What the hell is wrong with some people.

    http://twitter.com/i/status/1263818537132531714

In the last few weeks a spate of American stores have made headlines after putting up signs telling customers who wear masks they will be denied entry. On Thursday, Vice reported on a Kentucky convenience store that put up a sign reading: “NO Face Masks allowed in store. Lower your mask or go somewhere else. Stop listening to [Kentucky governor Andy] Beshear, he’s a dumbass.”

Another sign was posted by a Californian construction store earlier this month encouraging hugs but not masks. In Illinois, a gas station employee who put up a similar sign has since defended herself, arguing that mask-wearing made it hard to differentiate between adults and children when selling booze and cigarettes.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump finally caved and wore a face mask yesterday – something he didn’t want to “give the press the pleasure of seeing”. But while it is gratifying to see the emperor finally forced to wear clothes, you’ve got to wonder to what extent the virus will spread thanks to the actions of citizens insisting on protecting their “freedom” over the right of others not to get sick.

Anti-lockdown protesters have argued that it is anti-American for the government to curtail people’s freedoms in order to reduce deaths as a result of Covid-19. Meanwhile, store owners tell customers what they can and cannot wear before entering, and customers cough in the faces of workers in the name of freedom.

I happen to agree that gun toting rednecks should not be allowed to wear masks. Or codpieces.

    Unfortunately, yeah.
This special quality is quite reflective of the continued [and unnecessary] growing numbers and their general mishandling/management of the mess.

As been mentioned before, appears to be a broader societal disposition thing associated with compounding political chaos.
One would have thought that they might've figured it out by now, as some sectors of the world have.
    Obviously not.

Must be something in the water.

I will agree that the Brit response has been a bit Monty Python-ish, but you are deluded if you think it is anywhere near the USA situation.

^ Unbelievable. Seriously. Academically, it is going to be interesting to see what happens when it is allowed to spread pretty much at will. Hopefully all the Americans that get it will realize that they are proving someones mathmetical model correct. , so its not all bad.

Just watching CNN and there are scenes of massive pool parties, packed beaches and basically a big "I don't give a fuck about Covid" scenario from a vast number of Americans.

I have always claimed time will tell about how serious this situation is and I guess I will find out sooner rather then later.

The health/medical folks are already preparing for the next great wave after the reopening where the greater percentage refuse to observe and practice the protocol of safety measures.
It will hit hard again in 2-3 weeks.

Another route to be adopted or not?

    Post-COVID Capitalism…

"I have now run a few companies. Over time, I have experienced a repeated epiphany; which is that you never realize which employees are useless until they go on a vacation and nothing bad happens. Now, this isn’t a dig at good employees; good ones find ways to delegate their responsibilities and still check their emails—great ones work harder while on vacation. However, the bad ones often vacation themselves out of a job—oddly, those are usually the ones who keep reminding me about how valuable they are. Ironic right?

    I bring this up because most employees just went on a 3-month forced vacation. As I speak with my friends, they’re all saying the same things;

    1. For 80% of employees, work from home went better than expected and my friends are now wondering why they need an office building and the associated expenses.

    2. For 20% of employees, it has been chaos and it seems silly to retain office space just to micro-manage these weaker employees.

    3. If they are going to run the business through Zoom meetings, why do they need expensive Americans when there’s some guy in Poland who will work harder for 10% of the price?

    Me: Wait…, what???
Him: Yeah. We can save a fortune by outsourcing. We have considered it in the past, but we thought we needed the communication and team-building of all being in the same place. Now, we’re re-thinking this.

Me: Have you ever managed people overseas?
Him: Yeah, we outsource a few projects today. Some work better than others, but we’re getting the hang of it. We intend to dramatically increase the percentage that is outsourced because we basically outsourced everything during COVID-19. Sure, it isn’t going to be perfect, but the savings more than justify it. We can then retain a few Americans who fix the mistakes. All we really need is for senior management to be American with a few guys in Admin to support management. More than half of our staff can be offshored.

    The COVID-2019 Thread-outsourcing-jpg

I have had this conversation a dozen times now in the past month. Rewinding a few decades; America outsourced its blue-collar manufacturing workforce and hobbled the middle class. The white-collar guys have sort of ignored this as everything at Costco got cheaper. However, there were big consequences along the way. Now I wonder if we are about to outsource a lot of the white-collar jobs too. That would be crippling for the economy.

