Btw, I haven't seen many Chinese in Pattaya lately, wonder if they went home or were told/asked/ordered to self isolate.

My workplace just made the outstanding decision to hold a meeting for all staff in my division (about 200+ people) to discuss covid-19.

Because gathering everybody into one room to discuss a transmissible respiratory virus is the thing to do.

    Muppets.

Are you fucking stupid or what? Tour groups were prohibited from departing China over three weeks ago, and Chinese NY ended nigh on a month ago. The most the Kitchens could have received in the way of an extension was a mere seven days so in answer to your daft question, they are all in fucking China.

30 medics quarantined after infected patient lied after visiting high-risk country

About 30 medical personnel at the B Care Medical Centre have been suspended from work and placed under home quarantine after having close contact with a patient infected with COVID-19, who had lied about his recent return from a high-risk country.

The hospital said, in a statement issued on Tuesday that, although all the medics and staff tested negative for the virus, as soon as the patient was found to be infected they were all sent home and placed under self-quarantine for 14 days. The medics will be subjected to more tests to make sure that they have not contracted the disease.

The hospital said that the patient came to the hospital on February 23rd with a fever and a cough, but he denied that he had recently returned from abroad when asked. He was diagnosed with a lung inflammation and admitted for treatment.

The following day, doctors checked on his condition and he, again, denied he had been abroad until, later that afternoon, he admitted he had just returned from a high-risk country.

The B Care Medical Centre then transferred the patient to a negative pressure room for observation and sent fluid samples for testing. The same night it was confirmed that he is infected with COVID-19. Eventually, the patient was transferred to a state hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, Thai Air Asia reported today that it has suspended all cabin crew who worked on Flight XJ621 from Japan’s Hokkaido airport to Bangkok on February 20th, on which the COVID-19 positive patient was a passenger.

The airline has also contacted other passengers on the same flight to ask them to see a doctor immediately if they develop flu-like symptoms.

The plane has been fumigated and sprayed with disinfectants.

Furthermore, the Thanachart Bank branch in the Don Mueang area has been ordered closed until Friday after it was discovered that the patient is the father of a member of staff.

All staff at the branch have been examined by doctors and told to monitor their health for 14 days. The bank branch is to be fumigated today and sprayed with disinfectant, according to the bank.

Travellers entering Beijing will be subject to 14 days quarantine if they have previously been to countries seriously impacted by the outbreak.

Quarantine if you visit the country where it all started.

    Albania in denial

    https://balkaninsight.com/2020/02/24/albania-prosecutors-open-investigation-over-corona-virus-panic-spreading-information/?fbclid=IwAR2qrOrj1dYuz4t_L-2RQlsVc8d6o7RbrZc__6Sp7GkY1c7XK_iLPTd6ts0

Prosecutors in Albania said they were opening an investigation into what they called “diffusion of fake information or announcements in any form aimed at creating a state of insecurity and panic among the people”, warning that causing panic in this manner is a crime.
Prosecutors said they suspected fearful messages were being spread mainly through WhattsApp.

The prosecutor’s announcement on Monday followed an eruption of coronavirus cases in nearby Italy, a country with which Albania has multiple links.

The scare over the virus prompted directors and teachers of a private school in Tirana to take a two-week holiday. Their announcement met harsh criticism from the Minister of Education, Besa Shahini, however, who warned she might annul the operating license for the school.

“The directors that are spreading panic by closing down their school in an illegal way, allegedly to prevent a viral situation that does NOT exist in Albania, should be investigated by the justice bodies,” she said.

The school defended its decision to close for a fortnight, however, retorting: “Between HEALTH and ANTI-PANIC the Ministry choose the later”.

The Socialist government of Prime Minister Edi Rama has been engaged for months in a battle against what it calls fake news, aiming to justify its attempt to impose a tough regulatory regime on the online media that has been criticized widely by both Albanian and international rights organisations.

After Albania was hit by a 6.3M earthquake ion November 26, Rama complained again about panic being spread on the online media. Police and prosecutors promptly arrested a 25-year-old Facebook user and charged two others with spreading panic, in what local rights groups said were disproportionate and unreasonable measures.

Meanwhile, in Italy, the government has approved an extraordinary law with immediate effect to fight the spread of the virus, by banning cultural events and protests in several towns in the north, where 219 cases of the virus and five deaths had been reported by Monday afternoon.

Worldwide, concerns about a global pandemic have grown, as countries fail to contain the spread of the virus through quarantine measures. Some 78,811 people have been infected and 2,462 people had died from the virus so far, according to the World Health Organization.

The news only grows worse. It’s hard to believe there are enough test kits to identify all of the cases of COVID-19 in any country. There must be people ill from this in many places over the world but not being diagnosed. (USA included.)

Officials in China's Wuhan Deny Reports of Elderly Care Home Fever Deaths

The coronavirus has claimed the lives of elderly care home residents in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, with outbreaks likely in other similar facilities, local media reported, amid strenuous denials from local government officials.

Cutting-edge news website Caixin said in a recent report that 11 elderly people had died at the Wuhan Social Welfare Institute from "fevers and respiratory failure."

A statement on the official website of the Wuhan municipal cyberspace administration denied the report.

Caixin then doubled down and published the names and dates of all of the deaths after a local official threatened to pursue the organization for rumor-mongering, a crime carrying a maximum jail sentence of seven years in China.

A source close to a care home run by the government's Ximajie Community Health Center who gave only her surname Chen said more than 120 residents were taken away in ambulances on Monday.

I wonder how many people have actually had it, had no symptoms worth worrying about, and have recovered, and are not being counted among the total infected?

This could push the mortality rate down significantly.

There have been more new detections of coronavirus outside China than inside, in a major turning point in the international spread of Covid-19, the World Health Organization reports.

    There it is...

Yes, but: There may already be more American cases than we know about. The CDC’s diagnostic tests for the virus have malfunctioned, and only about a dozen state and local health agencies even have them.

The CDC is working on a new one, but in the meantime, the U.S. has only tested some 426 people for the virus.

    Funny you should say that.

We've just had an international student fly home from chez chitty last week.
He left us all with the worse dry cough flu we've ever had.
We thankfully all survived and didn't report it.

We got a list of countries we are "banned" from visiting due to their infections.

And it included Indonesia, who are claiming zero infections and zero fatalities.

Which tells me there is intel being circulated in government circles that is not being shared with the public.
