First Thai-made coronavirus test kits delivered

The first coronavirus test kits made in Thailand are on their way to laboratories around the country after being delivered to Government House on Thursday (April 16).

Developed by Siam Bioscience and the Department of Medical Science, the RT-PCR virus test kits meet World Health Organisation standards and will go straight into battle against the nationwide pandemic.

Siam Bioscience International was established in 2009 under the guidance of His Majesty King Rama IX the Great to improve the health of Thais. After the Covd-19 outbreak, the company decided to adapt parts of its factory for the urgent production of RT-PCR kits. It has now delivered the first shipment of 20,000 test kits, out of a total 100,000, to send to medical laboratories across the country for speedier detection of the virus so that patients can be quarantined to reduce the spread of infection.

"The production of this virus test kit embodies our aim of ensuring good health for Thais and answering the nation’s needs through the dedication and collaboration of our staff, including executives, researchers, and work teams,” said Nualphan Lamsam, Siam Bioscience’s corporate communications director. “We are proud to add a spark of hope in efforts to control this epidemic.”

Men Arrested In Bangkok For Selling Over 45,000 Fake COVID-19 Test Kits

Fake test kits found in Bangkok

It’s not just COVID-19 itself that we should be cautious of, but also of those who take advantage of innocent people during this harsh period of time.
On 8th April 2020, Police Lieutenant General Permpun Chitchob, the Assistant Commissioner–General reported a case of fake COVID-19 test kits, masks, and thermometers being sold. The case was handled along with officials from the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD) and officials from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The men were later identified as Chen Lei and Wein Pinpin, 2 Chinese nationals who were arrested inside their residence in Bangkok for smuggling fake COVID-19 test kits into Thailand.
The captured evidence includes over 45,000 fake COVID-19 test kits, 1,200 infrared thermometers, and 350,000 face masks. These items were sold without permission at higher prices in Bangkok and nearby districts, and they were valued at over ฿33m.

    Kits would always test ‘negative’

The worst part is that anyone getting checked for COVID-19 with these test kits would receive a negative result. Realising that they “don’t” have the virus, these people could then unknowingly spread the virus to others.

The Food and Drug Administration is now working on finding out where these fake items were made and who was involved in bringing them into Thailand.
Even if you’ve been tested negative for the virus, it’s best to stay indoors and monitor yourself for now – no matter what your test results say. This is to ensure everyone’s safety.
If you want to get checked but aren’t sure where to go, here are a list of reputable hospitals that are offering tests:

Lock them up and throw away the key. They could have led to infected people thinking they are in the clear and running around spreading the bug everywhere.

Attempted murder would be a satisfactory charge.

The problem is not necessarily one of competence but of credibility. Endemic corruption, nepotism and cronyism do not engender much faith in a country claiming an expertise that goes to the heart of public health.

So much entrepreneurial spirit in Thailand. "Higher prices in Bangkok and nearby districts", a unique sales ploy?.

The boys in brown unsatisfied with their envelope's contents.

To some it is a new phenomenon.

I'd imagine they were smuggled in from China?

Chinkies bringing their chinky shit into Thailand.

If they knew what they were doing, yes.

If they didn't, then a sound thrashing to within 2.54 cm of their lives should suffice.