Thinking of my expenses, I have always wondered why I spend a few hundred dollars an hour for a lawyer to review a document or regurgitate the securities laws. I have to think there’s someone overseas who can do this for a fraction of the cost. You don’t need a fancy degree to proofread a contract for me. I just need to know that you have all the facts and won’t make expensive mistakes. Fear of the unknown is all that held me back from finding a cheaper alternative. Many of my friends have said something similar.

“How will we know if our bookkeeping is done right if it is done in India?”

“Well, what’s the difference between India and having it done 20 miles from your office with a weekly Zoom meeting?”

Now, many of these offshoring experiments will fail. It takes a unique skill to manage people remotely and after a period of chaos, many of these jobs will stay in America, but many won’t. Much like the multi-decade process of outsourcing manufacturing, we’re about to have a similar process when it comes to office work and COVID-19 just dramatically accelerated it by removing the fear of remote work. Except, whereas manufacturing took decades to offshore, I wonder if office work is pushed offshore over only a few quarters.

    The COVID-2019 Thread-outsourcing-2-jpg

COVID-19 was a bad cold that global governments overreacted to. The ramifications of this error will be ricocheting around for long after we all take our masks off and go on with life. As I sit on the beach during my vacation and piece it all together, I realize that many people are focused on the first-order effects like restaurant seating capacity, while ignoring the much larger impacts. The world will never be the same after COVID-19. History says that a crisis accelerates changes that are already in motion. Look around you and think through the permutations. Our world will change dramatically as things open up. Is your portfolio prepared?"

    Post-COVID Capitalism... | AdventuresInCapitalism | Small Companies--Big Upside

The blue collar jobs went, the white collar jobs, apparently, can go .... when will the executive job locations be offshored.

What will we all do with our time and energies?

    Fucking morons.

The city of Houston can't handle a sudden surge of COVID-19 cases, the city's mayor warned as infections in the reopening state rise.

Mayor Sylvester Turner confirmed on Sunday that fire marshals would start to enforce health policies in place to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus in bars and clubs, which are only permitted to open to the public with 25 percent occupancy.

The mayor expressed disappointment after videos and images taken at local Memorial Day celebrations showed some businesses overcrowded, with many citizens appearing to ignore social distancing measures while lacking face coverings.

Texas has so far recorded more than 56,000 COVID-19 cases and 1,533 deaths. On May 23 there were more than 1,000 new cases, preceded by 928 on May 22, 1,258 on May 21 and 1,103 on May 20. May 15 saw over 1,800 infections in a single day.

In Harris County, where Houston is located, health service data shows there have been over 10,900 cases, the largest of any county in the state. But one new projection model suggested the region could see 2,000 daily new cases by June, KSAT reported.

"We're not equipped to handle that type of surge," Turner said. "We can take about 200 cases a day... with contact tracing and we're building up that program.

"There are still people who think it's a joke, and it's not a joke. Things have opened up. We're in stage two in the state of Texas so bars, restaurants, barber shops are open. [We're] nervous but we're going to do everything we can to manage the virus."

The chief of the Houston Fire Department, Samuel Peña, said yesterday that around 300 complaints of COVID-19-linked violations had been lodged since Friday.

Images and videos of packed-out bars, clubs and waterparks circulated on social media and news outlets over the weekend. "I see a lot of people, I don't see any masks," said chief of the Galveston Island Beach Patrol in Texas, Peter Davis, told CBSDFW.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott unveiled a second phase of a plan to reopen the economy last week. The U.S. is the worst affected country in the world, with more than 1.6 million cases recorded. The death toll is expected to surpass 100,000.

Under an executive order, Abbott said restaurants could increase their occupancy to 50 percent and bars could open at 25 percent occupancy from May 22. The occupancy limits do not apply to outdoor areas that ensure social distancing, he noted.

But not everyone in Houston had been listening, Houston's mayor said Sunday while stressing that he did not want to take a heavy-handed approach to enforcement.

There looks to be plenty of room in that picture, with people maintaining distance from those outside their family circle.

Reckon the photographer had a disappointing day there.

Very different from the Maryland pic.
