About fucking time. It is staffed with idiots and is worse than OANN.

SYDNEY: YouTube said Sunday it had barred Sky News Australia from uploading new content for one week, citing concerns about Covid-19 misinformation.
The move comes after a review of posts uploaded by the Rupert Murdoch-owned TV channel, which has a substantial online presence.
"We have clear and established Covid-19 medical misinformation policies... to prevent the spread of Covid-19 misinformation that could cause real-world harm," a YouTube statement said.

From the New England Journal of Medicine:

Effectiveness of vaccination against symptomatic disease caused by the delta variant:

After 2 doses of AstraZeneca: 67%

After 2 doses of Pfizer: 88%
    _____________

    RESULTS

Effectiveness after one dose of vaccine (BNT162b2 or ChAdOx1 nCoV-19) was notably lower among persons with the delta variant (30.7%; 95% confidence interval [CI], 25.2 to 35.7) than among those with the alpha variant (48.7%; 95% CI, 45.5 to 51.7); the results were similar for both vaccines. With the BNT162b2 vaccine, the effectiveness of two doses was 93.7% (95% CI, 91.6 to 95.3) among persons with the alpha variant and 88.0% (95% CI, 85.3 to 90.1) among those with the delta variant. With the ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccine, the effectiveness of two doses was 74.5% (95% CI, 68.4 to 79.4) among persons with the alpha variant and 67.0% (95% CI, 61.3 to 71.8) among those with the delta variant.

That's from the states where high-quality vaccines are doing very well at teaching the body how to respond to the virus.

By the way, the CDC now only monitors and counts breakthrough hospitalization and deaths — not mere infections.

more info: COVID-19 Vaccine Breakthrough Cases: Data from the States | KFF

About 99.999% of fully vaccinated Americans have not had a deadly Covid-19 breakthrough case, CDC data shows - CNN

The CDC reported 6,587 Covid-19 breakthrough cases as of July 26, including 6,239 hospitalizations and 1,263 deaths. At that time, more than 163 million people in the United States were fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Divide those severe breakthrough cases by the total fully vaccinated population for the result: less than 0.004% of fully vaccinated people had a breakthrough case that led to hospitalization and less than 0.001% of fully vaccinated people died from a breakthrough Covid-19 case.

The Philippines received over 400,000 AstraZeneca doses from the British government on Monday, August 2, as local governments seek to ramp up vaccination efforts in a bid to curb the spread of the highly-transmissible Delta variant.

The shipment of 415,040 AstraZeneca shots arrived in the Philippines less than a week after the United Kingdom announced it would donate vaccines to the country. The delivery landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport shortly before 5 pm on Monday and was welcomed by vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr., along with outgoing British Ambassador to the Philippines Daniel Pruce and other officials.

Florida breaks record for COVID-19 hospitalizations

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A day after it recorded the most new daily cases since the start of the pandemic, Florida on Sunday broke a previous record for current hospitalizations set more than a year ago before vaccines were available.

The Sunshine State had 10,207 people hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19 cases, according to data reported to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

The previous record was from July 23, 2020, more than a half-year before vaccinations started becoming widespread, when Florida had 10,170 hospitalizations, according to the Florida Hospital Association.

Florida is now leading the nation in per capita hospitalizations for COVID-19, as hospitals around the state report having to put emergency room visitors in beds in hallways and others document a noticeable drop in the age of patients.

Another record day for Chonburi yesterday, 1359 new cases including 314 in Pattaya. There's usually a correlation between Chonburi's numbers and that of the country as a whole so expect a significant rise again today.

CGTN Think Tank conducts another global online survey

    Updated 21:28, 02-Aug-2021

    "
"Do you think the WHO should investigate the U.S. as part of the origin-tracing study of COVID-19?"
About 83 percent of social media users who participated in the vote answered in Chinese, English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian:

"Yes, there should be an investigation into the U.S."

