Argentina's President Alberto Fernandez on Wednesday announced a three-week nighttime curfew after a second consecutive day of record coronavirus infections. The curfew will enter into force on Friday and apply from midnight to 06:00 am every day until April 30, he said in a message recorded at his official residence, where he is self-isolating after being infected with the virus himself. It will be in force in the country's highest risk areas, mainly the urban centers, the president said. Bars and restaurants will close at 11:00 pm. Earlier Wednesday, Argentina's health ministry said a record 22,039 new infections were reported in the preceding 24 hours -- up from the previous record of 20,870 the day before.

    Eurotrash wankers.

It's not officially an export ban, but it's not exactly free trade: It's the murky EU vaccine export strategy.

According to EU officials and diplomats, Brussels is pressuring vaccine makers to reprioritize shipments to the EU, even if that means other countries, such as Australia, will suffer additional delays. But it's not technically banning those exports.

In the latest episode of the EU's vaccine procurement drama, Australian government officials on Tuesday
claimed the EU had effectively blocked millions of doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine. The allegation contradicted the European Commission, which on Wednesday again insisted it had so far only blocked a single shipment to Australia of 250,000 doses. Observers and journalists scrambled to find out which side was right.

    It turns out, both were.

While the EU officially hasn't blocked more vaccine shipments, it has been leaning on vaccine producers to send doses to the EU instead of other countries.

Effectively, that means the EU has managed to stop more vaccine exports than those it has officially halted, officials in Brussels and Australia said.

Poor squareheads. Victims of the EU's incompetence. You have to say they only have themselves to blame for letting that harridan run the show.

BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany is about to start bilateral negotiations with Russia to obtain its Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine, a source told Reuters on Wednesday, adding that any final agreement depended on Russia providing key data to the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
The European Commission told health ministers of EU member states on Wednesday that Brussels was not planning to start talks with Russia on a preliminary contract for Sputnik V as it did with other vaccine providers, a person with knowledge of the matter told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

That is why German Health Minister Jens Spahn announced during the virtual meeting that Germany would start preliminary negotiations with Russia on a bilateral agreement to secure the vaccine, the source added.
In the preliminary talks, Germany first wants to determine which quantities Russia can deliver and when, the source said.

In any case, Germany will only buy the Russian vaccine once it has been approved by EMA and for this it is paramount that Russia provides the necessary data, the source added.
Earlier on Wednesday, the premier of Bavaria said the German region will buy 2.5 million doses of the Sputnik vaccine if it is approved by EMA.
Markus Soeder, premier of the wealthy southern German state, said the purchase would take place in July.

Scientists call for new probe into COVID-19 origins: with or without China

    April 7, 202111:08 PMUpdated 17 hours ago.

"SHANGHAI (Reuters) - A joint China-World Health Organization (WHO) study into COVID-19 has provided no credible answers about how the pandemic began, and more rigorous investigations are required - with or without Beijing’s involvement, a group of international scientists and researchers said on Wednesday.

In an open letter, 24 scientists and researchers from Europe, the United States, Australia and Japan said the study was tainted by politics.

“Their starting point was, let’s have as much compromise as is required to get some minimal cooperation from China,” said Jamie Metzl, senior fellow at the Atlantic Council think tank, who drafted the letter.".

One hopes the "24 scientists and researchers from Europe, the United States, Australia and Japan" will demand similar investigations into their own governments biological warfare agencies, wherever they are situated globally.

Once completed, a comparison study by the same group plus China following their suggested procedures to ascertain the complete picture.

A well paid year or so studying their agencies, some comparative analysis, the peer reviews ....

    Get going lads and lasses.

The EU have had a downer on Astrazeneca since the British organized millions of vaccinations and they were left looking stupid.

Of course now they need it, they are looking even more stupid, because no-one wants it.

Which makes it even more absurd that they would deny it to countries like Australia who are more than happy to take it and manage the risks.

As long as that idiotic woman is in charge they will be fucking it up. She should resign in disgrace along with the other useless fart she picked to manage this debacle.

Is that meant to be an explanation to why no other covid vaccines creates blood clots?

As I have repeatedly said, there is no confirmed link between Vaxzevria and blood clots, because the numbers for the vaccinated are no worse than those without.

What started as an attempt at sabotaging the AZ vaccine without any meaningful data has snowballed into a paranoid theatre which is probably causing more deaths from clots in the unvaccinated, and more deaths from these causes in the infected.

Everyone is now having to try and manage this PR nightmare to convince people that vaccines are safe. There was never any evidence that people were at any statistically significant risk being vaccinated than not.

