Summer storms to affect most parts of Thailand today and tomorrow

Thailand’s Meteorological Department has warned people in most parts of the country to brace for summer storms, bringing with them strong winds, lightning and isolated hail, today and tomorrow.

The summer storms are caused by the convergence of a strong cold front from China and the hot weather over northern Thailand.

Meanwhile, the easterly wind over the Gulf of Thailand and the southern region has been gaining strength and will cause isolated heavy rain and thunder storms in the region, as well as choppy seas in the Gulf from Surat Thani province south.

In the northern region, provinces affected by the summer storms are likely to be Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Phrae, Nan Uttradit, Phitsanuloke Sukhothai, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit and Phetchabun.

Northeastern provinces to be affected are Loei, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Kalasin and Nakhon Ratchasima.

In the central region, Nakhon Sawan,, Lop Buri, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Kanchanaburi, Suphan Buri and Ratchaburi are forecast get the storms.

The Eastern provinces of Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat, and southern provinces of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat will also be affected.

Just pissed it down in Pattaya with rain coming down at 45 degrees with extremely strong winds.

Looks like a second round coming in from the east as well.

Sakon Nakhon is missing out too. Big thunderstorm drifted by last night but missed us. The temperature has dropped, thank goodness, but not much in the way of rain.

Pua in northern Nan province allegedly got more than 30mm last 24 hours. We are less than 5 kilometers from there and doubt we got more than 5mm. Same pattern as last year. I don't believe the gauge is accurate. We had rain reported there last year on several days while the sky was blue and cloudless.
