    Good News.

Moderna said Monday it will request emergency clearance from the Food and Drug Administration for its coronavirus vaccine after new data confirms the vaccine is more than 94% effective in preventing Covid-19 and was safe.

Moderna will be the second drugmaker to seek emergency use from the FDA after Pfizer, another front-runner in the Covid-19 vaccine race, applied for the same authorization on Nov. 20. The announcement means some Americans could get the first doses of Moderna’s two-dose vaccine within a few weeks.

The new analysis from Moderna evaluated 196 confirmed Covid infections among the late-stage trial’s 30,000 participants. The company said 185 cases of Covid were observed in the placebo group versus 11 cases observed in the group that received its vaccine. That resulted in an estimated vaccine efficacy of 94.1%, the company said.

    The company
released Nov. 16 an early analysis of its phase three trial based on just 95 Covid-19 cases that showed its vaccine was at least 94% effective. Monday’s data provides a more complete picture of the vaccine’s effectiveness.

It also appears to prevent volunteers from getting severely sick from the virus. Of the 30 severe cases of Covid-19 in the trial, none were in the group that received the vaccine, Moderna said. Additionally, there was one Covid-19 related death in the study that occurred in the placebo group, according to the company.

Shares of Moderna were up more than 12% in premarket trading Monday.

You would like to think countries are talking to each other about how they are going to certify individuals as having received what vaccine.

If they did this now they could actually start allowing international travel with greatly reduced risk right from the off.

Obviously they are going to want something that can't be easily counterfeited.

Funny how only the poor slobs have to test this low grade vaccine......

Batch of Russian Sputnik V anti-COVID vaccine to be supplied to Serbia by weekend

It ia a pilot batch of 20 vaccine doses

BELGRADE/MOSCOW, November 30. /TASS/. A pilot batch of the Russian Sputnik V anti-coronavirus vaccine will be supplied to Serbia by the end of the current week, the press service of the Serbian government said on Monday after Prime Minister Ana Brnabic’s online talks with Russian Minister of Industry Denis Manturov.
"Today Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic spoke in the videoconference mode with Russian Minister of Industry Denis Manturov who told her about the progress in the production of the Sputnik V anti-coronavirus vaccine. Manturov confirmed that a batch of 20 vaccine doses will be supplied to Serbia for laboratory control by the end of the current week," it said.
"Branbic said that the Serbian government and president are working to ensure the access to the vaccine for people in Serbia the soonest possible. She stressed that goal is to guarantee that people could choose a vaccine in line with the recommendations of Serbian medical institutions," the press service noted. "The prime minister added that Serbia is interested in looking at possible joint production of the anti-COVID vaccine."
Meanwhile, the Russian ministry of industry said that Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, senior officials from the Russian health ministry, the Russian Direct Investment Fund, the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology and senior Serbian government officials took part in the talks.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on August 11 he was ready to be the first to test the Russian anti-coronavirus vaccine "when Serbian specialists say it is good." On November 12, he said his country had agreed on the purchase of 1.8 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine and was negotiating possible purchase of vaccines from China and Russia.
On August 11, Russia registered the world’s first vaccine against the novel coronavirus. The vaccine, dubbed Sputnik V, was developed by the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Health Ministry, and its clinical trials were successfully completed in June-July. The Russian health ministry said on August 15 that production of the vaccine had been launched. The third, post-registration, stage of clinical tests began in Moscow on September 7. Volunteers were inoculated with the first dose of the vaccine on September. As many as 40,000 people are involved in the trials, with 10,000 of them being inoculated with a placebo.
According to the interim test results, the vaccine’s efficiency exceeds 95% on the 42nd day after inoculation with the first dose in case the patient received the second dose as well.

Orders for more than 1.2 billion doses of the Sputnik V vaccine have come from more than 50 countries. International partners of the Russian Direct Investment Fund in India, Brazil, China, South Korea and other countries will manufacture the vaccine for exports.

    Big news.

