BBC receives 6,417 complaints for broadcasting Christian Eriksen collapse
    Published3 days ago

The BBC received 6,417 complaints about the broadcast of Christian Eriksen's collapse, newly published figures show.

The footballer was seen falling to the ground during the live broadcast of the Denmark v Finland Euro 2020 match on BBC One earlier this month.

It was later confirmed the midfielder had suffered cardiac arrest. He has since been discharged from hospital.

The BBC said the stadium coverage was controlled by Uefa but apologised for any upset caused to viewers.

June 13 (Reuters) - Inter Milan director Giuseppe Marotta dismissed suggestions that club midfielder Christian Eriksen, who collapsed in Denmark's Euro 2020 opener against Finland on Saturday, had previously contracted COVID-19 while the Italian club's doctor said he had shown no previous signs of a health issue.

Inter, the doctor Volpi: 'Few injuries and 5,000 tampons, this is how the Scudetto was born. In March the hardest days, now all vaccinated '
    May 18, 2021

Covid, tampons, transfers and limited injuries: behind the Inter Scudetto there is not only the work of Antonio Conte, but also that of the medical staff. The head of the Nerazzurri health sector, Piero Volpi , speaks to La Gazzetta dello Sport , explaining: "It was the most difficult season. An unprecedented, very complicated year. The fact that we reached the bottom by winning the title increases the satisfaction. merit must be divided among all the medical staff: carrying out this championship was not taken for granted, if we rewind the tape last September. The greatest difficulty? Absolutely disentangling the various Covid regulations, sporting and otherwise. And between the various local regulations. , national and international ".

ON THE PADS -"For each member of the team group, that is 50 people, you calculate about 100 swabs. Total, five thousand molecular. I speak only of this season, without counting the previous one. To those numbers, add about 20 serologicals each. Also from an economic point of view it was a very important expense ".

ON PLAYERS -"They deserve great credit. They became experts on the subject, I found myself confronted with them on the pandemic theme and I found them very well prepared. I say more: there is no category in the world, not even us doctors, who have undergone to a screening as accurate as football. It will be good not to disperse this treasure: what has been done can be scientific material to be explored in the future, as well as a model to follow. In the next championship the players will continue to be monitored. But at the start everyone will be vaccinated ".

    More chinky shit bad news.

SINGAPORE—At least 10 of the 26 doctors in Indonesia who died from Covid-19 this month had received both doses of the vaccine developed by Sinovac Biotech Ltd., a medical association said, raising questions about the Chinese-made shot that is being used in many parts of the developing world.

The Indonesian Medical Association’s Covid-19 mitigation group is still working to verify the vaccination status of the 16 others, said Dr. Adib Khumaidi, who leads the group. According to the group’s latest figures, over a five-month period, at least 20 doctors who were fully inoculated with Sinovac’s vaccine died from Covid-19, accounting for more than a fifth of total fatalities among doctors during that time span.

Delta variant to become dominant strain in Bangkok “within two to three months”

The number of people infected with the Delta and Beta variants of Covid-19, which was first identified in India and South Africa, have increased with the latter exceeding 120 cases, the Department of Medical Science (DMSC) said on Monday.

“About one-third of the Delta cases were found in Bangkok and if these rates hold, the Delta variant will become the dominant variant in the capital, replacing the Alpha variant (first identified in the United Kingdom) within the next two to three months,” said Dr Supakit Sirilak, the DMSC’s Director-General.

The DMSC said last week that of the 6,343 samples that were collected from around the country between April 7 and June 21, 5,641 cases or 88.93 per cent were identified as the Alpha variant, 664 cases or 10.47 per cent were the Delta variant, and the remaining 38 cases or 0.60 per cent were the Beta variant.

This week, from the total 9,106 samples that were collected between April 7 and June 27, 7,859 cases or 86.31 per cent were identified as the Alpha variant, 1,120 cases or 12.30 per cent were the Delta variant, and the remaining 127 cases or 1.39 per cent were the Beta variant.

From 1,120 samples that were identified as Delta variant, 25.66 per cent were found in Bangkok.

From 127 samples that were identified as Beta variant, 112 cases were found in Narathiwat alone followed by four in Pattani, three in Yala, three in Samut Prakan, two in Phuket, one in Surat Thani, one in Phatthalung and one in Bangkok.

