Registration of electric vehicles rose by 380 per cent

There has been a sharp increase in the number of electric vehicles registered in 2019, according to the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT).

According to the statistics of the Department of Land Transport, as of December 31, 2019 there were 2,854 electric vehicles (EV) registrations, including 1,572 new cars, up 380 per cent over 2018 when only 325 vehicles were registered.

Meanwhile, hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) reached a total of 153,184 vehicles.

“The growth rate of PHEV and EV is up more than 51 per cent from a year earlier,” Yossapong Laoonual, EVAT president, said. “The increase in electric vehicle registration will have an effect shortly as the need for charging stations will increase as well. Therefore, this year may see full model commercial charging stations, with the private sector playing an increasingly important role.”

The EVAT has the policy to promote and support the exchange of academic knowledge about technology and innovation for all types of electric vehicles including regulatory, standards and operations consultation in the development of electric vehicle technology in Thailand.

There are more than 200 members from the private sector, educational institutions, state enterprises and individuals.

A friend of mine has an electric car here in Japan.

With new fast charging batteries these vehicles are a game changer.

It fully charges in less than 30 minutes, which gives you 300km of driving.

There are free charging stations where you can stop and plug in for just 5 or 10 minutes which will give you enough charge to drive for an hour or 2 - until you get home and plug it in for 30 mins for your full charge.

    The future is here!

Just yesterday I was trying to find all electric auto sales in Thailand. The hybrids are all around but so far the only total electric vehicles I’ve seen are for farm use.

Who sells the total electric autos mentioned in the OP?

Most makers produce them now, at some level.

Suburu announced last week that they will only sell Hybrib and electric cars before too long.

Volkswagon announced something similar a year or so ago.

The one that piqued my interest recently, which we won't get here, is the Renault Clio hybrid.

-No clutch - iIt always pulls away in electric mode.
-F1 type dog clutch gear box for instant changes.
    -No reverse- Reverse is electric
-No engine accesory belts- Water pump, AC, etc are electric
-"Low tech" ICE designed to run at optimum conditions to either power vehicle (motorway) or charge battery.
-0-60mph in 6.9 sec ( Good enough for me)
    - Cheaper than a conventional diesel.

    But not here
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

My experience of hybrids (Toyota Camry for about 5yrs and 50,000 or so km) is they are a bit shit.

Increasingly becoming an over-weight and under-powered brick as the battery degrades.

I stii doubt that e-cars are that eco-friendly (mostly deporting the pollution at the construction and disposal stages), the level of complexity of full electric and hybrid cars makes them difficult to fix when an issue occurs as few repair shops have the skills to do it.

I'm not an expert on cars, but a guy on YouTube seems knowledgeable enough (50+ years fixing cars, independent) and his take on eCars is that they're good enough for city driving, few kilometers a days but as they age they're becoming a money pit...-> Scotty kilmer