The UK has become the first Western country to grant emergency authorisation of the COVID-19 vaccine created by Germany’s BioNTech (BNTX) in partnership with US pharma giant Pfizer (PFE).

The Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency decision is “based on a rolling submission, including data from the Phase 3 clinical study, which demonstrated a vaccine efficacy rate of 95%,” the companies said in a press announcement.

“The Government has today accepted the recommendation from the independent Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency to approve Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for use,” the government said.
“The vaccine will be made available across the UK from next week.”

No need to, the WSJ prints some previously known occurrences yesterday.

Covid-19 Likely in U.S. in Mid-December 2019, CDC Scientists Report

New analysis of blood donations finds virus was present on West Coast earlier than previously believed

"She is a member of the team of Journal reporters awarded the 1999 Pulitzer Prize in the international reporting category for in-depth analytical coverage.

She has won awards for stories on public health issues, including drug-resistant tuberculosis and maternity care in the rural U.S."

No mention of any medical qualifications though.

"The new coronavirus infected people in the U.S. in mid-December 2019, a few weeks before it was officially identified in China and about a month earlier than public health authorities found the first U.S. case, according to a government study published Monday.

The findings significantly strengthen evidence suggesting the virus was spreading around the world well before public health authorities and researchers became aware, upending initial thinking about how early and quickly it emerged.

Scientists at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found evidence of infection in 106 of 7,389 blood donations collected by the American Red Cross from residents in nine states across the U.S., according to the study published online in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases.

The scientists based their study on blood samples that the American Red Cross collected between Dec. 13 and Jan. 17 and later sent to the CDC for testing to see if any had antibodies to the new coronavirus, which is named SARS-CoV-2.

“SARS-CoV-2 infections may have been present in the U.S. in December 2019, earlier than previously recognized,” the authors wrote.

^^ Saw that on the news last night. I’ve probably mentioned this before, but last December both my mother and I caught the ‘flu.’ After a few days of horrendous fatigue and coughing, my mother said she thought she was going to die because it was difficult to breathe. She was taken to a quick care clinic where she was given a breathing treatment and antiviral injections. She took a test but they could not identify the flu. The MD said he didn’t know what malady she had. We have suspected since then that it was the ‘rona we had.

Yes, if you read the links the fucking chinkies had an "influenza virus" in two other cities in Hubei in EARLY DECEMBER but covered it up.

Sounds like the chinkies could have stopped this getting to Wuhan if they weren't such c u n t s.

@misskit - the Chinese whistleblower doctor who died, Dr. Li Wen Liang, was "invited" to the police station around late November, I think. (if I remember correctly) He & his colleagues have noticed Sars-like symptoms among their patients in November last year. Since there were no travel restrictions, then asymptomatic people could have carried/ spread it to different parts of the world from Wuhan.

I remember watching the YouTuber "serpentza" in January / February and he warned his viewers against this new virus. Nobody knew then that it would cause a pandemic. I remember hearing about Dr Li from him, prior to being reported by news outlets. He lived in China for several years and his Chinese wife was a doctor - has contacts in the medical field. They (he + wife) now live in the US.

-COVID-19 was circulating in Italy from September 2019, according to a study by the Italian National Cancer Institute.
-Italy’s first official COVID-19 case was detected on February 21st.
-The new study which re-examined samples from a lung cancer screening trial between September 2019 and March 2020, suggests otherwise.
-It showed that of the 959 healthy volunteers enrolled in the trial, 11% had developed coronavirus antibodies well before February.
-A study by the University of Siena also supports this theory.
-The new coronavirus was circulating in Italy since September 2019, a study by the National Cancer Institute (INT) of the Italian city of Milan shows, signaling that COVID-19 might have spread beyond China earlier than previously thought.

-The World Health Organization has said the new coronavirus and COVID-19, the respiratory disease it causes, were unknown before the outbreak was first reported in Wuhan, in central China, in December.

