Unwilling to see wearing a face mask and washing their fucking hands isn't the government taking away their rights, that it's their responsibility to their fellow citizens about whom they clearly don't give a shit.

Don't be an idiot all your life sqwiril, take a day off! Wearing a mask is not an infringement of rights, even those with lower intelligence than you on a really bad day should realise there's a lot of dead people around that wouldn't be dead without the virus, figure wearing a mask is better than not wearing one, and imho privileged fools that stand on their right to risk infection and transmission should be put away for the general good.

Not often that I support our glorious Thai leaders, but I can live with decrees like wear a mask or be nicked.

Here's a tough one that most normal people could answer with a simple yes or no: do you wear a mask in public?

    Yep.

In a Thai province which currently is and has been virus free, I want to keep it so.

Sometimes if I forget it, I even return to the truck to fetch it. One has to set a high standard, being one of the few foreigners locally and the fact that they all know where I live.

Yes, I wear a mask in public.

In the PI: for most areas, especially in/ near metropolis, face masks, temp checks & hand sanitizers are the norm.

In many places, including public transport: no mask, no entry. If you violate the rules, you'll be arrested & asked to kneel in the hot sun or placed in dog cages (esp during the start of the lockdown). I think there were pics of that in the "how has CV affected you" thread in the lounge.

Went to a bank last week - needed to transact with an officer/ customer service. Plexiglas barrier on employee's table. She also wore a face shield & mask. Temp check before entering, contact tracing form filled out & given to guard before leaving the bank.

Some supermarkets/ pharmacies have placed plastic sheets to separate the cashiers from the customer (if establishment can't afford Plexiglas). It's the new normal. Many ppl here don't want to get ill because no money = no treatment.

PI health system is weak, esp in public hospitals - underequipped & understaffed. Many nurses prefer to work in foreign countries because of better pay.

Many of the new cases in the provinces are from individuals stranded in Metro Manila who were allowed to go home in June (and didn't quarantine properly upon return to their hometowns).

...how about a big cup of schadenfreude this morning?...

Gohmert confirms COVID-19 diagnosis and wonders whether wearing a mask may have led to infection

    Dylan Stableford Senior Writer
    July 30, 2020, 2:45 AM

Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas. (Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images)Rep. Louie Gohmert on Wednesday confirmed that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and wondered aloud whether wearing a mask may have led to his infection.

The Texas Republican, who has often voiced skepticism over the value of wearing face coverings, also disputed reports that he was not wearing a mask on Capitol Hill, despite evidence to the contrary.

In a video message posted to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon, Gohmert said he “can’t help but wonder” if he contracted the virus from adjusting his mask with his hands to fit properly.

“It is interesting, and I don’t know about everybody, but when I have a mask on, I’m moving it to make it comfortable,” he said. “And I can’t help but wonder if that put some germs in the mask.”

Gohmert was tested at the White House early Wednesday before he was due to accompany President Trump on a trip to Texas. News of his positive test was first reported by Politico.

“Reports of my demise are a great deal premature,” Gohmert said. “I went to the White House today, but before you go into the White House they test you with the quick test, and it tested positive. But they get false positives sometimes, so they retested me with the swab that goes way up in your sinuses, and it finally came back. It was positive too.

“I’m asymptomatic,” he continued. “I don’t have any of the symptoms that are listed as part of COVID-19. But apparently I have the Wuhan virus.”
Gohmert said that Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., who tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this year, texted to tell him that “in 10 days I should be very well immune” to the virus.

He also disputed reports that he wasn’t wearing a mask at Tuesday’s House Judiciary Committee hearing.

“I’ve worn a mask more the last week or two than I have in the last whole four months,” Gohmert said. “And I was wearing my mask at the Judiciary hearing.”
But he was seen at various points during the hearing without a face covering, and on video walking behind Attorney General William Barr in the hall without one.
Justice Department spokeswoman Kerri Kupec said that Barr, who testified for more than four hours before the panel, would be tested for COVID-19 Wednesday.
“Now that I apparently have it,” Gohmert added, “I will be very, very careful to make sure I don’t give it to anybody else, and we’ll see how it goes.”

...the gift that keeps on giving...

The Doctor Promoting Fake COVID Cures Also Thinks Demon Sex Causes Endometriosis

    BY HEMANT MEHTA

    patheos.com
    JULY 28, 2020

Conservative media outlets, and Donald Trump, have spent the past couple of days pushing a video in which a group of doctors promote dangerous conspiracies about COVID-19 during an event funded by right-wing donors. The star of that video, which has now been deleted from Facebook and Twitter (but only after finding millions of viewers) was Stella Immanuel.
Immanuel says in the video that she successfully used hydroxychloroquine to treat patients… even though no credible study has found the drug to be useful in dealing with COVID. She also says face masks are unnecessary.
But the Daily Beast notes that Immanuel says a lot of things that ought to be ignored…

Immanuel, a pediatrician and a religious minister, has a history of making bizarre claims about medical topics and other issues. She has often claimed that gynecological problems like cysts and endometriosis are in fact caused by people having sex in their dreams with demons and witches.

She alleges alien DNA is currently used in medical treatments, and that scientists are cooking up a vaccine to prevent people from being religious. And, despite appearing in Washington, D.C. to lobby Congress on Monday, she has said that the government is run in part not by humans but by “reptilians” and other aliens.