This is the EMA's official statement:

Emer Cooke, the executive director of the European Medicines Agency, said that the "benefits of the AstraZeneca overall outweigh the risks of side effects."
The vaccine has "proved to be highly effective," she said at a news briefing, adding that it prevented "severe disease and hospitalization and it is saving lives."
However, Cooke added that after a "very in-depth analysis," the regulator had "concluded that the reported cases of unusual blood clotting following vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine should be listed as possible side effects of the vaccine."
    And further:

Based on the figures announced today by the UK medicines regulator, if 10 million imaginary people were given the AZ vaccine you might expect to see 40 of these clots - with about 10 clots having fatal consequences.

    <snip>

Roughly 40 men and 100 women in our imaginary group of 10 million might expect to have one of these clots in any given year without vaccination, with more seen in younger people.
The numbers are too inconsequential to even consider as a significant risk. This is the very definition of a nothing burger and it's tragic that everyone is having to scrabble to persuade people to get vaccinated. There will be a lot more deaths because of this nonsense.

62 million doses of Johnson & Johnson's vaccine need to be checked for contamination and may need to be thrown out, The New York Times reports
    Apr 7, 2021, 12:43 AM

Another 62 million doses of J&J's COVID-19 vaccine may be contaminated, The New York Times reported.

An earlier batch of 15 million doses was ruined at an Emergent BioSolutions facility in Baltimore.

None of the doses have been distributed to the public.

Another 62 million of Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine doses are in jeopardy at the Baltimore factory that already ruined 15 million doses of the vaccine, according to a report from The New York Times.

In February, workers at a factory run by Emergent BioSolutions — a biotech firm known for producing anthrax vaccines — unknowingly cross-contaminated roughly 15 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine with AstraZeneca's, permanently ruining the batch, The Times first reported. None of the doses have been distributed to the public.

Now 62 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine that have been made at the factory since have to be checked to ensure they weren't also contaminated, The Times reported.

If they are contaminated, they will also have to be thrown out.

The factory — which engineers the vaccine but doesn't bottle it — has produced at least 150 million Johnson & Johnson vaccine doses in total.

None of those doses have been used, however, because the factory hasn't been certified by regulators to distribute the doses to the public, The Times reported.

Emergent BioSolutions told Insider that the company's quality-control systems were "working as designed to detect and isolate any batch that fails to meet quality standards for any reason."

"No one, including employees at Emergent, wants to see vaccines that cannot be used," the company said in a statement, adding: "Any allegation that our safety, quality, and compliance systems are not working or that we do not take these responsibilities seriously is unequivocally false."

    The coronavirus pandemic
Potentially fatal blood clots are a very rare side effect of AstraZeneca's vaccine, European regulators say.

Under-30s in the UK should not take the AstraZeneca vaccine, UK regulators say, citing rare blood clots.

Over a third of COVID-19 survivors experience a neurological or mental-health condition in the 6 months after infection, a large-scale study finds.

Of the 1.7 million people who are fully vaccinated in Michigan, only 246 people tested positive for COVID-19.

Coronavirus variants are ripping through Canada and Minnesota, and they're infecting younger people most, officials warn.

Other vaccines are also reportedly causing clots, just not being shouted about

Coronavirus: Pfizer's Covid vaccine is linked to MORE blood clots than AstraZeneca's in the UK

Pfizer‘s Covid vaccine has been linked to more blood clots than AstraZeneca‘s in reports from the UK, statistics show amid Europe’s ‘baffling’ mass revolt against the Oxford jab.

Fourteen countries across the continent have now turned their backs on the Oxford University jab in a knee-jerk reaction over unproven blood clot fears, including France, Italy, Germany and Spain.

EU regulators today moved to quell safety concerns, insisting there was no proof the vaccine causes dangerous side-effects.

European Medicines Agency (EMA) bosses said they were ‘firmly convinced’ that injections with the AstraZeneca shot should continue. Safety experts said a ‘very small number of people’ have come down with blood disorders but there is ‘no indication’ the jab was to blame.

It joined the World Health Organization and the UK government in offering a full-throated defence of the vaccine amid fury at European heavyweights for suspending the jabs.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson also waded into the row today, insisting the AstraZeneca vaccine is safe and saying he would be ‘very happy’ if he is given it when he goes to his first Covid vaccination appointment this week.

Leaders on the continent were accused of risking lives with the ‘reckless’ decisions to stop the flow of vaccines, with scientists warning Covid is 100,000 times more dangerous, compared to the tiny possibility of an issue with clotting.

And data from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) regulator in the UK show more people have reported blood clots after having Pfizer’s vaccine than the Oxford one — even though Pfizer’s jab has not been suspended anywhere.

Up to February 28 there were 38 reports from approximately 11.5million doses of Pfizer’s jab, compared to 30 from 9.7m AstraZeneca doses. However, neither figure – the equivalent of one blood clot seen in every 367,000 jabs – is thought to be higher than the risk expected in the general population.

Chief of Italy’s medicines regulator, Nicola Magrini, today claimed the sweeping bans across Europe were part of a politically driven snowball effect which had seen countries within the bloc come under pressure to follow suit.