The DMSC said the Beta variant case in the capital was found since June 23. Patient zero was a worker in a market who was visited by a family member from Narathiwat.

Another two family members were also infected with Covid but the variant is still being identified. Six other close colleagues of the patient have been tested, none of them have contracted the virus.

The government had already issued an emergency decree to lockdown construction workers’ camps and working sites in Bangkok and surrounding provinces in a bid to stop the Delta variant.

The government also introduced a restriction on people’s movement from and between four Southern provinces including Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala and Songkhla in a bid to stop the Beta variant from spreading to other regions of the country.

The DMSC said last week that available vaccines in Thailand, including AstraZeneca and Sinovac, are less effective against the Beta variant.

However, Dr Supakit said they are more concern over the spread of the Delta variant since the Beta variant is spreading slower than other variants and it is still mostly being contained within the Southern region.

“The one that we are concerning about is the Delta variant,” he said.

Study: Moderna, Pfizer Vaccines Likely Induce '''Persistent’ Immunity to Coronavirus

Vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna mount a "persistent" immune response to COVID-19, according to a new study.

The study, published Monday in the journal Nature, adds to a growing body of evidence that the protection from the virus induced by the vaccines could be long-lasting. It may mean that booster shots for the mRNA coronavirus vaccines aren't needed anytime soon.

"It's a good sign for how durable our immunity is from this vaccine," Ali Ellebedy, an immunologist at Washington University in St. Louis, who led the study, told The New York Times.

Researchers found that the so-called germinal centers in participants' lymph nodes were highly active nearly four months after the first dose of vaccine, suggesting that fully vaccinated people could have long-term protection.

"Germinal centers are the key to a persistent, protective immune response," Ellebedy said in a statement.

The study also found that "vaccination led to high levels of neutralizing antibodies effective against three variants of the virus, including the Beta variant from South Africa that has shown some resistance to vaccines," according to a press release.

While vaccines seem to work against the circulating variants, there is the possibility that further mutations in the future could reduce vaccine efficacy.

Experts told the Times that immunity induced by the mRNA shots could hypothetically last a lifetime in the absence of vaccine-resistant variants.

Deepta Bhattacharya, an immunologist at the University of Arizona, told the Times that "anything that would actually require a booster would be variant-based, not based on waning of immunity."

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week said that there is no data to currently support a recommendation for coronavirus booster shots. A recommendation for booster shots would likely "only occur" after "evidence of declining protection against illness, such as declines in vaccine effectiveness" or detection of a "variant of concern substantially impacting vaccine protection," a CDC official said.

The study did not look at the immune response induced by the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine.: SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccines induce persistent human germinal centre responses | Nature

Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates announced Monday that unvaccinated people will soon be banned from shopping centers, restaurants, universities, recreational facilities, and other places as part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The city’s government said the far-reaching measure had been approved by the Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee and will take effect on August 20. Children below the age of 16 and those who have an official exemption will not be affected.

“The committee stated [that] the decision would enhance safety in areas that have been subject to additional precautionary measures and provide enhanced protection for community members,” the Abu Dhabi Government Media Office said in a statement.

As a result, from August 20, those who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 will not be allowed to enter shopping centers, restaurants, cafes, and all other retail outlets, including those which are not part of a shopping center, except supermarkets and pharmacies.

Other places where unvaccinated people will be banned are gyms, recreational facilities, health clubs, resorts, museums, cultural centers, theme parks, universities, institutes, public and private schools, and nurseries.

The United Arab Emirates has recorded more than 607,000 coronavirus cases and 1,802 deaths since the start of the pandemic. More than 2,000 new cases were reported on Monday, along with six new deaths.

Maybe you will have seen my other post about Indonesian sinoshite-vaccinated doctors dying. But in this case I was merely pointing out that the Bangkok Post chose to publish an article about breakthrough infections of sinoshite-vaccinated Thais.

I haven't seen them post something similar about AZ.

So are they mirroring the nation's concerns about the chinky shit or do they have concerns of their own?

So Buckaroo in the interests of journalistic balance I looked for a similar article about the chinky shit, but I couldn't find one, probably because they haven't made one up yet.