Study Suggests Possible New COVID-19 Timeline in the U.S.
    December 01, 2020

The following statement regarding the publication of “Serologic testing of U.S. blood donations to identify SARS-CoV-2-reactive antibodies: December 2019-January 2020,” in the Clinical Infectious Diseases journal may be attributed to Dr. Susan Stramer, vice president of Scientific Affairs at the American Red Cross:

“The American Red Cross provides about 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply and has played a critical role in helping to battle the coronavirus pandemic, as well as other public health emergencies through the decades.

A study by the American Red Cross and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), entitled “Serologic testing of U.S. blood donations to identify SARS-CoV-2 reactive antibodies: December 2019-January 2020,” was recently published in the Clinical Infectious Diseases journal. This study aimed to determine when the virus might have first appeared in the United States by using archived samples from routine blood donations collected by the Red Cross. The non-identifiable blood samples used in the study—from donors in nine states between Dec. 13, 2019 and Jan. 17, 2020—demonstrate one way that blood donation helps scientific research.

In the U.S., the first COVID-19 infection was reported on January 19, 2020 in a traveler returning from China. These study results show that it’s possible COVID-19 may have been present in the U.S. in December 2019, earlier than previously recognized.

The findings of this study indicate that that it is possible the virus that causes COVID-19 may have been present in California, Oregon, and Washington as early as Dec. 13-16, 2019, and in Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin as early as Dec. 30, 2019 - Jan. 17, 2020. Although researchers at the CDC found antibodies that reacted to the virus in blood donations from all nine states that were part of this study, the percentage of blood samples with these antibodies was very low—indicating the virus was not widespread. All identifiable donor information was removed from blood donation samples prior to distribution to the CDC.

It is not possible to determine whether the potential SARS-CoV-2 infections suggested by this study may have been community- or travel-associated. A previous survey of blood donors, conducted to help understand travel practices, determined that less than 3% of respondents reported travel outside of the U.S. within the 28 days prior to donation, and of those reporting travel, only 5% traveled to Asia.

The tests used in this evaluation were designed to look for antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, rather than antibodies to other types of coronaviruses. However, there is some limited similarity between SARS-CoV-2 and other, more common coronaviruses, so cross reactivity cannot be completely ruled out. Nearly everyone over the age of five has had a common coronavirus infection and has antibodies against those viruses.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, blood donations have been critical to maintaining the health of communities and to help researchers identify, track and better understand this emerging virus. In fact, data from U.S. blood donation screenings have historically been used to help monitor the emergence of infectious disease agents, most recently the Zika virus.

The Red Cross adheres to the highest standards of safety and infection control, and blood donation remains an essential activity to help ensure patients continue to have access to lifesaving blood products. We understand the strain of this pandemic weighs heavily on everyone and we must continue to care for one another. If you are eligible and feeling well, please make an appointment today to give by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 800-RED-CROSS.”

COVID patient with sepsis makes 'remarkable' recovery following megadose of vitamin C

A young Australian man who was critically ill with COVID-19 and suffering early stages of blood poisoning made a remarkable recovery after being given massive doses of vitamin C, according to his doctors.

    Key points:

    • Sepsis is a common cause of death for people gravely ill with COVID-19
    • Researchers at the Florey Institute used megadoses of vitamin C to treat sepsis in animals
    • Doctors at Austin Hospital tried the technique on a critically ill patient, who then made a "remarkable" recovery

Professor Rinaldo Bellomo, director of Intensive Care at Melbourne's Austin Health, said the 40-year-old's health had started to deteriorate significantly from COVID-19, with the man losing kidney function, and his blood pressure plummeting.

Sepsis — or blood poisoning — was starting to take hold of his body and time was running out.

"We were dealing with somebody who was very unwell. We felt we were in a very difficult situation, and the patient's life was under serious threat," he said.

Professor Bellomo knew researchers at the Florey Institute had some promising experimental findings using megadose vitamin C to treat sepsis.

With the family’s consent, doctors gave the patient the same treatment the Florey researchers had trialled in animals.
