Any Idea when and how one can register to obtain the Privately issued vaccine? We would like to have my wife's sister and brother in Law vaccinated ASAP. My wife's mother and father passed away in the past couple pf years and if something happened to her sister also it would be devastating to her.

^^ Well there wasn't a confirmed link, but there appears to be one now. What I would like to know is if this was the reason the trial was stopped briefly or whether that was for a different reason.

Pfizer requested an amendment to its emergency use authorization of its Covid-19 vaccine, to expand its use in people ages 12 to 15 in the United States. Currently, the vaccine is authorized for emergency use by the US Food and Drug Administration in people aged 16 and up.

“The companies plan to request similar rulings by other regulatory authorities worldwide in coming days. These requests are based on data from the pivotal Phase 3 trial in adolescents 12 to 15 years of age with or without prior evidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection, which demonstrated 100 percent efficacy and robust antibody response after vaccination with the COVID-19 Vaccine,” Pfizer said in a statement Friday.

The other two Covid-19 vaccines – made by Moderna and Johnson & Johnson – are currently authorized for emergency use in people age 18 and older.

Wow Iran is way ahead of everyone.

(Reuters) - Iran imposed a 10-day lockdown across most of the country on Saturday to curb the spread of a fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic, state media reported.

I'm sure impending news of their fuck ups has nothing to do with the krauts spreading scare stories about the vaccines.

Shocking news of the kind that came from Portugal in February this year is feared by many in Germany as well: ambulances queuing up in front of hospitals, overcrowded intensive care units in which three times as many patients are treated as normal, triage tents erected outside hospitals.

The COVID-19 situation is not yet as grave as that in Germany, but warning voices are becoming more persistent.

As always, during a recent government press conference in Berlin, the pandemic was the main topic or one of them. It was noted that Germany's seven-day incidence rate had dropped, possibly because of the Easter holidays, but that thenumber of occupied ICU beds across Germany was increasing "much too quickly."

During the first wave of the pandemic, the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (DIVI) set up a central registry that records and publicizes the situation in hospitals, or rather in intensive care units, on a daily basis.

A glance at the current map shows that the situation is critical again in some towns and municipalities, meaning that less than 10% of intensive care beds are free — and in some cases none at all. DIVI President Gernot Marx gave a clear statement during a press conference: "Every single day counts; we quickly need a hard lockdown of two or three weeks to lower the number of cases and give us more time for vaccinations."

I wonder if we can take this to the bank?

I personally don't know how a "new wave" is defined.

We've only just gotten into a third wave and we were pretty early starters in the entire race.

Damn, nobody wishes to see that.

For some reason the folks responsible for setting down the rules are now hinting of such a thing in Canadian hospitals. I think they be exaggerating. Scares the shit out of the mass of the uneducated though.

It seems pretty well established now that the relatively rich countries of the West are coming into a very critical few weeks.

Meantime, in the countries of the Third World, they're still awaiting a first sniff.

Hunker down, the end is in sight.

Norwegian researchers have now taken a closer look at the blood clots that are considered an unusual side effect of Astra Zeneca's vaccine.

The Norwegian patients who have been affected have had "sky-high" levels of antibodies.

    - We have never seen such a high level, says chief physician Ingvild Sørvoll at a press conference.

There has already been 4 serious cases of blood clots reported for Johnson & Johnson's Jansen-vaccine which is using the same viral-vector method as the AZ vaccine (and as the Sputnik vaccine).

Moderna and Pfizer are mRNA vaccines and Sinovac is an inactivated virus vaccine.

In other news, vaccine roll out going well, which is just as well because the 3rd wave starts in the UK tomorrow.

UK passes 32m first Covid vaccination target figure days ahead of 15 April deadline

The UK has passed the figure of 32 million first vaccinations, equal to the estimated number of people most vulnerable to coronavirus to whom the government promised to offer a jab by 15 April.

The milestone came as second doses of the Covid-19 vaccines hit a daily record of 450,136, bringing the total with two jabs to 6,991,310 – more than 10 per cent of the population.

