It reminds me a similar case - not to die at the hands of a local surgeon - when one of the previous Thai PM's Chatichai Choonhavan being seriously ill, so flying to London for his surgery he finally did not survive.

Paradoxically, in that time he was promoting very strongly a movement "Buy Thai". After his decease it was changed to " Die Thai"...
