This is the heart of the problem. Everywhere in the news (although not being headlined or highlighted) is the problem of enforcement. First off, social isolation should not be presented as "curve flattening" but as the method to prevent yourself and your family from becoming infected.

Seems the general populations of people do not perceive the pandemic as a threat to themselves. Few are willing to discomfort themselves for the greater good of humankind.

Girl in my daughter's school year came back from Tenerife a couple of weeks back and didn't self isolate.
Her Granddad died of Covid19 today.

We know a whole family who didn't self isolate quick enough and sent their children to school, the same school my kids attend.
Their grandmother is now in hospital with Covid19.

    Anosmia and Dysgeusia Noted

Have Coronavirus and Can’t Smell? Harvard Scientists Explain Why
    By Jason Gale (Bloomberg)
    March 28, 2020, 4:40 PM GMT+7

    • Loss of smell and taste are “significant” Covid-19 symptoms
    • Virus may damage cells in the nasal epithelium, study finds

The coronavirus is capable of attacking key cells in the nose, which may explain the unusual finding that some Covid-19 sufferers lose their ability to smell and taste, Harvard Medical School researchers found.

Their study of human and mice genomic data found certain cells at the back of the nose harbor the distinctly shaped proteins that the coronavirus targets to invade the body. Infection of these cells could directly or indirectly lead to an altered sense of smell, they said in a paper published Saturday.

Doctors around the world are reporting anecdotal Covid-19 cases in which patients have experienced an abrupt and unexplained total or partial loss of smell and taste. The conditions, known medically as anosmia and dysgeusia, respectively, are “significant symptoms” associated with the pandemic, the American Academy of Otolaryngology, or head and neck surgery, said on March 22.

The group, based in Alexandria, Virginia, proposes that these symptoms be added to the list of screening tools for possible Covid-19 infection. People experiencing the symptoms in the absence of other known causes should consider self-isolation and get tested, the group said.

Inflammation in the nasal cavity triggered by the pandemic-causing infection may hinder the sense of smell, David Brann and Sandeep Robert Datta of the Harvard Medical School’s neurobiology department said. But it’s also possible the virus infects and damages cells in the nasal epithelium required for normal olfactory function.
Uncovering the cause of the sensory loss has important implications to support diagnosis and determine the effects of the disease, the researchers said.

“Furthermore, patients with persistent olfactory dysfunction are at risk of nutritional deficits, of injury due to the inability to smell ‘danger’ odors like smoke, gas and spoiled foods, and of developing psychiatric disorders, particularly depression,” they said.

That's really the whole problem with our situation isn't it? You just can't rely on others to do the right thing, damn humans.

So - here we go - solidly from the rumor mill as reported by a down the Soi neighbor.

First off - we are sheltering in place - only go out for food shopping - short trip one hour tops including travel time. Located in Nonthaburi province in a gated 300 house Moo Baan.

Now - Thailand has 1,388 confirmed cases (7 fatals) as per the Covid tracker this AM. Yesterday on Thai news saw that Nonthaburi (#2) listed with @ 75 confirmed cases, behind Bangkok (#1) with @ 800 confirmed cases. Phuket and Chon Buri also had double digit confirmed cases. Single and double digit confirmed cases scattered throughout the Kingdom.

Neighbor tells my wife that one of the families living in our Moo Baan, a family of 8 or 9 are suspected of having contracted the Covid bug. A couple of the families members had attended a Muay Thai match in Bangkok earlier this month that has had a few dozen positive Covid cases traced to the match. As per the neighbor the entire family was transported to a hospital for testing 2-3 days ago. 'tis all he knows.

So, good ole unconfirmed water cooler scuttlebutt - course, hope 'tis naught but an unconfirmed rumor. The area of the Moo Baan the family supposedly comes from has quite a few children who play together (or used to play together).

Be interesting to see if I get notice of the bleach spraying trucks dousing our Moo Baan in the near future.

i'm sitting here wondering whether PRP (Platelet Enriched Plasma) therapy would help those with weak or compromised immune systems overcome the disease and build immunity.

I have witnessed amazing results particularly for those that are elderly and have serious diseases.

Who remembers BCG? Who knew what it stood for?

The bacillus Calmette-Guerin, or BCG, shot has been used widely for about 100 years, with a growing appreciation for its off-target benefits. Not only is it a common immunotherapy for early-stage bladder cancer, it also seems to train the body’s first line of immune defense to better fight infections.

With an immunization specifically targeted against the pandemic-causing Covid-19 disease at least a year away, the World Health Organization says it’s important to know whether the BCG vaccine can reduce disease in those infected with the coronavirus, and is encouraging international groups to collaborate with a study led by Nigel Curtis, head of infectious diseases research, at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute in Melbourne.