The Department of Health and Social Care did not claim the 32 million milestone as representing the target being reached.
But vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi retweeted a social media post describing the figure as a “landmark”, in a clear indication that he regards it as a mark of the success of the programme.

A deparment spokesperson said: “Our vaccination programme continues to make phenomenal progress – with over 38 million vaccines administered so far.

Stoopid chinkies... did they think people wouldn't notice?

In a rare admission of the weakness of Chinese coronavirus vaccines, the country's top disease control official says their effectiveness is low and the government is considering mixing them to give them a boost.

Chinese vaccines “don’t have very high protection rates,” said the director of the China Centers for Disease Control, Gao Fu, at a conference Saturday in the southwestern city of Chengdu.

Beijing has distributed hundreds of millions of doses in other countries while also trying to promote doubt about the effectiveness of Western vaccines.

The managers of Krystal Club and Emerald Club in Bangkok's Thong Lor area, where a new wave of Covid-19 in the country allegedly began, have been each sentenced to two months in jail without suspension, Metropolitan Police Sub-division 5 commander Pol Maj Gen Sopon Sarapat revealed on Sunday.
He said the Bangkok South Kwaeng Court delivered the sentence on Friday after finding them guilty of violating the emergency decree and the Entertainment Place Act of 1978.

A police committee is to consider proposing the closure of the venues for five years, if they were found to have opened beyond the time limit, allowed solicitation for prostitution to take place on the premises and operated without a licence, Pol Maj Gen Sopon added.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration earlier ordered pubs, bars and clubs in Bangkok connected with the latest outbreak to close for 14 days.

Eighteen officers at Thong Lor police station, all of them responsible for patrolling public areas, have been infected with Covid-19.

Doctors suspected that while on patrol at these entertainment places the officers, although wearing face masks, might not be have worn gloves while performing their duties. They might then have been infected by touching their faces.

The Metropolitan Police Bureau has logged 56 infections among its officers and staff, and a further 38 had been ordered to go into isolation, Pol Maj Gen Sopon said.

Be interesting to see how the hell they are going to control that. Hopefully there being nowhere to drink will have stopped all the Bangkok traffic that normally arrives at this time of year.

Chiang Mai adds 281 Covid cases, cancels some Songkran events

Officials in Chiang Mai on Sunday afternoon reported hundreds of new Covid-19 infections and said they had been forced to cancel some of the planned celebrations of next week's Thai New Year.

The provincial public health office in the city known as the "Rose of the North" said 281 new cases had been detected in the province, bringing the total number of confirmed cases since the beginning of this month to 664. Sunday's figures were not included in the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration's updates on Sunday and will be reflected in Monday's nationwide report.

Chiang Mai's new caseload on Sunday was the highest since the outbreak began seven days ago in the province, a favoured destination for both Thai and international tourists, particularly over Songkran. Many tourists had already cancelled their trips there.

Chiang Mai has ordered people travelling from Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, Pathum Thani and Nakhon Pathom to register through the CM Chana app and observe self-quarantine for 14 days. It also closed all entertainment venues until April 23.

On Sunday, the province decided to cancel some of the functions planned for Songkran festivities and scaled down others. The alms-offering ceremony planned for Tuesday at Tha Phae Gate were among the events being scrapped.

"We have to boost confidence for residents in the province and try to curd the spread of the virus," deputy provincial governor Rattaphol Naradisorn said.

Health authorities in Chiang Mai asked people who recently visited 10 places connected to the latest outbreak to get tested for Covid-19. The venues are Warm Up Cafe Chiang Mai, DC Chiang Mai, Ground Consol's Garden, Phor Jai bar, Valentine's karaoke, Tha Chang cafe, Infinity Club, Living Machine, Tawan Daeng and Too Nice Nimman.

Tests are available at nearby hospitals, the provincial health office and the Chiang Mai International Exhibition and Convention Centre, authorities said.

The centre has been turned into a makeshift hospital to handle coronavirus patients.
