The hospitals in Trat appear to functioning at their usual pace. My local clinic is running it's monthly mother and baby classes. The shops have food, and beer, the trees are growing and my wife eagerly awaits my return.

My ASQ bubble is intact this morning, as usual. Freedom to the infested world of Bangkok/Thailand is promised for 6 am tomorrow. Will there be a hiccup, who knows.

Long may yours and all TD members bubbles, of whatever construction, be effective and enjoyable.

I'm not sure what your waffling has to do with "RUSSIAN HOSPITALS FULL OF COVID PATIENTS DESPITE RUSSIA BEING THE FIRST TO "HAVE" A VACCINE".

Perhaps Sputnik has burned up in the atmosphere.

Hoho, you've probably already mentioned it but which country did you arrive from?

Just asking, a long stay tourist mate tried to go the embassy route in London, mentally and financially prepared for the ASQ, and finally gave up because they don't seem to know what's actually required. On another forum I read they don't want Brits anyway, so could be they were giving him the runaround.

Oh dear, can you imagine how much whackjob squealing there will be today?

"They are trying to silance the trewth!" etc.

(Reuters) - Alphabet Inc’s YouTube said on Wednesday it would remove videos from YouTube containing misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines, expanding its current rules against falsehoods and conspiracy theories about the pandemic.

The video platform said it would now ban any content with claims about COVID-19 vaccines that contradict consensus from local health authorities or the World Health Organization.

YouTube said in an email that this would include removing claims that the vaccine will kill people or cause infertility, or that microchips will be implanted in people who receive the vaccine.

Gates was somewhere on Youtube claiming that vaccine progress is positive but exaggerated, nothing new there, and not even the world's new normal will arrive before the end of 2021, nothing new there either.

Pointless clip actually, unless you dote on him.

Word has it [from the scientists, not politicians] that the number of testing completed vaccines [US, UK, China] might be available for world distribution by the late first quarter/early second quarter of 2021 - May? June...?? Supposedly, two doses, per individual, in two months time. Gonna take a while to vaccinate the world's population - if ever.

In the interim, the Cooties is still out there, doing what it does.
I would imagine that such protocols [face coverings, distancing, crowds, etc] might still be the norm well into 2020.

The real problem with the possible vaccine(s) in the rushed timeline, justified by the damage done, is that possible underlying long-term problems that may well exist could be missed. For those interested here is an article which details mistakes made in vaccines in the past.

Historical Safety Concerns | Vaccine Safety | CDC

The other logistical problem, mentioned earlier, of how many or what percentage of the world's population must be inoculated to actually impact Covid infection rates - well, remedying Covid will take a long time, years if not decades.

London, England, via Dubai. As I've said a ME transit route is not advised. LHR to DXB 20% full, DXB to BKK 100+% full. Many retuning Asians from DXB.

I get the impression that the availability of the new super Tourist visa is determined by the Thai government/Tourism agency. The criteria is not only demand from foreign countries citizens but i suspect also the countries virus control performance/standing. Those with few new indigenous cases would be rated as a more suitable tourist source, than those still struggling or even getting worse.

I did contact the London embassy mid September and they replied that that were waiting for "clarification" and those desiring one would be placed on a contact list.

I assume, eventually they will make a statement on their website.

PS 10 hours to my release.

Let's hope the chinkies don't fuck this one up or we'll all be shitting ourselves.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to ravage many parts of the world, researchers have been working hard to develop a safe and effective vaccine that could bring life back a bit closer to normal. Of course, the development of a vaccine and the good it could do for humanity assumes that another, separate strain of the virus isn’t poised to make a jump to humans and start the process all over again.

Now, researchers are warning that a type of coronavirus seen in pigs may indeed be capable of jumping to humans, and if it does, it could cause even more problems. It’s called SADS-CoV, which is short for “Swine Acute Diarrhea Syndrome Coronavirus” and, yeah, it’s as bad as it sounds.

