Teen Showing-off with Homemade Gun Accidentally Kills Friend

A 17-year-old boy has been accidentally shot and killed by a friend with a homemade hand gun in northeastern Thailand. His teenage friend was showing off with the home-made gun to a group of friends early on Wednesday morning.

The shooting was reported about 4.20am and occurred in a rented room in Kanchanaburi, Pol Lt Col Arkom Chomsri said. Police and a doctor rushed to the scene and found Tarin Pinroj, 17, dead in a pool of blood on the room floor.

Pol Lt Col Arkom said he was shot in the left cheek and the bullet went straight through his head.

Nathapas Kumkrong, 18, told police he was playing video games in the room with Tarin.

They were joined by four other boys who arrived on two motorcycles, Thai media reported.

One of the newcomers, a 17-year-old, produced a home-made gun and was showing it to the other boys. The gun went off and the bullet hit Tarin in the face. The four other youths fled on their motorcycles, he said.

Police Chief Pol Col Puwadit Kongphet, said the parents of the youth with the gun were contacted and asked bring their son to the police station.

The 17-year-old surrendered to police at 6.45am. He admitted to firing the shot that killed Tarin and said it was an accident. He had afterwards thrown the gun into the water under a bridge near Wat Thewasangkharam.

Kanchanaburi is in northeastern Thailand now? FFS. Who writes this crap? Have they outsourced the writing and copy editing to space cadets now?

Who doesn't have a 17 year old playing computer games with their gun-toting mates at 4:20am on a Wednesday.

Reflective of today's universal journalistic practices.

    The usual exceptional Thai parenting.

Gee-wiz Nev, you mean I could get a job in the land of smiles. I know a little geography and I'm good with polls . Really, there is a north and a south one.

A fine incident that is a splendid illustration of just how utterly feckless and reckless this dreadful society truly is.

Indeed, as Luigi has already mentioned, who here hasn't spent the night of a school week as an adolescent trundling about the town on motor bikes at 0430 hours to spend the wee hours playing video games in a rented dive in the company of your peers one of whom disports a handgun loaded with ammunition.

I mean, c'mon, that's just so average. I would have done the same but would have had a team of hookers taking turns blowing dope shotgun blasts into my lungs while playing the old pink oboe watching 8mm porn on the wall.

    These country hicks, eh?

I was making explosives at age 18, with my mate up the road. We fancied ourselves as budding chemists and he almost blew his hand off. No injury....it just went off really soon after leaving his hand. You could buy whatever chemicals you liked, back in 1973.

Yeah, it's dumb. But, I agree with Latindancer, as 17 year olds, we also did a lot of dumb and dangerous stuff that on a bad day could have ended up accidentally hurting ourselves or other folks.

This kid might have been a smacked up little bastard ready for a life of crime, or he may have been a really nice kid who worked hard at school and was destined to get an education and do well for himself. We simply do not know. 17 year olds all over the world are playing computer games with their mates at 4am and acting stupidly (with drugs, guns, girls, homemade pizza...).

We do know 2 things: 1) The geography is off; 2) Mr Sausage had a very boring childhood...

Parsumably, you didn't escape the bad day and fell on your pointy head.

    Har, har.

Incidentally, at their age I was blowing ganja and catching ping pong balls pussy shot by Chinese hookers.

Your days bunking off from St. Normal's chartered accountancy lessons must have been a real adrenaline rush.

Who picked the most fluff off their scarves?

What did that Mike Oldfield LP really say when played backwards?

Really enjoyed "metalwork" at school, as we were actively engaged in the production of knives and other clandestine weapons. I remember being proud of a kung-fu "throwing star" that I'd made at the time, until a dog ran off with it.. Well, it was in it's neck.

    Exactly. Poor dog...

Hey Cyrille, do you remember those big bins, the metal ones at school, the ones you used to be thrown into and the lid put on top while the rest of us kicked it and banged it for 15 minutes. You'd get out sobbing... I'm sorry, I was only a kid, I didn't mean to affect your entire life so negatively.

It reminds me of a school friend who made a gun in metalwork, well more of a handheld cannon. Anyway we tried it out on the rugby pitch one night...the projectile went out the back and straight through his upper arm. Luckily it missed bone and no serious injury....

UK had me walking around with a gun when I was 17...

All this talk of metalwork brought back memories. I wonder if they still get that as a school subject in the UK.

I think it's reserved for those who can't even count to ten using their digits and is optional at GCSE level although some form of Design & Technology is compulsory in the junior classes up to age 14. I think in practice that means cookery or computer stuff.