Covid-19 vaccines made by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna produce a strong immune reaction in the body that may protect against the virus for years, according to a new study.

The latest findings add to growing evidence suggesting that many people who have received a messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine may not need a booster dose – as long as the virus and its variants do not evolve much beyond their current forms.

The peer-reviewed study, published in the science journal
Nature, found both vaccines are likely to offer long-lasting protection against Covid-19.

Indonesia ‘on edge of catastrophe’ as coronavirus Delta variant floods hospitals – Red Cross

Indonesia is on the verge of a coronavirus “catastrophe,” the Red Cross has warned, as the country endures a rapid spread of the highly contagious Delta variant of Covid-19 that has already overwhelmed its hospitals.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) sounded the alarm over the situation on Tuesday, warning that the South Asian nation is heading into a crisis.

“Every day we are seeing this Delta variant driving Indonesia closer to the edge of a Covid-19 catastrophe,” Jan Gelfand, the head of the Indonesian IFRC delegation, said in a statement.

Indonesia has recently been reporting around 20,000 new cases of coronavirus daily. The figure might not seem especially concerning for a nation of 270 million, yet the situation on the ground is likely significantly worse. Some 20% of Covid-19 tests return positive results every day, suggesting a large number of infections go undetected due to insufficient testing, the IFRC said.

Many of the new cases have been attributed to the Delta variant, first detected in India last October. The strain is extremely contagious and has already sparked major outbreaks in countries across the globe.

Multiple hospitals in the capital, Jakarta, and elsewhere are already reporting that they’re over capacity, having effectively run out of beds to accommodate patients. The IFRC-run facilities have been forced to set up additional temporary wards to accommodate the influx.

“The Indonesian Red Cross Covid-19 hospital in Bogor, West Java, is overflowing. We have set up emergency tents at the hospital to accommodate more patients, with many traveling for hours so they can access vital medical care,” Sudirman Said, the secretary general of local Red Cross chapter, stated.

The country’s vaccination drive is proceeding at a very modest pace, meanwhile, with less than 5% of Indonesia’s adult population having so far been fully vaccinated. To remedy the situation, wealthier nations must speed up the vaccine-sharing process, providing struggling nations with their surplus, Gelfand stressed.

“We need lightning-fast action globally so that countries like Indonesia have access to the vaccines needed to avert tens of thousands of deaths. We must focus on getting vaccinations into the arms of those most at risk and all adults everywhere to contain this virus,” he said.

FDA warns medics not to use defective Sinovac vaccine

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned medics to avoid inoculating Sinovac vaccine if they find any abnormality in the dose, likely caused by improper storage and transportation.

On Monday, the FDA said that some lots of Sinovac looked like gel, and this could not be improved by just shaking the vaccine bottles.

The FDA explained that this condition was caused by improper temperature during storage or transportation. The FDA said that the vaccine must be stored at 2.8 degrees Celsius in order to preserve its quality.

In case medics find abnormal Sinovac doses, the FDA said they must not be used and the situation must be reported.

Defective storage and movement cannot possible be responsible for the alarming rise in Chines vaccine failures. Bahrain, Hungary, Peru and Indonesia are not isolated cases of a defective batch. They are too far removed and the vaccines should be withdrawn and replaced immediately with something that actually works.

Although I live in Indonesia, and I have already had two doses of the AZ vaccine, I’m seriously concerned for the indigenous population, now dependent on handouts from the WHO.

SEOUL, June 30 (Yonhap) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said a "grave incident" has happened that could threaten the safety of his people and country in nationwide anti-epidemic efforts, state media reported Wednesday.

Kim made the remarks as he presided over an extended politburo meeting of the ruling Workers' Party on Tuesday, accusing senior officials of neglecting their duties in carrying out measures needed to fight the global pandemic, according to the Korean Central News Agency.

"By neglecting important decisions of the party in its national emergency antivirus fight in preparations for a global health crisis, officials in charge have caused a grave incident that poses a huge crisis to the safety of the nation and its people," the KCNA said.

The KCNA did not elaborate on what the grave incident was.

North Korea has claimed to be coronavirus-free but has enforced tight border controls and other antivirus measures since the beginning to ward off an outbreak on its soil.
