That was more than 15 years ago, during which time not only tech and knowledge have advanced significantly but lessons were learned and preps for future outbreaks were improved so as not to be caught out next time totally unprepared.
While it took the early weeks for the intl community to realise that this is the one they were prepping for, plus an unknown number of weeks that the Chinese tried to smother it, now every major research unit worldwide is on the case, and hopefully sharing data. Last month, not sure if it was the WHO or a national bio agency that estimated the vaccine time to be in the range of 2-3 months, possibly 4, and without any info to contradict this it should be developed soon.
As someone said, this too will pass, and let's see how they handle the next one.