As you might have gathered from the virus’s name, the SADS-CoV virus infects pigs, but it originated in bats. It’s been found in China, and it appears to be taking a similar route to the virus that causes COVID-19. Humans and pigs are shockingly close when it comes to genetics, making it easier for a virus to jump from pigs to humans.

One of the biggest differences between the two viruses is that SADS-CoV produces symptoms related to the gastrointestinal tract rather than the respiratory system. That doesn’t necessarily make it any less dangerous, however, as loss of fluid leading to dehydration and even malnutrition can arise from a mammal not being able to keep food down and expelling it rapidly. As a result, the new virus could be even more dangerous in many instances.

    The researchers explain:

The emergence of new human and animal coronaviruses demand novel strategies that characterize the threat potential of newly discovered zoonotic strains. We synthetically recovered recombinant wild-type and derivative swine acute diarrhea syndrome coronaviruses (SADS-CoVs) that express indicator genes and characterized their growth, macromolecular biosynthesis, and replication efficiency in a variety of mammalian cell lines, including primary human cells. The data demonstrate that SADS-CoV has a broad host range and has inherent potential to disseminate between animal and human hosts, perhaps using swine as an intermediate species.

Tracking the path that viruses take from the animal world to humans can be difficult. Early on in the coronavirus pandemic scientists considered everything from bats, marine life, to pangolins as possible routes of transmission. In the case of SADS-CoV, it seems clear that if the virus is going to make the jump, it’s going to do so from pigs.

What’s particularly interesting about this other virus is that it seems to respond well to drugs that are currently being used to treat COVID-19, like remdesivir.

“Promising data with remdesivir provides a potential treatment option in the case of a human spillover event,” Caitlin Edwards, lead author of the research,
said in a statement. “We recommend that both swine workers and the swine population be continually monitored for indications of SADS-CoV infections to prevent outbreaks and massive economic losses.”
A new coronavirus that could be even more dangerous was just discovered in China – BGR

A Russian disinformation campaign designed to undermine and spread fear about the Oxford University coronavirus vaccine has been exposed by a Times investigation.

Pictures, memes and video clips depicting the British-made vaccine as dangerous have been devised in Russia and middlemen are now seeking to “seed” the images on social media networks around the world.

The crude theme of the distorted images is that the vaccine, millions of doses of which will be manufactured by the pharmaceutical giant Astrazeneca, could turn people into monkeys because it uses a chimpanze virus as vector.
The campaign is being targeted as countries where Russia wants to sell its own Sputnik-V vaccine, as well as western nations.

    - Misinformation is an obvious risk to public health. I appeal to everyone to use credible sources of information, to trust regulators and to remember how vaccines and medicines help humanity, says Pascal Soriot, CEO of Astra Zeneca.

It's baldy orange cunto. Do you not know he's as thick as shit?

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday it was possible the United States would have a coronavirus vaccine before the Nov. election, a far more optimistic forecast than timing put forth by his own White House health experts.

Asked on the Geraldo Rivera radio program when a vaccine might be ready, Trump said, “Sooner than the end of the year, could be much sooner.

“Sooner than November 3?” he was asked.

“I think in some cases, yes possible before, but right around that time,” Trump said.

    Hail Andy Burnham!

    King of the North!

Boris Johnson says the spread of coronavirus in Greater Manchester is "grave" and he may "need to intervene" if new measures are not agreed.

The prime minister urged mayor Andy Burnham to "engage constructively" with the government over the region entering "very high" tier three measures.

He said the situation was worsening "with every passing day".

Mr Burnham has called the tougher rules "flawed and unfair" and wants more financial support for people affected.

Measures under tier three include pub closures and a ban on household mixing indoors, in private gardens and in most outdoor venues. Liverpool City Region is currently England's only region in this very high alert level.

Lancashire has agreed to move into tier three from Saturday with a financial support package worth £42m. Around 1.5 million people, including those living in Blackburn, Blackpool, Burnley, Lancaster and Preston, will be affected by the new rules.

