Looks like hoohoo just learned about "Efficacy".

Give it another year and he'll learn about "Delta" and "breakthrough infections".

We were preparing to go to Greece late August when the red listing occured, I contacted the Greek embassy in BKK and they told me that if I went there from Thailand I would have to quarantine for 14 days . So I monitor the situation and keep an eye on Pug's postings of the daily results at the "Covid" thread. and your posts in the quarantine thread to get sense where this covid situation in Thailand is heading. So far it looks good.

None of that makes any sense at all.

The EU put Thailand on its "red list" in the middle of July.

The UK has fuck all to do with the EU's decisions (it added Thailand on August 26th).

    The dates sound about right.
As I said we were planning to travel late August, but we did not started to look into it the night before we departed.
I don't know what date the UK added Thailand on the red list, nor do I care.

The fact of the matter was that at the time I was planning to travel to Greece (late august) Thailand was in the Red but has since then be removed by Greece. And now I monitor developments because it's not only going there but more importantly coming back. If The UK also lifts some restrictions it would be a welcome sign for me as it will signal that conditions in Thailand are improving.

I'm struggling to understand what the fuck you're on about. You said:

The UK adding Thailand to their Red List had no bearing on Greece/EU having added it in mid July.

If the UK hadn't added it, you still would have had to quarantine in Greece.

Which bit are you struggling with?

    Apparently not yet...

This week, the UK government divided the globe into red and non-red countries, meaning that travelling to the UK from much of the world - for those fully vaccinated - became much simpler. The Foreign Office's changes will make travel easier too.

All eyes are now on the red list, particularly on regions like South America and southern Africa which have had restrictions from early this year. The travel industry has been pushing to reduce the list as far as possible. Will the government slash it or be more cautious?

But the red list isn't the whole story for those hoping to travel to the UK.

There are still many countries the UK doesn't yet recognise vaccination certificates from and travellers have to be vaccinated with Pfizer, Moderna, Janssen or AstraZeneca or must self isolate on arrival. As many countries used other vaccines on their populations, there's a danger that access to the UK could become split.

    2px presentational grey line
Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said: "These rule tweaks will make travelling more straightforward, supporting businesses and families right across Britain - and allow more of us to see friends and loved ones with greater peace of mind.

"We're striking the right balance between keeping people safe which remains our priority and giving them the freedom to exercise personal responsibility, while supporting the travel sector as it continues to recover."

On Monday, the traffic light travel system was replaced by a single red list.

Red-list countries are those the UK government says should not be visited "except in the most extreme of circumstances".

Testing rules are also being eased for people travelling from non-red list destinations who have been vaccinated in the UK, the EU, the US, or any of 18 other recognised countries.

The full list of destinations for which the Foreign Office has eased its travel advice is: Algeria; Armenia; Bangladesh; Belarus; Benin; Comoros; Tokelau and Niue; Djibouti; Equatorial Guinea; Fiji; Gambia; Guinea; Kazakhstan; Kiribati; Kosovo; Liberia; Madagascar; Malaysia; Marshall Islands; Micronesia; Nauru; Sao Tome and Principe; Senegal; Solomon Islands; Togo; Tonga; Tuvalu; Vanuatu; Congo; America Samoa; French Polynesia; and Ghana.
    Shalom

Thailand Will move off the red list at 4am Monday 11 October. If you arrive in England before then, you need to follow the red list rules.

Inasmuch as Thai Astrazeneca and the chinky shit are not approved vaccines in the UK, no, that will not get you into the UK without quarantine.

But for vaccinated Brits who want to avail themselves of a Thailand trip from Blighty, it is good news, as it is for residents of Thailand who have had a couple of Pfizers and want to visit the motherland.

Philippines will also be removed from the UK red list too. That's good - it means that it's considered by other countries (UK) that conditions are getting better in PH. And yeah, I think it is. From 23k+ daily cases few weeks ago to 9k+ cases (for 2 straight days), that's a big improvement. We've also been getting more deliveries of vaccines the past few months. Accdg to our vaccine chief (Carlito Galvez), the govt intends the taeget population to be vaccinated before the elections in May next year. PH is still closed to tourists, but maybe it will open up by early next year.

Phu Quoc island in Vietnam intends to open up (sandbox scheme) by November (or Oct 15, I forgot - sorry).

But on the bright side, many of those infections are not hospitalising or killing people (the young), and they are building up natural immunity.

All of that, combined with vaccines, contributes to the virus running out of places to go.

A common perception is that England has navigated its way out of the pandemic more successfully than most through vaccination, or that, at the very least, other countries are in the same boat as us. Yet England has one of the highest burdens of Covid in Europe, measured by the weekly number of new cases per million people, exceeded only by the three Baltic states, Serbia and Romania. England’s case rates are eight to 10 times higher than some of the best performing countries, such as Spain and Portugal.
So much for the 'England's response to COVID better than that of the EU' BS

Remember they vaccinated high risk groups first and are now happy to let the virus run relatively free because it's usually harmless to the healthy and young.

The government chose to open up.

The other thing of course is all these antivax wankers. Let them die.

^ the UK has a different measure of recording COVID deaths as Switch said, if you tested positive for COVID, regardless of whether that was the cause of death it is recorded as a COVID death.

It's the anti British Guardian so take it with a pinch of salt.

At least the UK has full transparency.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say Boris Johnson is an absolute legend for his competence and public service over his trying time in office, worthy of a thread in his own right.

    I agree.
Unless someone was very ill, he would be a full to go and get tested, from fear that he would be sent to one of these covid detention places. I know if I felt ill I would go buy a rapid home test . Never mind all those who ae asymptomatic.
Is there anyone here who felt ill that would go get tested at a government facility?
The cases reported in Thailand is only the top of the iceberg.

An Australian investigative journalist Sharri Markson has written a book called Whatever happened in Wuhan. This is a doco about some of what is in her book. No doubt done partially to promote her book. But some intersting points made. Judge for yourself.