CGTN Think Tank conducted a global online survey, available in six UN official languages, on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, VK, Weibo and WeChat, on July 30.

Before casting their votes, the poll respondents were given the following pieces of information.

Starting in July, 2019, a respiratory disease of unknown origin was discovered in Virginia and an "e-cigarette pneumonia" broke out in Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, the Fort Detrick bio-lab was suddenly closed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.

Among the archived samples of routine blood donations in nine states in the United States from December, 2019 to January, 2020, 106 of them tested positive for COVID antibodies.

A total of 83.1 percent of participants in the survey were in favor of a WHO investigation into the U.S.

A total of 86.4 percent of respondents who answered in Russian on Twitter backed an investigation on origin-tracing of COVID-19 in the U.S., while on YouTube, 88 percent of respondents in French supported an investigation. Weibo users were undoubtedly the group with the strongest reaction – 96.5 percent of respondents called for an investigation.

Here are some of the comments which were left:

"Yes, Yes, Yes and this is what world citizens are asking. WHO should not be seen as double standard because you are representing the world not just US," one comment in English read.

"Absolutely YES. The ones who keep on accusing others have more things to hide," said another in English.

Another post translated from French said, no doubt, there are secrets in Fort Detrick, but no country is tough enough to challenge the U.S. on the issue.

A Russian-speaking respondent suggested the virus would have been discovered sooner if deaths caused by the "e-cigarette pneumonia" across the U.S. were taken seriously by U.S. health departments.

Asked whether an intelligence investigation into the origins of COVID-19 by the U.S. was for political reasons, 84 percent of French-speaking poll respondents on YouTube said the U.S. had politicized the issue. On Weibo, over 85 percent of participants said the move was politically motivated.

    Here are some more comments:

"It's not an intelligence investigation, but political and failure deflection tactics," said one in English.

An Arabic-speaking user questioned whether it was appropriate to have U.S. intelligence agencies involved in the investigation, saying the issue shouldn't fall under their remit.

A French-speaking respondent said the reason the U.S. persists with the lab leak theory is to create a diversion from its own domestic outbreak. The record-breaking number of deaths is why it wants to divert attention, blame and demonize China for its own mistakes.
The respondent added that although China is not perfect, it's unlikely to have the ability to create such a virus.

Many poll respondents said such an investigation should be done by scientists and scholars.

CGTN Think Tank found that Russian-speaking respondents on VK had a deeper mistrust of U.S. intelligence agencies than other groups. The percentage of Russian respondents who believe that the U.S. government's request is politically motivated stood at nearly 92 percent.

"Do you believe that since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, there has been an increase in discrimination and violence against people of Asian descent in the United States?"

CGTN Think Tank's third question caused netizens the most concern.

More than 88 percent believed that discrimination and violence against Asian groups in the U.S. were on the rise. There were heated debates in different languages, and bursts of emotions in the comment areas. The keywords were "Persecution," "Discrimination," "Racism," "Ugly" and "China-phobia."

"Yes. There were more related attacks and media have to report it due to social media pressure. But there is always discrimination," a U.S. social media user pointed out.

A comment in Spanish said racism has always existed in the U.S., adding that the country is looking for a scapegoat and trying to pin it on China. But the latter should not be held responsible for the outbreak.

Another comment translated from French said discrimination and violence against Asians is not just in the U.S. It added that many countries experience China-phobia.

One comment in Arabic described racism as a filthy mental epidemic.

A Russian-speaking respondent commented that the U.S. system is hypocritical and has been using destructive propaganda on other countries in the world.

CGTN Think Tank found that 81,600 of respondents to its survey indicated distrust and dissatisfaction with the United States.

Comments suggest the respondents see the U.S. as having double standards on the same issues facing other nations, Washington as holding biased views and undertaking political manipulation when it comes to origin-tracing issues, as well as experiencing rising discrimination and violence against people of Asian descent since the outbreak.

