I was taking a look at the UK annual flu reports over the last few years. Nearly 70% of infections occur in care centres and another 15% occur in hospitals. It would be interesting to know if this is similar for the current outbreak. It would also be interesting to know what public reaction would be if they were given infections on a daily basis throughout the average flu season.

This outbreak is severe and could kill up to 6% of the population. However, the hysteria and subsequent shutdowns will affect 100% of the population and it's possible that a depression that could see 50% or more out of work.

Which is worse Betty? This isn't killing in the numbers that support the Draconian methods to contain it. It is chopping off your head to save your foot.

There's simply no way that so many high profile people could be infected if that was anywhere near the real number.

Is this why you flew off to Thailand?
Now you feel safe? A few days ago you sounded different.

Anyone who compares this to the flu is either a TOTAL idiot or has not comprehended the situation yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way Troy, what makes you so certain that Thailand will not throw you out of the country in a few weeks?
It was irresponsible of them of letting you in. They should have put you away at LEAST 15 days.

    Indeed, a good move.

But, imagine some old fella/lady living alone who feels ill, has seen the Covid-19 reports and is worried so pops to the hospital. I wouldn't consider him/her a hypochondriac or a person lacking common sense; there's some harsh discourse going around this thread rather lacking in empathy.

Michel Barnier an actor looking for a movie role? Now I'am even more confused.

Anyway, Tom Hanks would definitely not need that.

Lets be fair BB, There is no cure. Its has been announced endlessly. Staying put is best solution. So maybe feeling a bit sick or anxious and then rushing to the hospital is not using common sense. What will they do? Check you, maybe confirm you have it...or not. Add you to the growing numbers while that individual is now jeopardizing numerous others including medical professionals? Now if you are older and feeling quite ill, then by all means go as it could be their only chance to survive. Short of that simply stay home and ride it out.

Additionally, my daughter said the line to just enter then tent is long.

Well, a few weeks ago when I was mentioning 4% or 6%, a lot of you fellas were aggressively shouting the number down to 2% or 1%, so it seems you are gradually getting the message.

Still a lack of understanding in the reality of this unusual new virus: no government or health authority wants to harm the economy. The only reason they are ALL now taking these strong measures is because they know the economy, businesses and society generally will be damaged much more if these measures are not taken.

If no measures were taken, just let it 'run its course' then folks such as yourself would be travelling around airports, sending the kids to school, going to work and all with a care-free attitude; the discourse of masks are useless and I'm young enough that the virus won't affect me would dominate with the result that within 6-8 weeks healthcare services would be completely over-whelmed and countries would be forced into affecting martial law. Society is an integrated and complex organism, the type of binary, discrete observations/analysis that some folks offer is simply inadequate. Corvid-19 is here, it has been predicted for decades and foretold by SARS, MERS, etc, governments and bodies like the WHO have been planning for it for years, and they choose to take the actions we are seeing. You may know better...

Ex-California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger self-isolating in style as he enjoys jacuzzi and cigar amid coronavirus pandemic

    The COVID-2019 Thread-screenshot_2020-03-20-arnie-self-isolates

Arnold Schwarzenegger has proven that self-isolation amid the coronavirus pandemic definitely doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom as he treated himself to a jacuzzi.

Sharing a video on Twitter, the Terminator star looked to be in his element as he donned a cap and shades, clutching a cigar in one hand.

Chatting to the camera, 72-year-old Arnie said: ‘Yeah I’ve been home, taking jacuzzis, smoking a stogy, I just finished a bike ride and a bit of a workout, I just keep staying at home, away from the crowds and away from outside.

Some general figures showing mortality rates - of course, these are nothing more than indicative, it'll take years of analysis before the real rates are known, and they might go up or down...

^ That's the death rate of those who were diagnosed. The death rate percentage for all infected will be a hell of a lot smaller

No one knows what the real infection figures are. Even in South Korea, they've only tested 295,000 people out of a population of 55 million. That's only around 7 percent of the population. How many do you think have had it already?
Kids are hardly affected by it, some carriers are asymptomatic and some get it very mildly, some just getting a cough.

Those figures will definitely go down from what you've shown simply because...

    1-
As I've said, A lot more people have had it already, who haven't been to hospital or been diagnosed and have recovered. Those figures could be humungous.

2- The highest death rate at the top of your list...Italy....24% of their population is/was over 65

3- The second higest death rate on there is Iran, where they'll just shoot the ill.

Nah, it will peter out in a Month or so
