You'd have to drive to a different part of Sydney to see these things . . . sorry, but - horrid.

Ant, what was the car you did burns on the lake in your youff - wasn't that a Holden of sorts?

Just saw that GM is slashing prices on all trucks and SUV's here in Thailand. Some by as much as 40% for a Captiva. Not a bad deal really. I wouldn't have any issue picking one up if I was in the market. The trucks prices have also been reduced but not enough for me to think about buying one as a beater. Take off the bed and make it a flat bed.

Anyway I had a suspicion GM was going to leave here as I follow a lot of GM stuff . I also think Ford is looking as well. The Raptor is a nice truck but a bit pricey and the margins just are not there. The Everest has had good sales but I think with GM leaving people will think the same on Ford. This is why as much as I have always raced and liked Chevrolet, I went with Toyota Hilux here.

^Are GM legally obliged to continue providing spares and service after pulling out from the manufacturing?

Chevrolet thailand have said they hope to be able to confirm that their dealerships will continue to service and repair cars for another 5 to10 years. A pundit on the thai business news last night mentioned possible discounts of up to 40% in order to sell off remaining chevvy stock.

My friend had a turbo charged EH in the late 80s/ early 90s. He was driving it at 130mph the day he took me for a spin. That car was mad.

    Holden's much-loved EH

Doh! why are my pics so small!

I always liked the VL Commodores with the turbo Nissan RB in them, they went pretty hard.

Discounts you say? This just popped up on social media advertising. Pretty steep discount.

I wouldn't dream of buying a Chevrolet in Thailand although at half price one could be tempted (it'd still be a mistake, imho); terrible cars.

That 40% discount makes it approx. B100,000 cheaper than the full-priced version in Aust / NZ.

So that's a yeah nah from me also.

Yes. Worked for subsidary of GM in Asia for 25 years. Was the MD of dealership training thoughout many countries in the region including Holden.

Models produced in Rayong, rebadged for market. Chevrolet and Holden.

Chevrolet Colorado (International markets) and Holden Colorado (Australia and New Zealand)
Chevrolet Trailblazer (International markets) and Holden Trailblazer, previously known as Holden Colorado 7 (Australia and New Zealand)
    Chevrolet Captiva (first-generation, three-row version)
    Chevrolet Cruze (first generation)

Note, Captiva and Cruze are Opel designs.

    Confused?

Hillbilly bought that Captiva about 5 years ago. Had nothing but trouble and I believe is still suing them right now.. Not a happy camper at all.

The engine swap was more than just engine mounts... steering column had to be moved as well.

The only, and I mean only car/wagon that is half decent is the Colorado. Good dependable vehicle. The rest is complete and utter dog shite IMO.

I never did it myself - but was always amazed that a V8 would fit in such a small car. Think I remember somebody saying that the firewall had to cut out too? The XU-1s used to fly as it was with triple webber carbs on a 186 6 cylinder engine.

Motorsport: Supercars boss drags racing fans into Holden storm - NZ Herald

Red Bull Holden Racing Team owner Roland Dane says fans are partly to blame for the demise of Holden [...] "Unfortunately, one of the issues is, an awful lot of the people that have been barracking for the Holden brand over the last 10 years or so haven't actually been buying the product," Dane said.

"For whatever reason. It's a fact of life that people have been turning up to watch the races in other brands and one we're all very aware of.

"Times change and we've got to change with them."
He is partly right: for a long time now the 'Win On Sunday Sell On Monday' thing has been dead and fans have been turning up to support either their Ford or Holden favorites and then driving home in their Toyota's etc.

But where he goes off the track -- pun intended -- is that Supercars are partly to blame for that as well.

Ever since they brought in that homologation crap they have basically been the same chassis / platform racing with different shells. Holden or Ford in name only so why would you watch them win on Sunday and then on Monday go to the showroom to buy a car that bares zero relation to the one you saw.

Are all these collector car going to get converted to electwick once petrol is phased out? or are there going to be special stations where you will see classic cars queued up to get their fix. Could become something akin to trainspotting.

Nah no need to cut firewall, thats a no no in Aus, Brake booster and steering was the issue so those got moved over about an inch.

In 5 years time the political and ecological landscape will be such that anyone using one of these polluting behemoths on the public roads will be seen in much the same way as homophobics and racists are seen today and slowly but surely pilloried out of existence.

Can you give the benefit of your experience: how does that feel? *Boom tish!*

Anyways if you think that's going to occur in the next five years (or petrol disappear within our lifetimes) you are dreaming.

I saw a chart somewhere once that attempted to outline all the relationships between manufactures, brands, and whatnot.

    It was very fucking complicated.
