The symptoms all experts are telling you to look out for when it comes to the Coronavirus are coughing, getting a fever, and shortness of breath.

However Dr. Lynne Humphrey says it's likely people are going about their daily routines not showing any symptoms, but are still carrying the Coronavirus.

"That particular concern is very real, especially for younger, healthier folks. Again, you may be carrying the virus even though you're not feeling sick," said Dr. Humphrey, M.D. at Northeast Family Medicine Center at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center.

Claus Wilke at the University of Texas Austin has studied the evolution of viruses for 20 years.

He says there are two ways of being asymptomatic. First, many people become infectious a few days before they develop symptoms, spreading the virus before they know they're ill.

"Second, some people, in particular young adults and children, will never develop any obvious symptoms, or they develop symptoms that are so light that they don't think about it. Maybe they feel a bit under the weather, they have a bit of a cough or a sore throat," said Wilke.

That's why doctors say social distancing is incredibly important for everyone, whether or not you're feeling sick.

"When more testing becomes available, we would test everybody that we can, but it's okay to stay home if you have mild flu-like symptoms," said Dr. Humphrey.

Although a big challenge for the medical field is the shortage of tests, Dr. Humphrey says more tests will be coming.

Wilke thinks more testing needs to be done as soon as possible.

"We are absolutely not testing enough. We should be testing everybody who exhibits symptoms, everybody who has come into contact with somebody who has tested positive or who exhibits symptoms, and then probably everybody else who is concerned about having contracted the virus," said Wilke.

Kids are hardly affected by it, some carriers are asymptomatic and some get it very mildly, some just getting a cough.

^ how many dumb statements are you gonna make in 1 day??? Most TD posters can work that out for themselves and divide by 10... &, no, I didn't go looking for a site to try and 'trick' posters into thinking the number was 10 times higher - fuk me, man, what is wrong with you people???

The same folk who have been wrong at every turn on the Brexit thread, have been wrong at every turn here.

Those figures will definitely go down from what you've shown simply because...

    1-
As I've said, A lot more people have had it already, who haven't been to hospital or been diagnosed and have recovered. Those figures could be humungous.

2- The highest death rate at the top of your list...Italy....24% of their population is/was over 65

3- The second higest death rate on there is Iran, where they'll just shoot the ill.

Nah, it will peter out in a Month or so
SARS was said to be 4% at the time, folks said it'll drop for the factors you mentioned. Now, years later with all the analysis done it's accepted as between 9-15%; a common mortality rate quoted for SARS is 11%.

I don't know, I'm simply telling you the facts directly quoted from a site that's visible for you all (btw, you forgot to add into your calculations that the % is not of those diagnosed, but rather those diagnosed and either dead or considered recovered (less than half of those diagnosed are accounted for in your calculation...)).

Death rates are normally reported per 1,000 or per 100,000.

Coronavirus deaths in Italy overtake China as economic damage mounts

LONDON/MILAN (Reuters) - The world’s richest nations poured unprecedented aid into the global economy on Thursday as coronavirus cases ballooned in the new epicentre Europe, with the number of deaths in Italy outstripping those in mainland China, where the virus originated.

With over 242,000 infections and nearly 10,000 deaths, the epidemic has stunned the world and drawn comparisons with painful periods such as World War Two, the 2008 financial crisis and the 1918 Spanish flu.

U.N. chief Antonio Guterres warned that a global recession, “perhaps of record dimensions”, was a near certainty.

“This is a moment that demands coordinated, decisive, and innovative policy action from the world’s leading economies,” Guterres told reporters via a video conference. “We are in an unprecedented situation and the normal rules no longer apply.”

Tourism and airlines have been particularly battered, as the world’s citizens hunker down to minimize contact and curb the spread of the highly contagious COVID-19 respiratory illness. But few sectors have been spared by a crisis threatening a lengthy global recession.

The United States is urging Americans not to travel abroad at all and could announce restrictions at the U.S.-Mexican border on Friday. They would be similar to the closure of the U.S.-Canada border to non-essential traffic.

