Lawmakers in Thailand Remove Cannabis From Narcotics List

Thailand’s Public Health Ministry announced Tuesday that Cabinet has agreed to the removal of cannabis from the narcotic list. It was approved under ministerial regulation of the Public Health Ministry, Deputy Government Spokesperson Traisulee Traisaranakul, said.

The regulation also states that researches would conduct research on the effects of cannabis in medicines, cosmetics, and herbs in line with government’s policy. Above all to boost the country’s production competitiveness.

“Preliminary, this regulation allows the cultivation of cannabis plants by individuals and corporation. Subject to the conditions on trade and possession ” Traisulee told The Nation.

“The regulation also states that cannabis plants can be grown at the maximum of one Rai per household” she said. Adding that “Growers must be licensed, and grow only species specified in the new regulation”.
Thailand Creates Dr. Ganja Medical Cannabis App

Meanwhile, Thailand’s Health Ministry has introduced Dr. Ganja a green cuddly toy to help educate Thai about the benefits of medical cannabis. Dr. Ganja is the latest illustration of Thailand’s embrace of medical cannabis.

An industry poised to expand to more than $660 million by 2024 from an estimate of $300,000 last year. The biggest cheerleader of cannabis is Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

Amid that backdrop, the pro-marijuana deputy Minister wants to add cannabis plantations and processing facilities. As well as scale up local hospitals to become champions of medical cannabis. This is a crop that some in Thailand have never seen, let alone sought to grow.

“People here have ganja fever,” said Thanaporn Pornsangakul, a scientist at Pela Plern Herbal Development Center. Its responsible for growing and supplying medical marijuana plants to Buriram’s only internationally accredited hospital. “There are so many who are interested in growing.”

The Thai government had invested 100 million baht ($3.3 million) in the first indoor growing facility. It opened last year, as well as 12,000 cannabis plant seedlings, marijuana market researchers Prohibition Partners said. Its plan to prepare one million bottles of cannabis oil by February 2020 “shows ambition” on the part of the Thai government, the company added.

“Thailand has shown itself to be a leader of legislative drug reform among Asian nations.

Especially in relation to medical cannabis,” according to Prohibition Partners’ Head of Consultancy Barbara Pastori. “This is likely to be the case with recreational cannabis also, particularly if there remains strong political will to do so.”

It'll replace Yaba as the drug of choice in the future.
Might even make Thailand an attractive tourist destination again once the Coronavirus/Chinese and strong baht have disappeared.

Different highs, but ye possibly now the Ya heads will change to the green, so much nicer smoking than drinking. Surprised the brewery companies have let it happen unless they have been given the licenses to grow.

Good place to grow as well and the tourist market for the product would be very profitable. The oils alone can bring big profits.

Plant it and find out how legal it is. The law you are speaking of has not even been debated yet. The Thai's dont have a clue when it comes to legalizing weed. Done no due diligence at all.

Anyone down loaded the app yet?????

A smartphone app promoting a new government cannabis clinic came under fire yesterday for being just a little racist.
To make an appointment at the Public Health Ministry’s medical cannabis clinic using its new “Dr. Ganja” app, users had to choose a nationality from a menu that included bizarre descriptions of Chinese nationals as “former Chinese Communists” and ethnic Karen people as “immigrant fugitives.”
“Patients registering on the Dr. Ganja in TTM app operated by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health will face with these creepy racist questions. Can’t believe this is from Government Agency not the KKK,” wrote Facebook user Kannikar Petchkaew, who called out the entries Wednesday.
For some reason, users who identify as Chinese, Malaysian or Singaporean had to choose an entry with a bracketed note reading, “former Chinese Communists.” The entries for Cambodian, Vietnamese, Mon and Karen people were noted as “immigrant fugitives.”

Marut Jirasetsiri, director of the Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine Department, apologized for the incident. He said his team didn’t really bother to take a close look at it before it went out.
As of Thursday morning the offending text appeared to have been removed, but the only nationality or ethnicity available to select now is “Thai.”

The Dr. Ganja in TTM application is meant to facilitate registering for services at a new cannabis clinic opening at the Public Health Department in Nonthaburi province.

I'm sure dual pricing will be a big factor there.

This is a common mistake right there.

Just because Mull has been made legal in some kuntries it does not mean punters go balls deep into it.

When it comes to drugs people prefer their own poison.

If it's legal or not matters not one fuk. Ya-Ba freaks will go on the mull just because it's legal.

Same as Dill the alcoholic will not get on the mull just because it is legal.

From the few examples of alcohol or drug (Ya baa) users I've seen, Weed won't have so much success with the locals, they don't like a drug that makes you sleepy... They're looking for something that gives you energy, confidence. That explains the "success" of Ya Baa, along with its availability and price of course.

Home growing of 5/6 plants, for home consumption only was the project, and it concerns the medicinal variety, low-THC content. Still a project apparently.

Coming back from the mountains, I advised the nephew and other family members to look into it, plan to get license for medical stuff, develop the skills to grow it and on the side grow some real things for me to test , thus they would be ready if legalization occurs.
Many farmers there tend to grow a few plants, apparently to be used in soups (no effects). The smokers tend to use leaves and even branches, they were happy to share but the lack of effect made me say no/give back the stuff after the first try. They lack basic knowledge on the stuff but it can be improved.

BTW I know there are a few users here, just a heads up, the quality seems back to normal since about a month in CM (at least from my usual source).

I sampled the local stuff a number of times whilst in Thailand years ago, but it didn't ever give me that "feel good" high which I often (but not always) got from Oz-grown varieties. Perhaps the variety has too much Indica and not enough Sativa ?

Pretty much over it all now anyway....at 64, it knocks me around for too long afterwards.

To grow the good gear ya need to have top wack seeds.

Start importing decent seeds from Holland and it will be game on.

Most of the up cuntry farmers know fook all about quality mull, anything will do just to give them a break from the mind numbing boredom of living up Norf.
