Just a thought, and of course it's not practical if at all possible to properly lockdown entire countries, while even with a global effort there are not enough resources to quarantine hundreds of thousands of people with new infections daily, but even with those limitations I don't rate volunteer self isolation as an effective measure.

Make it law, under emergency measures, for those confirmed as infected that cannot be housed and treated by state, to self isolate under specified conditions. Sure, that's also impractical since most people do not have the luxury of a spare room or the money, understanding or even intelligence to do the right thing.

So, best solution is to continue with the status quo and each gov does as it sees fit, because one way or the other every one of them will be subject to scathing criticism during the inquest once it is over.

And probably give China a half decent smack for good measure.

These international travel restrictions are about 2 months too late.

Given this weekend's announcements from multiple countries imposing some kind of restriction/quarantine I'm guessing Monday on the stock market is gonna be quite bloody.

All to do with sentiment, when the market is gloomy as it's been they look for and will find something positive, precisely like the perception that govs are doing more and that should lessen the negative effects that are already priced in. But as you say, if infections/deaths increase in Europe/US over the weekend, the easing we had on Friday will soon disappear.

Also, many people can't rake it in fast enough during volatile periods like this.

Why should someone travelling from a high risk or exempt region be treated differently if they are a citizen of either the source or destination country?

Got briefed earlier in the week the government was going for a contain and restrict policy with the aim not to prevent the virus but to slow down the spread to avoid the economic impact that would be caused by a complete countrywide shutdown.

Like the more common flu viruses, COVID-19 will mutate and will probably do so in rapid fashion due to the immense number of infections that will occur. None of this is good news for the human species.

were sacked and another was under investigation after government staff used a rubbish truck to ship a consignment of pork for human consumption, local authorities said.

Residents in the Yuanlin community of Qingshan district were outraged when the pork they bought from government stores arrived in the vehicle on Wednesday.
