Unfortunately Bali is not representative of Indonesia as a whole, but the cultural effects remain. Vaccine and testing hesitancy is still rife here, even when the majority can get Astra Zeneca like I did, for free.
Other parts of the country still see groups of cultural dissonance, despite the place plunging into a worse state than India was a few months ago. People still flocked home during the July Eid! This despite government exhortations not to travel.
The public attitudes are changing, but very slowly, while the pandemic and variants run wildly out of control. Historical cultural influences are not easily overturned.
Even Sinovac offers some protection, just not the same level as mRNA vaccines.