Survey respondents generally believed that the origin-tracing study should be conducted in multiple countries and regions.

A French-speaking respondent said if the U.S. truly wants to find out the origin of the virus, then it should let the WHO start an investigation on its 2019 e-cigarette pneumonia and flu cases, and the reason behind the shutdown of the Fort Detrick lab.

One comment translated from Arabic said discrimination against a certain group of people won't help in fighting the outbreak. What the world really needs to think about, it said, is staying together in this fight against humanity's common enemy – the COVID-19 pandemic."

China orders mass testing in Wuhan as COVID outbreak spreads

BEIJING (AP) — China suspended flights and trains, canceled professional basketball league games and announced mass coronavirus testing in Wuhan on Tuesday as widening outbreaks of the delta variant reached the city where the disease was first detected in late 2019.

While the total number of cases is still in the hundreds, they are far more widespread than anything China has dealt with since the initial outbreak that devastated Wuhan in early 2020 and over time spread to the rest of the country and the world.

China has not eliminated but largely curbed COVID-19 at home with quick lockdowns and mass testing to isolate infected people whenever new cases pop up. Most previous outbreaks didn’t spread far beyond a city or province. This time, cases have been confirmed in more than 35 cities in 17 of China’s 33 provinces and regions.

The cities of Nanjing and Yangzhou have canceled all domestic flights, and Beijing has halted long-distance trains from 23 stations. The Chinese Basketball Association said that matches of its men’s professional league would be suspended because of the pandemic.

Wuhan, a provincial capital of 11 million people in central China, is the latest city to undergo city-wide testing. Three cases were confirmed there on Monday, its first non-imported cases in more than a year.

They were among 90 new cases confirmed nationwide the previous day, the National Health Commission said Tuesday. Of those, 61 were locally spread ones and 29 among people who had recently arrived from abroad.

Most of the local cases are still in Jiangsu province, where an outbreak started at the airport in Nanjing, the provincial capital, and has spread to other parts of he province and beyond. Authorities reported 45 new cases, five in Nanjing and 40 in the city of Yangzhou, 105 kilometers (65 miles) away, where a second round of mass testing was underway.

Five other provinces and the cities of Beijing and Shanghai reported new local cases in the single digits. In Shanghai, the nation’s largest city, a driver working at one of its two main airports tested positive. Beijing has reported a total of five cases in recent days.

The Nanjing outbreak, which has been traced to the delta variant, is the source of the cases in most other places. Separately, delta variant outbreaks in two other places have been linked to neighboring Myanmar, which has seen a sharp rise in infections.

An outbreak in Zhengzhou, a city hit by flooding that killed about 300 people last month, started with people who arrived from Myanmar by air. A third outbreak, the one that started the earliest, spilled into Yunnan province from its border with Myanmar.

Government-affiliated scientists have said that Chinese vaccines are less effective against the new strains of the coronavirus but still offer some protection. Only Chinese vaccines are currently being given in China, where authorities say more than 1.6 billion doses have been administered.

People recovering from Covid may have ‘substantial’ drop in intelligence

The long-term effect of a Covid-19 infection could include a drop in intelligence, according to new research.

Between January and December last year, scientists conducted the Great British Intelligence Test that examined the IQ of 81,337 people.

Among that number were 13,000 who had been infected with the virus.

Once the scientists had factored out things like age, sex, language and education level, they found people recovering from Covid saw the biggest decline.

U.S. finally reaches milestone of 70% of adults with at least one COVID-19 shot

Washington — The U.S. has finally reached the Biden administration's milestone of 70% of American adults having received at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot, nearly a month after President Biden's original goal of July 4.

As of Monday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported 70% of American adults have at least one shot, while 60.6% of American adults are fully vaccinated. All three vaccines approved for emergency use in the U.S. provide strong protection against serious illness or death from COVID-19, including in cases caused by the highly contagious Delta variant.
