking medical services by appointment in Thailand. Visitors must hold travel insurance, have tested negative for COVID-19 prior to travel, and be easily located by the authorities once in Thailand.

The Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, has ordered the establishment of sub-committees to consider other safety measures, to ensure Thai people will benefit from the reopening, and that there will not be another local outbreak.

    Visitors must hold travel insurance
I think this is going to be a must unless countries stop tourism until they have virtually zero cases.

I did a random scan of all the offers available to me locally, and surprisingly only one said they are not doing medical cover for Covid-19 until further notice.

The rest are offering $1,000,000 worth of cover for a 30 day trip for around $50.

I have sneaky feeling they have either hidden the appropriate caveats in the small print of their T&Cs or have simply not updated their websites.

I admit, I'm the guy who had no idea what a "travel bubble" was until this week.

For anyone else in the same boat, here's a definition I found:

"Travel bubbles, also called travel bridges or corona corridors, do away with that waiting period for a select group of travelers from certain countries where the coronavirus has been contained. “In a ‘travel bubble’ a set of countries agree to open their borders to each other, but keep borders to all other countries closed. So people can move freely within the bubble, but cannot enter from the outside,” says Per Block, an Oxford University researcher in social mobility and methodology. “The idea is to allow people additional freedom without causing additional harm.” Travel bubbles are an extension of one of Block’s research specialties —social bubbles, where people expand their quarantine zones to include more people they consider safe. Block is one of the authors of an Oxford study that suggests social bubbles could be an effective strategy to alleviating coronavirus isolation, although the findings have not yet been peer-reviewed."

Thailand may open but it will depend if the countries they "except" will allow tourists to come back without being quarantined. A thousand apologies Cyrille. I hope this helps expand your considerable english vocabulary.

Putting aside the elementary English error, the whole point is that Thailand is NOT generally 'open'.

It has agreed with several countries that have the virus relatively well controlled that air travel between those countries and Thailand will be allowed. Obviously this agreement includes the understanding that there will be no need for visitors to be quarantined in government facilities at either end of their journey.

Please do post again if there are any more points on this that you don't understand, however straightforward they may seem.

Thank you for the offer, but my toe jam has more intelligence than a loser who needs to go tefling in a country that no self respecting person with any intelligence, morality or self worth would ever contemplate working for.
