Air Force dispatches helicopters to spray water to alleviate PM 2.5 problem

BANGKOK (NNT) - The level of particulate matter of 2.5 microns or less (PM2.5) in the northern region is still high and is affecting the health of residents. The smoke and haze is due to forest burning both in Thailand and neighboring countries. The Prime Minister has ordered the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) to dispatch helicopters to spray water to reduce the impact.

Government Spokesperson Narumon Pinyosinwat disclosed today that Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha had been informed of the rising level of PM 2.5 in 17 northern provinces of Thailand. Yesterday, the volume of PM 2.5 reached a level that affected health in many areas. Many hot spots have been found in the northern provinces, along the Thai-Myanmar border area and in neighboring countries as a result of forest burning both in Thailand and in neighboring countries.

The level of PM 2.5 in the North today is likely to go up due to still air. The Prime Minister has ordered all agencies to control and extinguish the forest fires and strictly prevent new fires in forest areas so as to urgently reduce the haze level. He has ordered the RTAF to use helicopters to spray water to reduce dust in the air in the North.

The Prime Minister has ordered relevant agencies to implement public health care measures such as arranging safety zones and dispatching mobile medical units to serve the public until the situation can be improved.

why not use those same helicopters to determine which parcels of land are burning, and then jail the owner....and then fine this shit out of him/her.

The air here in Chiang Kong, Wiang Kaen, Chiang Rai, is unbelievable.
I can see maybe 100 meters from my windows.
It stinks and ones mouth feels consistently dirty.
Clean your teeth and 10 minutes later you want to clean again.
I'm staying indoors and using the the A/C t hopefully clear some of the shit.
Total drought, having to buy water 300Thb for 6000 liters. Not drinking water. Not a lot but it needs to be shared.
I don't know how many helicopters they've got but it's hard to believe they're enough.

Fires still burning in the hills. Thailand, not neighbors.

^^^ Agree, they could do that for fields, they can't do that for forest fires though, if they wanted to tackle that they could ban the mushrooms at least for export.

Just went back from Makro Maé Rim, I saw a fire truck spraying water in the air at a crossroads...not convinced but authorities have to show they're doing something regardless of the efficiency of their measures I guess....

Need to put an end to the traditional slash and burn techniques as a lifestyle - permanently.
A good percentage, of which, are the cause of most wild fires.....cycling around and spreading year in and year out.

^ I think up north most forest fires aren't accidents, rather started on purpose to trigger mushrooms sprouts, some use devices delaying the fire start by hours to avoid being suspected.

Wouldn't it be better to have those helicopters drop the water on the fires that are causing the pollution? Spraying water randomly over the city might clear the air for a hour or so, but stopping the pollution at its source would be more effective.

Decimation, shooting one in ten, and then hanging their corpses from the trees for the birds to peck at is the way to go for these rural savages.

    Anything less is futile.