Meanwhile, German regulators today attempted to justify the controversial decision to suspend use of the jab by revealing seven out of 1.6million people are thought to have developed a deadly type of blood clot after getting AstraZeneca’s vaccine. For comparison, they only expected to see one case of sinus vein thrombosis.

Breaking the silence on the decision to suspend use of the jab, Germany’s Paul Ehrlich Institute said the condition is ‘so serious that it is not justifiable to continue vaccinating without testing’. UK’s drug regulators appear to have spotted the condition five times in 11million doses — but have yet to comment on Germany’s figures.

Germany seeks talks with Russia over Sputnik Covid vaccine

Germany’s health minister has said he wants to hold talks with Moscow about obtaining supplies of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V, in an effort to boost the country’s inoculation campaign.

Jens Spahn said Germany would have no hesitation in acting independently of the EU, indicating his frustration over the bloc’s refusal to engage with the Russian jab’s manufacturers, but he stressed that the vaccine would only be used if it was approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

The announcement signals a significant change in Germany’s stance on vaccine procurement, which until now has been to stress a unified approach by EU members.

Spahn has faced increasing pressure to speed up Germany’s sluggish vaccine programme amid criticism that it has suffered from the European commission’s lack of urgency, even as he said the programme had stepped up a pace in recent days, boosted by the introduction of vaccinating in GP practices.

Well if you're wondering why Thailand doesn't trust the Russian shit:

Slovak watchdog says Sputnik V batch differs from those reviewed

    By Reuters Staff
    1 MIN READ

PRAGUE, April 8 (Reuters) - Slovak drug agency SUKL said on Thursday the Russian vaccine Sputnik V batch delivered to Slovakia differs from those reviewed by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and medical journal The Lancet.
The watchdog reiterated that it could not determine the benefits and risks of the vaccine, of which Slovakia imported 200,000 doses last month but has not started using, due to insufficient data provided by the producer. (Reporting by Jan Lopatka; editing by Jason Neely)

And judging by the indignant snivelling, Putin's got his tits in a wringer. He's been spending too much time with Mr. Shithole. This could have been written by one of Hoohoo's chinky propaganda farms.

Sputnik V's official Twitter account on Thursday accused the Slovak Drug agency SUKL of a “disinformation campaign” against the Russian vaccine after the watchdog said the batch of 200,000 vaccines the country received differed from those reviewed by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the medical journal The Lancet.

On Wednesday, media reported that SUKL told the country’s Health Ministry it had been unable to evaluate the risks and benefits of Sputnik V due to a lack of data and inconsistencies in dosages. SUKL on Thursday
said that on top of the lack of data it believed the batch delivered to Slovakia was not the same as the test batches.

“SUKL has launched a disinformation campaign against
#SputnikV and plans additional provocations. The statement from SIDC that the batch of Sputnik V delivered to Slovakia does not have the same characteristics as the vaccine described in The Lancet is fake news,” Sputnik V’s official account tweeted. The vaccine has yet to be approved by the EU.

“All Sputnik V batches are of the same quality and undergo rigorous quality control at the Gamaleya Institute,” the account said.

Terrible marketing name. Sputnik, inspires visions of the cold war era soviet manufacturing technology. . Who ever came up with that name needs to be taken out in the shed and pistol wiped.
They should had used one of these made up names that mean nothing but evoke a sense of confidence in it's efficacy. Helthra Vaccine. or Elivion ,
    Excela 3000. Fortis.
Well at least they did not name it The Volga . I know I want to test drive a vaccine named the Volga almost as much as I would want to take a ride on the Sputnik.

^Why the whole world (incl. the Greeks) does not use the English sounding names only?

The Russians use names (e.g. Sputnik) from her Cold War Era. Not like others something more peaceful like Apollo...

^ You can communicate in English (kind of), but you don't understand it.

    Meanwhile:

The health ministry here in NZ announced today that 100.000 doses of Pfizer/BionTech vaccine are being left unused . . . because . . . who knows why.

Also in the 'who knows' basket - only 4/5ths of frontline personnel have been vaccinated . . . and sportsmen/women are getting their jabs.

Still . . . 100.000 unused? NZ sits at 103rd out of 126 nations in vaccinations. I believe the rest are in Africa.

You just cannot make this shit up, its like the UK is getting dragged back to the middle ages with these idiots.

Vaccine during Ramadan will not break fast, leading Muslim NHS workers say

Leading Muslim doctors have urged people observing Ramadan to continue to get the Covid-19 vaccine during the religious period, underlining that the injection will not break their fast.

NHS staff and religious figures called on Muslims to continue to attend vaccine appointments during daylight hours.

Ramadan will take place between 12 April and 12 May, with fasting Muslims abstaining from food and drink during daylight hours.

Experts also allayed concerns about taking painkillers during fasting hours if experiencing potential side-effects after vaccination, explaining that they did not count as nutrition and are permitted.
