The Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has decided to shorten the night curfew by one hour, to 11pm until 3am effective June 1st.


General Somsak Rungsita, secretary-general of the National Security Council, said today that the CCSA found it necessary to retain a curfew to prevent people from social drinking, gambling and because alcohol sales are still banned in food outlets and restaurants.


He also said that the CCSA decided to ease inter-provincial travel restrictions, but has not yet decided to reopen beaches, except cultural, archaeological and heritage sites.


Shopping malls, he added, will be able to stay open until 9pm from Monday, but suggested that staying at home is the safest way to protect oneself against coronavirus.


Meanwhile, PM Office Minister Tewan Liptapallop will ask the Finance Ministry to set aside a budget for food subsidies, to be given to the country’s 250,000 monks, who are experiencing food shortages because the lockdown restrictions have prevented many of them from receiving alms from members of the public.

The question remains, with no reports of any significant indigenous contagion for over two weeks within the Kingdom, one wonders just why they have this stupid curfew and the prohibition on drinking any alcohol with one's meal in any restaurant.

Agreed, with no new outbreak and a blinding overall result compared with far more advanced countries, there's still the matter of control to address, to let the people know that their glorious leaders are still on the case, the experts are hard at it with educated guesswork, and leaving them uncertain how the next impulse diktat might affect their lives and livelihoods.

Tbf, I think Thailand's done well so far in regard to the virus, despite it's leaders, but not so sure that the economy couldn't have been handled a bit better. Still, money is money regardless how you get it, so let's not get started on how much who managed to squeeze out of the several emergency funds, packages, and stimuli.

The more up-scale hotels were all planning re-opening on 1 June but given this moronic prohibition on alcohol they may well have a re-think - hotels at this end depend on their food and beverage margins to bolster profits and if punters cannot have a cold beer by the pool or a glass of wine with their 2000 baht meal then most will simply say 'fuck it' and not bother.

You obviously missed it, immigration solved the lack of tourists by insisting that everyone entering the Kingdom must have $100k insurance that covers CV19. If that doesn't have them rioting to enter I don't know what will.
