Upper Thailand urged to brace for summer thunderstorms

Upper Thailand could be hit by thunderstorms, the Thailand Meteorological Department warned on Tuesday (March 31).

In addition, the southerly and the southeasterly winds blow in with humidity from the South China Sea to the Northeast, the East, the Central and the lower North regions where hot to very hot conditions prevail.

Summer storms have been forecast for upper Thailand with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. Hail is possible in some areas of the North, the Northeast, the East and the Central regions.

People in upper Thailand have been advised to avoid unsecure outdoor places and large trees. Farmers should beware of damage to crops.

The following provinces could be affected on April 1-2:

Northeast: Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Kalasin, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani.

East: Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.On April 3-4:

North: Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, Sukhothai, Phichit, Kamphaeng Phet, Phetchabun and Tak.

Northeast: Loei, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Kalasin, Maha Sarakham, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram and Surin.

East: Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.

Central: Nakhon Sawan, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Chai Nat, Ang Thong, Sing Buri and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya.

The warning is in effect from March 31, 5am. The next weather advisory will be at 5pm.

    He's not entirely mistaken......

The virus, like all of their ilk, do relish a colder, dry environment in which the aerosols and droplets can flourish once discharged from the infected's lungs and nose. An environment that is that much higher in humidity fucks them up and shortens their ability to survive.

The sweatier it becomes and with this current heat wave one hopes the ability to transmit is reduced.

I'm dreading the time when some fascist thinks its time to ban all alcohol.

Bring it on! after the storm we got last week (West off Udon Thani) there are few trees left that can be blown over as the last storm got them all. Rain would be good to clean the filthy air. Been hot the last few days conditions should be good for a storm or two.

^ Yep, looking forward to some heavy rain and cooler nights. My digital thermometer has been sounding the fever alarm before I get it into my mouth the past couple of afternoons.

After that OP I checked the forecast for Chiang Mai.

No mention of anything but sunshine and sweltering heat for the entire 7 days.

A few drops last night for only a few minutes, but not enough to fill a glass or even completely wet the road.

Breezy here today and a little cooler, no rain TMD is obviously playing CYA, probably a <5% chance of getting any rain.
Best weather forecast by far is Windy: Wind map & weather forecast adjust for your region, they use about the best "modelling" available.

In my laic idea it is the dry weather currently in Thailand that restrains the virus life and its spread up ...

It's a pretty accurate site, if you have an airport close by, click on the favourite bottom right, then you will be able to read an hourly updated weather report from the the airport.
"Rainviewer.com" is a good real time app for phone, as can see if the rain will be coming your way or not!

We had thunderstorms around us last night but no rain. This morning we took MIL to doctors for her check-up and it was raining as we left the village. On the way back we saw a nice cut-off at the village boundary. Dratt and double dratt.

TMD radar showed thunderstorms south of Mukdahan and coming in from NE towards Nakon Phanom. Coverage should be more over the weekend.

A heavy rain shower today with plenty of thunder and lightning. We could have done with more rain.
It has cooled things off just a little. The last few days have been really hot.

With the thunderstorms my concern is always for the electricity. It's too hot right now to lose power for long

We have lost power twice in the last week - all afternoon each time.
Due to work being done somewhere in the vicinity as opposed to thunder storms

Currently, from the direction of Nong Ki / Korat, we're getting the sound of thunder. Hopefully the rains will come with it?

There's a nice big storm on TMD due east of Nakhon Phanhom. It is just entering Laos from Vietnam. Hope we only get the top edge of it. I expect a weather warning for Mukdahan soon.

Just very hot and very smokey in the upper Nan River valley. Some weather models showing the possibility of a storm in the next several days but none align with TMD forecasts. Historically this is the hottest week here.
