So pretty much all RHD production then.

Holden Commodore is now an Opel. Made by the froggie company PSA. It's a piece of shite. Very rare to see one on the roads here.

Nope though they have long time been different brands under the same umbrella.

There was the odd cross-over and re-badge going on back in the day but for the most part seperate makes and models.

If it’s anything like Aust / NZ then they’re obliged to provide parts, service, and warranty care for another 10 years

Yes it was and a Commodore Coupe -68 was my first car in the mid 70's.
Kapitän, Admiral, Commodore are Opel models from that time.

I have both a Cruze and a Captiva ... both models on sale in the USA.

Parts will be available for 10 years +

Opel is a big fooking joke here in Europe,

Meh, they aren't the first Auto maker to pull up stumps and leave Aus and won't be the last.

Aus Gumbyment should ask for the handouts back though..... From all the auto makers over the years that put their hand out.

GM's retreat from ANZ is pretty much non-news. Their erstwhile factories are long gone, and forgotten. Strangely, the once iconic Holden brand has enjoyed a resurgence among collectors and nostalgic types. Quite a few of them fetch more now than they ever did new.

Much bigger news, of course, is the Thai retreat. So Great Wall buys up the assets on the cheap- I suppose even that comes as no surprise. I wouldn't be surprised if they, or one of their big Chinese competitors, buy out the Holden brand name from GM. It would be quite a canny marketing move imo, although in reality it is nothing more than a badge.

The Chinese bought the MG badge, and by the looks of it, they seem to be doing ok.

Some of the muscle cars from yesteryear fetch mind blowing amounts - hundreds of thousands of $.

Some great cars were made in Oz during the 60s, 70s and 80s. Many of them worthy of exporting, but that never happened, which has eventually been their downfall.

It would have been nice if Australia had tried to be a world leader in the production of electric cars instead of closing down our factories a few years back.

RIP to the Australian car industry. Well and truly dead and buried now..

R/T E49 Charger - $300,000+

The list goes on. Even a decent replica of any of the above couldn't be had for less than $50,000+ these days, more like $80,000+ for most.

So it does make to laugh to read some of the *ahem* less informed comments from certain posters on here at times... No names.
