^It would obviously be better to offer vaccines with greater protection to medical professionals first, but given the trajectory of infections in Thailand, the military justification may well come to the fore quite soon.

I doubt this mitigating factor was uppermost in the Colonels mind when he sought better vaccines for the military.

Can you think of a country where the military took over the government that it worked well for that country? Yet they still try cause they think they are special and they will be better.
I am sure some of them have good intentions, but one should not be surprised that when the plumbers take over the bakery the quality of the bread declines.

Most Americans who haven’t been vaccinated against COVID-19 say they are unlikely to get the shots and doubt they would work against the aggressive delta variant despite evidence they do, according to a new poll that underscores the challenges facing public health officials amid soaring infections in some states.

Among American adults who have not yet received a vaccine, 35% say they probably will not, and 45% say they definitely will not, according to a poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. Just 3% say they definitely will get the shots, though another 16% say they probably will.

I am not advocating a military dictatorship, just musing on the likely future of military intervention, in the event of pandemic controls requiring stronger enforcement.

Could the US be declared a military dictatorship, on account of their consumption of GDP share? Asking for a friend.

There are two cultural norms preventing the reasonable uptake of vaccines. One is faith, and the other is stupidity. I will leave others to decide which applies and where.

And are you sure that if not the military in the bakery, are the bakers in charge of bakery really the real bakers?

Yes. In between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated, there are dead people.

Australia’s most populous state has declared a “national emergency” as it struggles to contain a record-breaking surge of the Delta variant of Covid-19 amid a lockdown affecting half the country.
The state of New South Wales announced 136 new locally-acquired cases of Covid-19 on Friday, with continued community transmission among essential workers, including in supermarkets and pharmacies.
More than a year after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, NSW has broken records for daily case numbers on consecutive days, and the city of Sydney is under the strictest lockdown measures it has ever experienced.

The number of new Covid-19 infections is on a steep upward curve, doubling or tripling weekly, a Department of Disease Control (DDC) official said on Saturday.

While the infection rate in Bangkok is beginning to level off, cases in the provinces are rising sharply, said Taweesap Siraprapasiri, a senior official with the DDC.

The number of new cases in Bangkok remains high yet the rise has begun to slow down, apparently as a result of measures being implemented to control the spread of the outbreak, he said.

    Darwin still working.

LOS ANGELES — A man who mocked Covid-19 vaccinations died this week at a Los Angeles-area hospital after contracting the virus.

    Stephen Harmon was 34.

Harmon died on Wednesday at Corona Regional Medical Center, about an hour's drive east of Los Angeles.

Stephen Harmon posted photos of himself in his hospital bed, wrote that he had pneumonia and critically low oxygen levels and was going to be intubated. In a tweet Wednesday, Harmon wrote: “Don’t know when I’ll wake up, please pray,” KCBS-TV reported.

Three days before his death, Harmon tweeted: “If you don’t have faith that God can heal me over your stupid ventilator then keep the Hell out of my ICU room, there’s no room in here for fear or lack of faith!”

Before his hospitalization, Harmon had made fun of vaccination efforts on social media.

“I got 99 problems but a vax ain't one," he said in a tweet last month.

On July 8, he posted: “Biden’s door to door vaccine ‘surveyors’ really should be called JaCovid Witnesses. #keepmovingdork.”

Harmon's death was “unbelievably demoralizing," Dr. Oren Friedman, who treats Covid-19 patients at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, told KCBS-TV. He said the number of Covid-19 admissions had increased tenfold.

“Virtually every single person that is getting sick enough to be admitted to the hospital has not been vaccinated,” Friedman said.

I presume this is because they can't trust people to stay at home and self-isolate, or many people simply can't.

    UK Ministerial Statement: Covid-19 Update

Nadhim Zahawi, Minister for Covid Vaccine Deployment, makes a statement to the House of Commons on the pandemic, moving to step 4 on the road map, the NHS covid pass and vaccination as a condition of entry.

    Delivered on: 22 July 2021

    "
Her constituents can rest assured that those who are in clinical trials, including the Novavax trial, will have their data on the NHS covid app as being fully vaccinated, whether they are receiving the placebo or the vaccine, across all trials."

Ministerial Statement: Covid-19 Update | Nadhim Zahawi MP | Member of Parliament for Stratford-on-Avon

It appears that if one were never vaccinated and given a placebo, by a government acceptable company, one is able to be listed as "being fully vaccinated" and hence acquire a NHS covid pass/passport.

Is this the norm in other countries?

One small problem: The sentence you quoted does not appear in the link you provided.

Perhaps a correction to one or the other is in order.

Added: Nothing can be hidden from the Hansard.

    Odd indeed.

Smatterings of news on social media:

-People dying on the streets of Bangkok and not getting taken away.
-Movie stars making comments about the government's ineptitude and then being taken away by the police.
    -Protests against the government.
-Thai doctors stating Sinovac should not be used in Thailand since it is ineffective.

Sure does not sound like a good situation in Thailand at the moment. The virus can double cases in 4 days if left unchecked and that sounds exactly like what the situation is. The exponential growth is not going to be pretty.

It’s not just Bangkok or the Thai provinces. Asian countries, with the possible exception of Singapore, are all struggling to exercise control over the pandemic, because of weak infrastructure, lack of adequate testing, and in Thailand’s case, xenophobia.
There are very strong, archaic cultural reasons for poor responses to lockdowns, and slow vaccine uptake.

The problem with vaccines isn't cultural, people are gagging for them - just not shit ones.
