NSW records 22 new cases, Qld three; Alice Springs to enter lockdown
Alice Springs has entered a “critical” 72-hour lockdown as a precautionary measure after a man who worked at a Northern Territory mine transitioned through the town’s airport before testing positive for Covid-19 in South Australia.
New South Wales recorded 22 new locally-acquired cases as multiple hospital wards in Sydney were locked down after a student nurse tested positive on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, the South Australian premier, Steven Marshall, said his state would not be going into lockdown after recording five new locally-acquired cases linked to the Tanami Desert mine in the NT.
Western Australia recorded one new locally-acquired case – a 37-year-old male who was still being interviewed by the state’s contact tracing team.
Queensland authorities say the state’s latest coronavirus outbreak has been traced to a hospital patient who was repeatedly allowed to travel to and from Indonesia for business, prompting accusations “the prime minister’s corporate mates” have been granted exemptions to cross the closed international border. The comments prompted a fierce rebuke from home affairs minister Karen Andrews, who said the Queensland government’s claim is “a smokescreen to hide the ineffectiveness” of its state quarantine.
Multiple state governments have directly criticised the commonwealth’s new position on the AstraZeneca vaccine, with Queensland saying that it does “not want under 40s to get AstraZeneca” and Victoria accusing Scott Morrison of creating unnecessary confusion.

At this point. in countries like the US that has more than sufficient vaccine recourses , the danger is not Covid 19 but the antivaxxer idiots. And like Covid was handled, so should the antivaxxers.

Covid vaccine from Germany's CureVac just 48% effectiveFRANKFURT: Germany's CureVac said Wednesday that final trial results showed its coronavirus vaccine had an efficacy rate of just 48%, far lower than those developed by mRNA rivals BioNTech/Pfizer and Moderna.
The outcome had been expected after poor interim data were released earlier this month.
The company in part blamed "the unprecedented context of 15 strains circulating" among the trial volunteers, as well as varying responses across age groups.

Seeing as the bridge is the only crossing over a notoriously crocodile-infested river, the two prepare to cross.
Just before they set foot on the bridge the anti-vaxxer asks the engineer "How safe is it to cross this bridge exactly".
"99.97%" the engineer replies confidently
The anti-vaxxer thinks for a moment before turning around and replies "Guess I'm swimming then..."
Australia's NSW state says Delta outbreak grows despite lockdown
SYDNEY, July 1 (Reuters) - Australia's New South Wales (NSW) state on Thursday warned that significant numbers of new COVID-19 cases were being found in the community, raising fears of fresh clusters as it reported a rise in new infections for a third straight day.
With state capital Sydney in the middle of a two-week lockdown to contain an outbreak of the highly infectious Delta variant, authorities said half of Thursday's total of 24 new cases had spent time in the community when infectious.
"(This) is a cause of concern. That is what we will be looking at in the next few days and beyond as a measure of our success," NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian told reporters.
Berejiklian said many people with flu-like symptoms were ignoring lockdown orders and "going about their business".

Thailand sees new high in Covid-19 cases and deaths nationwide
The latest Covid-19 infections among the general Thai population and Bangkok, as well as death tolls nationwide all reached a new high on Thursday, on the first day of July.
“The daily number for today is 5,533 cases and 57 related deaths,” said Dr Apisamai Srirangson, the deputy spokeswoman of the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).
From the total cases that were found in the past 24 hours, 5,477 were found within the general Thai population, excluding the 44 cases in prisons and 12 in imported cases.
The previous record for the nationwide daily number was at 5,379 on June 28, while the record for the daily death toll was at 53 related deaths on June 30.
The third wave, which started in entertainment venues in Bangkok and its surrounding provinces on April 1, has led to 235,971 cases and 1,986 deaths with a mortality rate of 0.84 per cent.
From the 5,477 local cases in the general Thai population, the highest numbers by province were at 1,960 in Bangkok, followed by 435 in Samut Prakan, 321 in Pathum Thani, 298 in Samut Sakhon, and 272 in Songkhla.
The previous record for the daily number of cases that were found in Bangkok was at 1,826 cases, reported on Wednesday.
To mitigate the shortage of hospital beds in Bangkok, the “home isolation” program has been launched to allow patients experiencing mild symptoms or are asymptomatic to self-quarantine and treat themselves via telemedicine at home.
The CCSA has also introduced more restriction measures to lock down construction workers’ camps and construction sites, a ban on events with more than 20 participants and a ban on dining-in at restaurants in Bangkok and surrounding provinces for the month of July.
Checkpoints have been set up to discourage travelling between the provinces.
The Ministry of Publich Health asked people who still need to travel for work to take showers immediately upon their return home, in order to avoid infection among family members.
They also asked people to wear face masks, practice social distancing and avoid eating together at home but none of this is mandatory.
The CCSA reported on Wednesday that there were 108 active clusters in Bangkok, with 97 of that with cases in the past 14 days. This includes 36 in worker camps and construction sites, 29 in business companies and factories, 19 around markets and shopping centers, 10 in residential areas and crowded communities, two in care homes and one in a naval academy.
Vaccines
A total of 5.83 million Covid-19 vaccines were administered between June 7 and 30, including 4.34 million first doses. This brings the total number of Thais who have had at least one jab to 7.11 million since February 28.
A total of 3.39 million people, or 22.9 per cent of Bangkok Metropolitan Region’s 14.85 million population have received their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine as of June 30.

^ My secretary has been fully vaccinated with Sinovac. She has been quietly advised (by someone with appropriate knowledge) to go get re-immunized with AstraZeneca.