She may be a doctor, but she’s not a scientist, and she’s certainly not capable of critical thinking.

She’s also rabidly anti-gay, saying that “practicing and celebrating [homosexuality] will take you to hell”She also said yesterday that Facebook would be destroyed by God if the video wasn’t restored. (Facebook is doing just fine as of this writing.)

You have to wonder why the same people who are so quick to reject the advice of scientists who study infectious diseases for a living are so quick to accept the claims of a random primary care physician who isn’t a specialist in this area. Or you don’t have to wonder. Conspiracy theorists will always embrace anybody who says what they want to hear, regardless of that person’s lack of qualifications.

But it’s one thing when random internet trolls promote utter nonsense that also happens to be harmful. It’s another when conservative “news” sites promote the video as if it’s worth hearing. And it’s downright irresponsible when the president is suggesting people should take her seriously. But what else would you expect from the sort of people who continue to back the Republican Party?

So, let me get this straight.

She is judged by the internet to be a moron while presidents of Unites States put their collective hands on the book of fairy tales and fables proclaiming "so help me God".

From all i saw today, most of the time the fucktard was not even wearing a mask. When he did wear ssomething it was a doubled over bandana that the fucktard would not stop fiddling with. Not a real mask.

Now, i generally do not wish ill upon people, but i do kinda wish one of the trump inner circle would get it full on. Like the whole shebang. Maybe some fucker close to him dying of it would focus the orange cunto a bit.

Herman Cain Dies From Coronavirus at 74

Herman Cain — the maverick American business czar and Republican presidential candidate who campaigned for a sweeping tax reform plan called 9-9-9 — died Thursday morning after a monthlong battle with the coronavirus. He was 74.

Cain, who recently joined Newsmax TV and was set to launch a weekly show, died in an Atlanta-area hospital where he had been critically ill for several weeks.

He was admitted on July 1, two days after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

Ten days before, Cain had attended a rally for President Donald Trump in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
But it is not known for sure where Cain, chair of Black Voices for Trump, was infected. He had been on a whirlwind travel schedule in June, stopping in multiple cities.

    COVID SPIKES IN MANCHESTER

Separate households are banned from meeting indoors from today in Greater Manchester, East Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire after a rise in coronavirus cases.

The news comes after the UK saw its highest daily total of COVID-19 cases for more than a month.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned the virus was "bubbling up" in up to 30 areas across the UK.

    The order covers:

All of Greater Manchester: Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan
East Lancashire: Pendle, Hyndburn, Burnley, Rossendale and Blackburn with Darwen
West Yorkshire: Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees
The city of Leicester, which saw the UK's first local lockdown

It means people in these areas will not be permitted to mix with other households (apart from those in their support bubbles) in private homes or gardens.

Some exemptions will be put in place, including for the vulnerable.

The government will sign new regulations to make these changes legally enforceable.

It's normally family visits, so yes.

The Middle East had a huge surge after the last Eid, and they are twitching nervously about this one as well.

Thailand ranked number one on the Global COVID-19 Recovery Index
    By Pattaya Mail
    July 31, 2020

    The COVID-2019 Thread-t-02-thailand-ranked-number-one

The Kingdom comes in first out of 184 nations worldwide for its effective handling of the virus.

Thailand has ranked number one in the world out of 184 countries for its ongoing COVID-19 recovery effort, according to the Global COVID-19 Index (GCI).

Published on 28 July, Thailand received an index score of 82.06, putting it on top of the global chart as an example of best practices in tackling the ongoing global pandemic.

As of today, the number of confirmed cases in Thailand stood at 3,298, with 129 currently being treated, while 3,111 have recovered and 58 have died.

South Korea ranked second with a recovery index of 81.09, followed by Latvia (80.81), Malaysia (79.37), Taiwan (78.94) and New Zealand (78.55). Australia, which used to be number one in previous months, fell to sixth, with a recovery index of 77.18.

In the previous GCI ranking published on 14 June, Thailand came in second for its COVID-19 recovery work among 184 nations across the globe.

The GCI bases 70 per cent of its calculation on big data and daily analysis from 184 countries, while the other 30 per cent comes from the Global Health Security Index, an assessment of global health security in 195 countries prepared by the Johns Hopkins Centre for Health Security in the United States. It must stick in the craw of Seeking and Tax, but Thailand has done a brilliant job.

Shutting the borders, shutting all but essential services, and restricting the freedom of movement was the best way.

Of course an intelligent populace that understands helps, and not millions of morons that get butthurt over their freedom and liberty being disrupted.

Vietnam has recorded its first Covid-19 fatality, in a devastating blow for a country proud of its zero deaths.

The 70-year-old man was from the central city of Hoi An, state media said on Friday.

No new infections had been reported for more than three months before an outbreak was reported in the nearby resort of Da Nang earlier this week.

Vietnam, which has a population of around 95 million, has reported just 509 cases since the pandemic began.

Unlike many other countries, Vietnam acted before it even had confirmed cases, closing its borders early to almost all travellers, except returning citizens. Anyone entering the country must quarantine in government facilities for 14 days and undergo testing.

    And for a while,
this approach appeared to be highly effective, with no new local transmissions reported since mid-April.

The country received praise for both its timely efforts to contain the virus and for the care it was able to offer
a Scottish pilot who spent two months in a coma after developing Covid-19.