“It can boost the immune system so that it defends better against a whole range of different infections, a whole range of different viruses and bacteria in a lot more generalized way,” said Curtis, who’s also a professor of pediatric infectious diseases at the
University of Melbourne and head of the infectious diseases unit at the city’s Royal Children’s Hospital.

The chinkies have taken the insane ramblings of some HoHo-like whackjob as an excuse to try and claim the virus came from a US cyclist.

They really are rather desperate to try and blame someone else for their bat-munching disaster.

Unfortunately the chinky site in question refuses to publish my comments about research into SARS-COV2 in the animal populations of chinky wet markets. What a fucking surprise.

The Chinese state-run newspaper Global Times has been accused of spreading an unfounded conspiracy theory that a U.S. military cyclist was the source of the novel coronavirus outbreak. On March 25, the English-language newspaper urged the U.S. to “release health and infection information of the US military delegation which came to Wuhan for the Military World Games in October.” This, claimed the newspaper, would “end the conjecture about US military personnel bringing COVID-19 to China.”

The newspaper said it was responding to claims made by a U.S. “investigative journalist” George Webb who is described by the New York Times as a “far-right YouTube conspiracy theorist.”

Webb claims that the novel coronavirus was manufactured in a U.S. military lab and brought to China by diplomatic driver
Maatje Benassi, a 52-year-old racing cyclist who was in Wuhan in October to take part in the Military World Games.

Webb’s claim—which Global Times admitted had been made “without strong evidence”—has been widely discussed in China, and is in addition to a claim made by foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian who told his 300,000 Twitter followers on March 12 that the virus could have been manufactured by the U.S. Army.

They seem to give out the stats at an odd hour - Noon - leaving the rest of the day for more people to get infected.

Thailand saw 136 new coronavirus cases on Monday, raising the total number of infections to 1,524, said the spokesman of the government's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

Infections in Thailand are likely to keep rising, and recently new cases have been reported more in the provinces than in the Thai capital, Bangkok, spokesman Taweesin Wisanuyothin said.

No new deaths were reported, and the overall death toll stood at seven since the outbreak began in January.

    They've closed Phuket.

Well, they think they have anyway. It will probably turn Phuket into an Andaman Diamond Princess.

PHUKET: Police and administrative officials have closed the Tha Chat Chai checkpoint in tambon Mai Khao of Thalang district at midnight, preventing people from entering or leaving this island resort province, to combat the spread of Covid-19.
The closure was in compliance with order No 11/2020 issued by Phuket governor Pakkapong Taweepat on Sunday.
The exceptions to the closure are vehicles transporting food and essential items - fuel, construction materials, medical equipment - rescue vehicles, ambulances and vehicles for state operations.
Under the same order, people and all kinds of ships are also banned from entering and leaving the province via its international ports, except cargo ships, whose crews must stay onboard.
The ban is effective from March 30-April 30.
When the ban was announced on Sunday evening people from other provinces staying in Phuket began a rush to leave the island via the Tha Chat Chai checkpoint, and Phuket people outside the province hurried to get home before midnight.
After midnight, barricades were placed across the road leading to the checkpoint and police and local officials manned the blockade.
A group of returning Phuket people who arrived shortly afterwards were denied entry. They protested that the ban was enforced so suddenly they had no time to arrive before the deadline.
Supot Roddee, deputy Phuket governor, explained to them the ban was an emergency order made necessary by the increasing number of Covid-19 infections.
Following talks, they were allowed through after having their temperatures taken.

Coronavirus Australia live updates: Prime Minister Scott Morrison announces $130 billion wage subsidy package

Australians face heavy penalties including on-the-spot fines if they are caught flouting new bans that will come into effect tonight.

A series of new restrictions will take effect across the country from midnight tonight.

Indoor and outdoor meetings will be limited to a maximum of two people, with a few exceptions.

People have been urged to stay home unless shopping for essentials; leaving for medical or compassionate care; exercising outdoors while distancing; or if they must work or study and can’t do so from home.

The JobKeeper payments will be available to full-time workers, part-time workers, sole traders and casual workers who have been with their employer for 12 months or more.

Businesses will be required to keep the employee on their books in order to distribute the payment.

It will be a flat-rate of $1500 per fortnight for each employee, with employers able to add extra payments on top of this if they wish.

The money equates to 70 per cent of the national median wage.

For workers in the accommodation, hospitality and retail sectors, it will equate to a full median replacement wage.

Well, no notice provided, two pickup trucks making the rounds, Driver with two workers decked out in full orange suits with hoods, gloves, etc. spraying some type of disinfectant, full drenching the roads and fences, slow and steady...

    We've been disinfected...

Unusual that there was no announcement - usually have a speaker truck drive around announcing the applications prior to the actual spraying, mossies, etc.
