Covid-19 outbreak dents wealth of many Thai tycoons

Thailand’s export-and-tourism-dependent economy, already weakened by the US-China trade war, was dealt a further blow by the Covid-19 outbreak.

The nation’s 50 richest on the 2020 Forbes Thailand Rich List saw $28 billion erased from their combined wealth, which declined 18 per cent to US$132 billion.

The list is available at Thailand’s 50 Richest 2020: Fortunes Decline $28 Billion Amid Covid-19 Pandemic and

    Thailand Richest - Forbes Thailand

as well as in the April issues of Forbes Asia and Forbes Thailand.

I don't believe that for a minute, anyone smart enough to become a billionaire would have bailed out of the negatively affected markets once it was clear where they were heading, and then either held cash until the dust settles or from that position of strength played into the main rallies.

^ Don’t know about that. Lots of people missed what was about to happen. Even Trump, so I read, has lost 1/3 of his wealth and he had forewarning!

Unverified, but one commentator said that part of the main stimulus package includes an item injected by the House to ensure that no Trump business could benefit from it.

I wanna see some of these lovely folks (not Mrs Boo) catch the virus and errm, use your own imagination from there on in; I mean, imagine some Thai tycoon with previous health conditions getting the virus - Merry Xmas, Happy Birthday and have a Happy New Year!

That doesn't include tax breaks. Just direct aid via loans. From that CNN article I linked:

Senate Democrats have pointed out that the stimulus package bars The Trump Organization, which owns stakes in several hotels, golf courses and resorts, from receiving any direct aid via loans.
