Kiwis are trying to work if the below directive includes liquor stores.

fast-moving consumer goods businesses are essential: "Any entity involved in the supply, delivery, distribution and sale of food, beverage and other key consumer goods essential for maintaining the wellbeing of people, but not takeaway shops.

No takeaways? Can one still get a steak and cheese at the local dairy?

The also state the number of infections is up to 827 with 766 currently in hospital and 4 seriously ill and on ventilators.

Italy figures are promising but need to wait until the end of the week to ensure they are reducing. Germany had two reduced days followed by another increase today.

New York is going to be hit hard unless they are in lockdown already.

The three stupidest sentences about the corona crisis:

    1. It's just like the flu.

2 . I am young, none of this affects me.
    3. These masks are useless anyway

Nothing was reduced in Germany Troy. It was not reported correctly due to the weekend.

Anyone noticed, only the most merciful gods have afflicted Man with pestilence, famine, disease and other outrage, or ordered generals to open the bodies of pregnant women. No Devil has yet been charged with such brutality.

    This is a shoo-in:

Why condoms are ineffective in general. I have been watching people wearing condoms and they routinely pull them down to talk then wipe their penis then put the condom back on. I witness people who take the condom off but never washed their hands after then touch their penis.

Health Minister Hancock said on Monday that he was working day and night to adequately equip the staff at the front. Much of the clothing distributed does not meet the guidelines of the World Health Organization. The Guardian reported that nurses in London's Royal Free Hospital had garbage bags wrapped around their waist. On Monday, the death toll in the kingdom was expected to rise to more than 300.

While idiots here on TD where still arguing about face masks, I stated how our Europeans health workers are dressed up for a Halloween Hospital Party.

    Also help (to) from Italy

US Air Force Flew Half a Million Coronavirus Test Swabs From Italy to Tennessee

UPDATE 2:30 PM: This story has been updated to include comments from Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman and Air Force Brig. Gen. Dr. Paul Friedrichs, the Joint Staff surgeon.

The U.S. Air Force quietly flew 500,000 swabs for COVID-19 testing kits from Italy to Memphis, Tennessee, on Monday, Defense One has learned.

Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman confirmed the shipment on board an Air National Guard aircraft. The plane carried “swabs” that are used in the COVID-19 testing process, he said during a Wednesday afternoon briefing at the Pentagon.

“There’s multiple parts to testing,” Air Force Brig. Gen. Dr. Paul Friedrichs, the Joint Staff surgeon, said at the same briefing. “The first is the swabs that are used to collect the sample from the individual who’s being tested, then there’s a liquid … that you put the swab into. That’s what composed what we brought over from Italy.”

These types of swabs are made by companies in the U.S. and overseas, he said.

Memphis is one of the US hubs for FedEX, so that part makes sense

U.N. chief wants $2 billion to help poor countries combat coronavirus

    ---

Guterres said he would launch a $2 billion humanitarian appeal on Wednesday.

He also called for a global ceasefire so the world can focus on fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

“It is time to put armed conflict on lockdown and focus together on the true fight of our lives,” Guterres said.

The United Nations has been trying to mediate an end to conflicts in countries including Syria, Yemen and Libya, while also providing humanitarian assistance to millions of civilians.

“End the sickness of war and fight the disease that is ravaging our world,” he said. “It starts by stopping the fighting everywhere. Now. That is what our human family needs, now more than ever.”

Wife is saying that Prayut has just imposed a curfew on Bangkok but I can't find the details. Has he closed the airports for a month as well or is it just a night curfew?

    Anyone with the latest news?

There's this so I guess details will be available shortly. I'll keep checking.

BANGKOK (AP) — Thailand’s prime minister says his government has agreed to declare a state of emergency to implement stricter measures to control the coronavirus outbreak.
Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said his Cabinet agreed Tuesday at its weekly meeting to put a one-month state of emergency into effect on Thursday. It will give the government enforcement powers not normally available to it.

Added: Doesn't appear to be anything yet, as it is very recent.

But it starts Thursday, so if you are going to panic buy bog roll, now is the time to do it.

    Oh dear.

A 42-year-old street artist was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with committing a computer crime for saying online that Thailand’s largest airport was not screening travelers for COVID-19.

Danai Ussama was arrested at about 4pm at his home in Phuket by officers from the Technology Crime Suppression Division who told him that he had violated the Computer Crime Act by writing online that Suvarnabhumi International Airport lacked screening measures during the coronavirus pandemic.

Danai told online Thai news nonprofit
Prachatai that he had traveled from Barcelona and arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport on March 17. He said no one from his flight went through any health screening beyond passing a ceiling-mounted infrared camera

Writing under the name Zen Wide on Facebook, his post was shared more than 10,000 times before becoming unavailable after his arrest.

BANGKOK, March 24 (Reuters) - Thailand will be in an emergency mode from March 26 for a month to deal with the coronavirus outbreak, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha told a news conference on Tuesday.

The emergency decree will mean the prime minister will have the executive power to declare further measures to contain the virus, including giving extra authority to officials and allowing the setting up of checkpoints to reduce people movements, Prayuth said.

He said details of the measures will be announced later.

Perhaps he also wanted to help Italy from Ukraine?

A lawsuit was opened against ex-prime minister Goncharuk because of ignoring the letter of the National Security and Defense Council on the ban on the export of masks

Special anti-corruption prosecutors opened a criminal case against government officials of former Prime Minister Aleksey Goncharuk: the Cabinet of Ministers in February did not restrict the export of medical masks and other personal protective equipment needed to combat coronavirus, despite possible warnings from the NSDC.

^^^" You, you,......you no talk bad about Thailand ".

But th chap should be careful about what he thinks is happening. During the SARS outbreaks I used to visit Penang for visa runs/applications and at the airport there they had a temperature monitoring operation scrutinising arrivals in place . It was done through a remote scanner monitored by a woman who was examining the thermal map of passengers as they walked along. I would never have noticed had I not dropped my passport after passing through and looked back.

I have to say, vis-a-vis the Thai COVID measures, from my perspective simply watching Thai from my balcony, or from the pool area or during the now largely limited times I leave our grounds, the Thai do not observe social distancing, anywhere, anytime. Look at their live studio TV programmes, all the contestants are grouped together practically holding each other.

Unless they are specifically told not to and threatened with fines they will not change their habits.