Markets have suffered routs unseen since the 2008 financial debacle, with investors rushing to the U.S. dollar as a safe haven. Wall Street tried to bounce back on Thursday. The benchmark S&P 500 .SPX closed up 0.5%, still around 30% off highs reached last month. U.S. oil prices posted their largest one-day gain ever, rising 25%. [.N] [O/R]

Policymakers in the United States, Europe and Asia have slashed interest rates and opened liquidity taps to try to stabilise economies hit by quarantined consumers, broken supply chains, disrupted transport and paralysed businesses.

The virus, thought to have originated from wildlife in mainland China late last year, has jumped to 172 other nations and territories with more than 20,000 new cases reported in the past 24 hours - a new daily record.

Cases in Germany, Iran and Spain rose to more than 12,000 each. An official in Tehran tweeted that the coronavirus was killing one person every 10 minutes.

Not a hygiene question, that's your business.

This is a social awareness/consciousness/responsibility matter. Folks not wearing masks, not using GEL regularly is a major problem - even old folks and folks who have previous medical problems deserve to live, and deserve a tiny bit of support by you in the process.

Current Active Cases are listed as 133,000 worldwide. With a large % in Asia.

There's simply no way that so many high profile people could be infected if that was anywhere near the real number.
Well the number is confirmed cases, so of course the overall number of infected and contagious is going to be significantly higher - especially with the estimated two week window from infection to symptoms.

    We have passed 10,000 deaths.

Actually - all things considered I'll wear a face mask - willingly. Not expecting it to be 100% effective, but, knowing it will cut down on the amount of dust and particulate pollution I'll inhale, and the protection it does provide from the inconsiderate walking sick amount us.

I'm all for the hand sanitizer located everywhere for easy use. Up to the individual to utilize it. I do, not fanatically. Every little bit helps.

The death rate will be high!
Recovering from covid-19 doesn't mean you have recovered yet completely. So those numbers are also BS!
Some people will have permanent damages on their lungs. Folks....we are talking about lungs, not a scratch on your pinky finger.

In China people recovered faster then they got infected.
It's a typical thing of "Made in China".

The virus does not respect borders, nor does it select good, or bad people. It will run its course whatever people and governments do, or don’t do.
Context and perception is a media issue, at which they have failed miserably, yet again. Cheap lazy journalism triumphs again.

As it stands this morning in the UK, last day of school for the forceable..

    Dear Parents

The previous two updates were; No 1 - seeking permission from you for on-line working, and No 2 - to ask you to return information if you thought you were in the category of 'Key Workers.'
Thank you to everyone who replied so quickly to No 2. The main issues have been about the clarification on who is a 'Key Worker' and does 'parents' mean both parents / carers in the same family etc. In assessing whether or not you need school to undertake school provision for your child, please assess in households, where there are more than one responsible adult, whether all are in the critical industry classification. I have just learned that the Education Secretary, said that the Cabinet Office intend to release the full list of these key workers later and parents not on the list would be "immediately aware" their child wouldn't be offered a place in school.
We are still waiting for this announcement, but it is generally interpreted that it refers to both parents / carers.
We will be informing you whether your child can be accepted in school as soon as we have the details and clarity on them.
    Sending work home tomorrow:
The staff has worked exceptionally hard this week to provide you with as many resources as possible for the coming weeks and the packs will be sent home with children tomorrow at the end of the day. Members of staff have come up with brilliant ideas and ways to maximise children's learning under the circumstances and it includes on-line learning, which you gave your permission for today. We realise that there will be some challenges for parents with this work and we will continue to offer advice remotely, in our working hours.
For those children already at home in self-isolation, firstly, I hope you are all coping and you have our best wishes. You are asked to send a 'friend' to collect the packages from the school office from 2.30pm. Please do not ask for them at 2.30pm if your child is in school tomorrow - the packages will not be in the office and children will bring them home at 3.15pm.
Thank You - for the very many thanks and positive comments you have given to us, particularly this week. It really has helped staff morale. We will be very sad when we see you take your children tomorrow but we will be hoping for the very best for you and your family in the coming weeks and months. There will, of course, be more updates tomorrow. The content that I could put in it would be little more add than my updates but, of course, would have our very best wishes and thoughts to you and the children to 'Keep safe and keep healthy' and look after each other.
