Other viruses surge in Israel as Covid wanes.

The corona crisis might be over, but all over Israel adults and children are getting sick with viral infections in a phenomenon that is unprecedented for this time of the year, according to several medical professionals.

“We have never seen anything like this,” said Dr. Tal Brosh, head of Infectious Disease Unit at the Samson Assuta Ashdod Hospital. “We’ve been monitoring viral infections in the hospital, which of course is just the tip of the iceberg of what is going on in the community, as for each hospitalized patient, there are many more out there. Since the spring, we have been seeing an increasing number of respiratory diseases, and since May there has been a surge in RSV cases.”

Maybe the "sinopharm-vaccinated" is more significant than "Moroccans".

The UAE, which has been administering Sinopharm booster shots since March, has reportedly undertaken a clandestine effort to revaccinate fully vaccinated people with Pfizer’s shot. The Wall Street Journal cites “dozens of recipients” as telling them they have been vaccinated again, some of whom reported developing no antibodies after their Sinopharm immunization.

    Another antivaxx wanker.

Mining magnate Clive Palmer has been bombarding letterboxes urging people not to get a COVID-19 vaccine and citing discredited figures on the number of deaths caused by the jabs.

The Brazilian baldy orange cunto's popularity appears to be waning. Another idiot who downplayed the virus.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Anti-government protesters took to the streets in more than a score of cities across Brazil on Saturday as the nation's confirmed death toll from COVID-19 soared past half a million — a tragedy many critics blame on President Jair Bolsonaro's attempt to minimize the disease.

Thousands gathered in downtown Rio de Janeiro waving flags with slogans such as "Get out Bolsonaro. Government of hunger and unemployment."

"Brazil is experiencing a great setback. The country was an exemplary country for vaccination in the world. We have widely recognized institutions, but today we are in a sad situation," said Isabela Gouljor, a 20-year-old student who joined the protest in Rio.

Other marchers hoisted posters reading: "500 thousand deaths. It's his fault," alluding to Bolsonaro.

Somehow Bolsonaro has managed to kill half a million Brasilians out of 18 million cases, which doesn't compare favourably with the US figure of 600,000 in 34 million.

Sinovac develops over 50 per cent immunity in Thais in 2 weeks: study

Two Sinovac vaccine jabs help stimulate Thais immunity against Covid-19 by over 50 per cent, Chulalongkorn Universitys Faculty of Medicine said on Saturday.

The university said it had conducted tests on people who had already received two Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine jabs with the Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences.

"The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay showed that 95 per cent of 186 people who had received two Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine jabs had already developed immunity against Covid-19," the university said.

Meanwhile, blood tests also showed that 70 per cent of 171 people who had received two Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine jabs for two weeks had over 50 per cent immunity against the virus."

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 20) — The Philippine government has signed a supply agreement for 40 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines, the biggest vaccine procurement for 2021.
“We are very happy to report that the government and the management of Pfizer have finally concluded our negotiations. Secretary Duque and I signed yesterday the supply agreement for the biggest and most decisive deal we had for 2021,” said National Task Force against COVID 19 Chief Implementer and vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. in a statement on Sunday.

Phuket Expats with Work Permits were able to register for vaccinations about a month ago, and a couple weeks ago started their vaccinations. It was thrown open last week for other Expats (Retired/Married etc) to register last week, which I did. Just got confirmation of my first and second dose dates/time, with AstraZeneca being the vaccine administered.

Perhaps it's me, I can't really understand the difference between those two statistics.

70 per cent ... had over 50 per cent immunity

What, exactly, does that mean? Is it that 30 per cent have no immunity whatsoever, whereas half of the remainder have a 100% chance of becoming infected. Or all of the remainder have the same 50/50 chance of being infected?

Rarely go out these days anyway, and the primary reason for getting the vaccine (for me at least) is that it should remove any potential hurdles for out of province travel that may or may not be introduced in the future. Got a trip planned to Kanchanaburi in November so should be good to go if there are any restrictions.

    Amazing.

Chatchai Promlert, permanent secretary for the Interior Ministry, is insisting that his approval to provide free Covid-19 vaccine doses to over 70,000 Thai Beverage Public Company Limited (ThaiBev) employees and their families is lawful.

The Nation article only cites Chula.

The idea of 50% immunity is curious. Do they mean that out of 2 people one is completely immune and the other has no immunity whatsoever? Or perhaps when the same two people exposed to some standard viral load then one will be 'immune' and the other will get sick? Or they both get half sick?

Probably Chula knew what they meant. After passing through the mind of a news reporter their meaning has been lost.
