Most tourists just take their favourite teabags on holiday with them.

Seventeen Italian citizens in India have tested positive for coronavirus, media said on Wednesday.
State broadcaster Doordarshan as well as private TV networks NDTV and CNN-News18 all said 21 Italian tourists had been tested in the capital New Delhi, citing unidentified sources.

North Korea Quarantines Island County as 7000 Suspected Coronavirus Patients are Being Monitored.

An entire island county in North Korea’s North Pyongan Province was designated as a quarantine zone last week, after residents there began exhibiting signs of coronavirus infection, RFA has learned.

Although North Korea has yet to report a confirmed case of COVID-19, state media Sunday said nearly 7,000 people were being held for “medical monitoring” between North Pyongan, South Pyongan, and Kangwon provinces.

The government has also in recent weeks taken aggressive precautions to prevent its spread within the country, including the cancellation of major festivals.

The quarantine was imposed in Shindo county, an island at the mouth of the Yalu river located at the westernmost edge of the Sino-Korean land border. Sources say it is a high-risk area because it is frequently used by smugglers to get in and out of China easily.

^ MK ... we posted at the same time ... have a watch of the video above ...

    ---

Chinese scientists identify two types of the coronavirus — with faster spread of the more aggressive kind

    Key Points

    • The more aggressive type of virus was found to be prevalent in the early stages of the outbreak in Wuhan — the Chinese city where COVID-19 was first detected late last year.
    • But, the frequency of this type of virus has since decreased from early January, the scientists said.
    • Researchers cautioned that data examined in the study was still “very limited.”

Thousands wait for hospital beds in South Korea

SEOUL (Reuters) – South Korea reported 516 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday as thousands of sick people waited for hospital beds in Daegu, the city at the center of the worst outbreak outside mainland China.

The new cases bring South Korea’s total to 5,328, with at least 32 deaths, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said.

    Currently. This week.
Last week it was 3.5% and it is dropping slowly if one looks at the delta from day to day.
China started with a lot of cases and a death rate of 17% so it will take some time before that is balanced out in the statistics.
Remove China from the statistics and the death rate becomes 1.7%...

Not strictly true, and availability of health care is a major factor which skews it somewhat.

Also, there is no data for people who got it, barely noticed it and were not included, so yes, it's still a work in progress I'd say.

Toll doubled in 24hrs in the UK.

WHO expecting a 1.3% death rate of the total world population

Apparently statutory sick pay starts from day 1 now in the UK.
Previously it started on day 4.

I think part of the problem can be attributed to our modern lifestyle like our food intake, level of stress, sleeping routine, day to day physical activities. A high number of people have weak, easy to compromised immune systems.

    Hi back.😋

I am feeling thankful that the virus hasn't spread rampantly in Palawan and most of PI. Been travelling lately.

Been told my doctors to stay hydrated as possible. The virus easily gets transmitted if one has a dry throat.

Why does Vietnam have so few cases. Early planning or fudging the numbers?

I think the quantity and quality of testing is the deciding factor

it will be a lot more prevalent everywhere because most quarantining happened after it had a good foothold

a lot of the transmission would have already occurred in December and January and considering the majority will only have symptoms of a small dry cough for a couple of days then as we see more widespread testing we will see increased numbers

There is an inevitable media focus on the number of cases and the number of deaths. And good to see 51,000 recovered. I am interested to know about the other number, about 40,000 confirmed cases who are neither deceased nor recovered.

Are those people sitting quietly at home with a cup of cocoa or are they all in intensive care?

Lots to be said against NK for sure, but in context of a serious killer virus if you're not infected and wish to stay that way it's a great place to be, where they could announce a nationwide quarantine in the morning and seal the place by afternoon without a single voice of discontent.

I believe from a documentary that it took years after the SARS scare was over before authorities were able to compile reliable stats; a tremendous amount of data and elements to gather and process, so it's an ongoing process that can only become accurate after the event.

While knowledge and tech have improved somewhat, CVirus is still a relative newcomer and just the data harvesting is unlikely to be completed for months after it is beaten.
