^ but do they keep the bees away?

My masks are 94, they were pretty cheap. &, this is mainly to help Cyrille, 95 is one more than 94, so that has to be good!

The UK's plan has shifted because the scientific modelling showed we were on course for a "catastrophic epidemic".

A strategy of just slowing the spread of the virus, but not trying to stop it, would have overwhelmed intensive care units.

The modelling by Imperial College London has been heavily informed by the experience in Italy and is influencing decisions at the heart of government.

Its calculations predicted 260,000 deaths in the UK.

They are obviously NOT effective. Just like most Chinese 'medicine'. Give me something science has developed thanks.

^^ the UK is all over the shop.

Why follow the Italian model which has been an utter failure instead of looking at countries like Korea which despite being next door to China with loads of Chinese coming and going, but has managed to get a decent hold on the virus?

They can't stop it. They are just trying to flatten that bell curve and reach the holy grail of herd immunity.

This will make it take longer; whether it has the same death rate remains to be seen.

it can't be stopped but the real tragedy in Italy and all over Europe, including the UK, will be the poor healthcare infrastructure after years of budget cuts and neglect by the officials

we could have faced the whole thing otherwise, now we have to be all confined !!!

    Upstarts.

"Meanwhile a third tourist who arrived in New Zealand yesterday [16/03, no time given] is also facing deportation after officials found she had no clear plans to self-isolate amid escalating coronavirus fears.

The woman checked in to Rucksacker backpackers hostel in Christchurch last night wearing a face mask.

She did not show any flu symptoms nor had she mixed with other hostel residents, it's understood."

When was this requirement published and the definition of what "self-isolate" includes/demands?

"The New Zealand Government's travel restrictions, which took effect at 1am Monday,[16/o3] require all international travellers arriving in this country to self-isolate for 14 days"

Have NZ authorities and any other countries published, their "self-isolation plans/required documentation" to airlines etc. So these types of disappointments can be avoided?

Ever tried travelling into Thailand on a one-way plane ticket?

Have NZ airports immigration officers not been asking what incoming travellers are doing to comply with the new requirements?

"But this morning [17/03], Ministry of Health officials arrived at the hostel to question the woman about her self-isolation plans, before police officers showed up to take her away."

Have the tourist hotels etc. been issued guidelines to ensure their own compliance?

"The hostel manager, who asked not to be named, said the woman, who was apparently travelling on her own for a fortnight trip and had a pre-existing booking, was checked in to a private room."

Is a "private room" not considered "self isolation"?

It appears a person arrived at NZ immigration on the 16th. Was allowed in by NZ Immigration. No evidence that she was questioned by or lied to the officer. Are incoming tourists not required to state their accommodation address on the NZ immigration checked landing document.?

She arrived at her pre-booked accommodative. Are not hotel receptionists aware of the new regulations?

Has her travel itinerary from airport to hotel been disinfected, her taxi driver/bus driver and occupants quarantined?

Four people need firing, the airline check-in person, the NZ airports immigration officer, the hotel receptionist and the INZ compliance and verification general manager Stephen Vaughan.

    Who said something like:

"This kind of behaviour is completely irresponsible and will not be tolerated which is why these individuals have been fired".

One hopes the NZ PM offers the lady a VIP holiday, with the same level of service/facilities, he receives whilst visiting foreign lands.

Airlines Seek $50 Billion In Government Aid Amid Covid-19 Chaos
"With the global airline industry crashed, US airlines are seeking upwards of $50 billion in government aid, according to The Wall Street Journal sources.

The assistance program could include "government-backed loans, cash grants or other measures including relief from taxes and fees."

Over the weekend, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the Trump administration is focused on providing relief for airlines, hotels, cruise ships, and other industries that have been heavily impacted by the virus.

"This is a unique circumstance," Mnuchin was quoted by Bloomberg at a Saturday press conference at the White House.
"There's no question, because of the things that we're requesting to do, there are parts of the economy shutting down or slowing down dramatically."

The global airline industry has plunged into chaos as governments impose flight restrictions across the world. This has resulted in a massive demand shock leaving airliners with absolutely no bookings. Many US carriers have had to slash international flights, with new risks emerging of domestic flights being grounded in the weeks ahead.

Henry Harteveldt, a travel industry analyst in San Francisco, tweeted on Sunday evening that a "Growing number of sources within #airlines & DC telling me the WH giving serious consideration to grounding all passenger flights for 14-30 days (cargo would be exempted)

The worst-case scenario could play out for US airliners, who have already been suffering from international flight cancellations, could soon see domestic flights grounded, which is all in an attempt to flatten the curve and slowdown infections. And maybe it's the proposed $50 billion in aid that would allow airliners to weather a shutdown."

If you believe US tax payers would rather support and pay to privately owned - commercial airlines / international banks / tin tube makers international leasing companies, airplane manufactures - European and Chinese US$ 50,000, 000,000 share prices or receive free, timely, virus treatment.

    Ask them.

Let's see what they say, when he announces to the his prospective voters at his next election rally.

"I chose to subsidise capitalist US and foreign private companies, but I didn't give you any benefits when we caused mass hysteria, imposed mass unpaid unemployment, create personal bankruptcy and inflicted unnecessary suffering and death death to your loved family members/folks."

War games scaled down (or cancelled?)

Pentagon scales back biggest military exercise in Europe since Cold War amid coronavirus outbreak

The Pentagon on Monday canceled or scaled down major drills across the globe, took dramatic new steps to protect Defense Secretary Mark Esper, and ramped up teleworking as the U.S. military races to deal with the global coronavirus pandemic.

The wave of new directives stretch across all corners of the military, from the sprawling Pentagon complex and its more than 25,000 workers to U.S. military personnel in Europe, Africa, and elsewhere around the world. The Army said it is downsizing the long-awaited Defense Europe 20 exercise — the largest military drill on the continent since the Cold War — in an effort to keep coronavirus from spreading through the ranks.

More than 20,000 U.S. military personnel were expected to take part in the landmark set of drills, but that number now will be closer to 6,000. No additional American service members will deploy to Europe and the transfer of additional equipment has been halted.

The expected 2 week village confinement has been confirmed. At least I'm with the wife now and not cooped up in Germany. I have to send a photo of the digital thermometer reading twice a day. Sounds fine to me...

    Good idea.

I have got one of these little Covid19 specials off EBay.

    The COVID-2019 Thread-p3180244-jpg

I keep the probe permanently inserted while I am out and about and keep the gauge in my pocket so I can monitor my temperature from minute to minute.

It even has an alarm that goes off if I go over 39c

People with asthma or anyone who usually gets the flu jab should stay at home if possible, according to one of the UK’s top doctors.

Jonathan Van-Tam is the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England, and he urged people in any of the ‘high risk categories’ to make sure they’re practising social distancing to protect themselves from coronavirus.

Prof Van-Tam told BBC News, when asked about asthma sufferers: “I don’t want to go into enormous detail into every single risk group but we are saying it is the people who are offered flu vaccines, other than children, who fit into that risk category, people for whom the advice is very strong about social distancing.”

Prof Van-Tam did have some good news when it comes to kids: “Now, for children, I would say we don’t have complete information – there is now beginning to be a fair bit of information and from China it is clear that children are not badly affected by the coronavirus.

“At the moment we can’t say whether that is because they are not being infected in great numbers or whether in actual fact it’s a very mild illness for children. What I can say is all the signals so far are that this illness is mild in children.”

That's half the population of the UK then...