Speaking at a Downing Street briefing on Friday, Mr Johnson said he understood the "reluctance" of local leaders to put the region under tougher restrictions and said it would be "far from a pain-free course of action".

He warned: "Of course, if agreement cannot be reached I will need to intervene in order to protect Manchester's hospitals and save the lives of Manchester's residents.

"But our efforts would be so much more effective if we work together."

Revealing that a deal had not been reached between No 10 and the region's leaders, Mr Johnson said time was "of the essence" for action to be taken.

"Each day that passes before action is taken means more people will go to hospital, more people will end up in intensive care and tragically more people will die," he said.

Mr Burnham told a news conference on Thursday that local leaders were "unanimously opposed" to the introduction of "flawed and unfair" tier three rules and the region would "stand firm" against government plans.

The PM said he wanted to avoid another national lockdown "if at all possible" amid calls for a circuit-breaker - a short, limited lockdown - across the country.

He said he disagreed with those who argued in favour of a national lockdown "instead of targeted local action", insisting: "Closing businesses in Cornwall where transmission is low will not cut transmission in Manchester".

Mr Johnson said that while he could not "rule anything out", he wanted to avoid a national lockdown because of "the damaging health, economic and social effects it would have".

The PM also revealed that the UK is developing the capacity to manufacture millions of new fast turnaround tests for coronavirus - with some saliva tests able to deliver results in 15 minutes.

He said distribution and trials of the tests would start over "the next few weeks" and would enable NHS and care home staff to be tested "more frequently".

Schoolchildren and university students would also be able to be tested, he said, to help keep education "open safely over the winter".

Meanwhile, the latest government figures showed there were 15,650 new cases reported on Friday, bringing the total to 689,257.

There were a further 136 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test, bringing the total to 43,429.

On Thursday, London, Essex, York and parts of Surrey, Derbyshire and Cumbria were moved up to tier two and will face tougher measures from Saturday.

More than half of England's population will now be living under high or very high-alert restrictions.

Given that the death rate is variously reported as between 2 and 5%, it would seem that the measures adopted are simply extending the duration of the virus?
If the low percentage of deaths are recorded accurately, mostly in vulnerable groups, the rest of society will have mild symptoms, or be asymptomatic. That’s 95% in the worst case scenario.
Restricting their positive contribution to society, seems counterintuitive.
I advocate letting the virus burn its self out and accept the lower death toll. (I’m in the vulnerable group, by age, health and location btw)
The NHS in UK is now in a better condition to cope, with back up facilities available, but unused.
Sooner or later, the economy will have to be given greater priority to recover, and let the NHS go back to reducing waiting lists for serious conditions, and elective surgery.

I would say the measures are intended to keep ICU's from being overloaded as is happening in various parts of the world.

And also it is not about "extending the duration of the virus" as much as minimising its impact until a vaccine is available in sufficient quantities to achieve Herd Immunity.

Again, in case you missed it, protecting the vulnerable is a not considered a viable option as scientists have pointed out that in many cases it is impossible to identify who the vulnerable actually are.

The virus has been killing people without high risks conditions and of all ages.

The 40 millionth identified case will arrive this weekend.

The US is back at the top of the daily new cases chart, primarily because of the complete lack of a coherent national strategy to contain it. No surprise with that demented fucking chimp in charge.

    Oh.

The Department of Disease Control has advised the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) to reduce the quarantine period for returnees from 14 to 10 days.
The department will formally submit the recommendation to the CCSA's sub-committee tasked to oversee quarantining at a meeting next week.
The sub-committee then will forward the advice to the main body of the CCSA which will make a decision by the end of this month.
If the CCSA approves the recommendation, the new quarantine duration is expected to be implemented next month, according to Dr Opas Karnkawinpong, director-general of the DDC.
Quarantine for Covid may be cut to 10 days
