Researchers are finding that people taking proton pump inhibitors are twice as likely to get COVID19 and have worse symptoms. Interesting article here, and helps show why the virus reacts so differently with different people.

    More retards.

(KUTV) — A Utah group has been organizing what they call flash mobs, where they show up to grocery stores without face masks.

The group “Defending Utah” has organized the demonstrations, and said they have plenty more planned for the future. Supporters who agree with their anti-mask message sign up on a phone list and get a text with the location of what store to meet at the day of the flash mob.

“In a world of masks, who is left to defend your rights?” That is the question asked in a YouTube video made by Defending Utah. The video shows one of their demonstrations where they walked into a store without face masks on.

“They’re going to do it again and again and again, every single Thursday,” the video goes on to say. “Now you don’t have to shop in fear.”

A spokesperson for Defending Utah, Scott Bradley, wouldn’t go on camera, but said the group sees mask requirements as an encroachment of their freedoms.

^ Reading through these posts just reinforces my belief that the average Joe is batshit crazy.

Meanwhile, back in Europe, companies are imposing their own rules regarding masks, distancing and travel bans. Several are also quoting force majeure as a cop-out from meeting obligations.

    THIS IS WRONG

Not bsnub reporting the news article, that's great ... and clearly the guy (in the clip) is a nutter but ...

The fact that the guy lost his job because of an opinion which had no relation to his work ... that's wrong.

I'm not an extension of my Employers Ideals/Mission Statement after I've clocked off.

Freedom of Speech is important, even if it goes against every opinion you hold.

It is not a freedom of speech issue.

    It is a HEALTH issue.

Besides which his company no doubt does not want to be represented by an arsehole.

^ ^^ Understand both comments but ... I believe that when you 'clock off' you are no longer and representative of the Company.

Imagine the outcry if a BLM matter protester was sacked for taking part in a protest.

What about a School Teacher in the US who is sacked for taking part in a protest that Trump will (almost force) Schools to re-open for the new School Year?

Most companies have a good behaviour clause somewhere in the contract. You agree to adhere to it when you sign.

30-year-old dies after attending 'Covid party' in Texas

A 30-year-old patient died after attending a ‘“Covid party”, believing the virus to be a hoax, a Texas medical official has said.

“Just before the patient died, they looked at their nurse and said ‘I think I made a mistake, I thought this was a hoax, but it’s not,’” said Dr Jane Appleby, the chief medical officer at Methodist hospital in San Antonio.

Appleby said: “I don’t want to be an alarmist, and we’re just trying to share some real-world examples to help our community realise that this virus is very serious and can spread easil

I had a quick look around the interwebby thing, and it comes over as very complicated. Certainly in the States there is quite a lot of protection in some states for off clock activities. However, whether the man can appeal his dismissal will depend upon what state he is in, and what was his exact contract. In other countries it seems to be generally that you are essentially never "off the clock" and you are always a representative of your company. Personally I know that my contract in Thailand has behaviour clauses in it.

It seems that the Deep South of the US is getting hit hardest by the virus at present, tragic, but given the fact that it was folk from this area who were literally trying shoot a hurricane a couple of years back, perhaps they aren't the best equipped to deal with a fast spreading disease. Can't blame them for being ill-educated - but Trump of course should be doing something about it.

You couldn't actually write this. Take the world's great superpower, stick a complete psycho at the helm, and introduce a pandemic that came from, quelle surprise, another superpower. Where this ends is anyone's guess.

One hopes all who have such viruses in their play book take heed and realise any use as a weapon is a lottery and may come back to bite them in the arse.

    Yup, Covid -

And, right now on the financial news channel the Dows up 1.6% S&P up 1.3% Nasdaq is setting new record high...

While, on the Covid front we have:
Florida shatters US record for new single-day Covid-19 cases
By Christina Maxouris and Holly Yan, CNN
    Updated 0217 GMT (1017 HKT) July 13, 2020

And, also on the financial news channel, we have the CEO of Trivago saying Florida is right now, the Number One destination for his clients...

Really a mind boggling situation - don't they watch the news?

Agreed, there is normally a clause about not bringing the company into disrepute. If you do something stupid and it makes it into the press you are generally legless...

It should have been enough to sack Dominic Cummings, but that's another story...

I think it will end with China coming out the other end damaged but relatively unscathed, and a lurch in the general direction of what was the trend anyway, toward China as the challenger; won't happen militarily within our lifetime, since full blown confrontation between the two is unlikely, so superior US toys are still prestigious but useless.

Seeing Russian Big Bear bombers flying over the states would not surprise me..... Like Rod Machado, (aviation expert) once said, "Reality is stranger than fiction, because fiction needs to make sense." Nothing today makes sense . . .

This guy makes baldy orange cunto sound like he tells the truth.

Florida’s exploding number of coronavirus cases has begun to stabilize, Gov. Ron DeSantis said Monday at a news conference where a heckler accused him of “doing nothing” about the pandemic.

“The percentage of people who are testing positive has finally started to decline,‘' he said at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. “We’ll see if that’s a trend or whether that was something that was short-lived. Certainly, we can say the percentage of people who come in and test positive has stabilized.”

Russia Eyes First Coronavirus Vaccine Launch in Mid-August

Russian scientists said Monday they hope the world’s first coronavirus vaccine will be distributed to patients as soon as next month after a medical university in Moscow said it completed clinical trials using human volunteers.

The Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University launched clinical trials of the potential Covid-19 vaccine on 38 paid volunteers in June. Around the same time, Russia’s military began a parallel two-month clinical trial of the same vaccine developed by the state-run Gamalei National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology.

The Gamalei center's head Alexander Gintsburg told the state-run TASS news agency that he hopes the vaccine will “enter civil circulation” on Aug. 12-14. He added that he hopes private companies would begin mass production by September.

It would be nice, but I'd like to see it tested on Putin first.

CNN’s analysis is based on Johns Hopkins figures as of 4 a.m. ET today. The data for “Latin America and the Caribbean” includes the following countries: Brazil, Peru, Chile, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Bolivia, Panama, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Haiti, Paraguay, Nicaragua, Cuba, Uruguay and Jamaica.
