A few restrictions being imposed at work now and in the general area. Anyone that has been to South Tyrol in the last fortnight is not allowed in to work. However, the rules governing whether this is sick leave or forced holiday or make-it-up-some-other-way-without-breaking-the-10-Hour-rule haven't been published yet. Of course that means the Company will screw the individual as per usual.

Schools are being closed and parents are left responsible for looking after them but no rules yet published about who pays for this...which means the individuals will.

No chance of getting a coronavirus check, even if sick, (exception if you are on your deathbed), unless the individual pays for it privately...

Whilst I agree that individual loss is a necessary sacrifice to maintain society, it is only acceptable if that society is making every effort to reduce that sacrifice. The figures coming from some countries simply don't add up compared to figures coming from others. Herman is right about those figures coming out of Germany and the UK compared to those coming from Italy and, more recently, Spain.

My dilemma is that I am in Germany and my dearest is in Thailand. I am due to go back in a fortnight and bring her back to Germany. Is a fortnight too long to wait? Should i risk that the virus will not rise exponentially in Germany (as it should) and flights are stopped or should I bugger off earlier. Isolated village in the hottest month surely has to be safer than fooking Germany...but what if I have the virus and infect the village? Fook, that would be bad egg!

Meanwhile, I am surprised that the tabloid press are allowed to put the willies up the population even further with their bollox about the virus jumping 4.5m or sitting in the air for minutes waiting to jump down some unsuspecting throat...it's time to kill the mis-information that allows click-bait to out trump the truth (no pun intended). Nothing gives me the heebie-jeebies more than the thought that people believe the shit the media come up with in order to make money.

I looked at the Italian cases on Italy Coronavirus: 10,149 Cases and 631 Deaths - Worldometer and something doesn't look right.

Take a look at the number of cases using a log scale...

The standard exponential graph of number of cases should have peaked at around the 1K, 2K mark and not just continued up towards 10K and beyond.

Are they milking for international aid or something?

Where on earth did you get the idea that we got immune to Measles?
Just to clarify, I said "more immune" to measles- no, we never got immune to it. But it was one of those diseases- along with mumps, chicken pox, flu, scarlet fever, I've prolly missed some out, you just had as a kid growing up in the UK. A tad bothersome, but very rarely lethal. I had them all.

But that same measles, when carried to the Americas by Europeans, was very lethal indeed. Because they had no previous exposure to it, and thus no resistance. Worse case scenario is that it will be the same here with CV. Millions may die- mostly elderly however, which is tantamount to a reduction in life span. Not great, but hardly the end of the world, or anything new in a world sense.

New cases seem to be diminishing in China, which is tentatively encouraging. But at some stage, we may have to make a decision- carry on with life, or see our whole financial system collapse. Possibly our social system too- the chaos that could unleash would make Covid look like a mere cough.

^ Didn't you just love those days of being invited to your neighbour's just so you could catch the local bug that was doing the rounds.

I never did catch mumps...both my sisters did and Mum was most upset. Big sis had no symptoms of measles either...

...bloody good food during those visits though....

Main point is that society must come first. It must be able to breathe, stay alive so that it can afford to heal those that get sick.

    Life is a compromise...

That Farage bloke has got on my nerves again. Always thinking at the level of the individual (me, me, me) rather than at the society level.

A need to prevent those affected from transferring to others I agree. As a precautionary method, to prevent infection, I am not so sure. Ypu appear to be wearing one as protection from infection so may I ask a couple of simple questions... 1) do you ensure it is donned correctly. 2) how long do you wear it before replacing? 3) Do you dispose of used ones correctly? I ask because wearing a mask all day is just a good way of collecting the virus efficiently, ready to infect yourself, unless you both use them and dispose of them correctly. Heaven forbid if you are one of those that I have seen wear the same mask day after day....

Influenza is much easier to transmit from person to person. So easy in fact that the WHO is differentiating Coronavirus because it is harder to transmit and therefore easier to contain. I had a mild 'flu in mid January but with no fever so I continued to work. None of my work colleagues were infected with the virus I had. That's 5 people in a small office space plus another 10 in the surrounding office space.

Bridlington arcade owner fills grabber machine with loo roll
The owner of an amusement arcade in Bridlington has replaced soft toys with toilet rolls in one of his grabber machines.

Eddy Chapman came up with the idea after seeing people stocking up on the bathroom staple because of coronavirus concerns.

Mr Chapman said one couple had travelled more than 60 miles to play the grabber.

Your assumption is incorrect, I am mostly wearing the mask because the virus is spread throughout Korea, I may or may not have the virus and be infecting others, so I am primarily wearing the mask to stop me spreading the virus unwittingly to others. There will be some protection too for myself, probably not a lot, but enough to help in some situations.

Please don't talk about the flu, it is meaningless on this thread and just reads like trolling.

Korea might be stabilising to a degree, but clusters can alight anywhere at anytime...

The red spots just keep on growing, the numbers keep increasing and the virus keeps doing it's thing, despite the greater knowledge of some TD esteemed members...

^ Have you got cabin fever there yet Betty?

If it's true about it dissipating when the Summer comes, which I believe too(i've never had a flu in Thailand or in the Summer in the UK compared to the several in the winter time)

Just saw Korea still has another 4 or 5 months to go til the Summer. Luckily you have that coffee maker to keep you out of Starbucks.

Yeah, driving me insane at home with the wife and dog; internet shopping and eating all day... The Nespresso has paid for itself many times over, and I just finished one - very nice it was too.

I hope things calm down by the summer, we will see. I've got bored of it all now, and hope it is peaking then goes away; the worry is that it will hang around for a few years and just be another thing on the list with measles, flu, etc. Anything new which spreads so easily is a potential problem, as we're seeing now on a social and economic global scale.

Miss TT has a meeting in a relatively low-risk country next week, and has been told they'll need to self-isolate for 14 days upon returning.

Which seems a bit odd tbh, shirley it's better for companies to postpone or cancel such trips than risk the health and lose 14 days of productivity of their staff.

But I'm not Thai so probably don't understand.

    Report from hell !

An emergency doctor from a clinic in Milan reports that the number of intensive care beds in his hospital has doubled, but the number of doctors, nurses and nurses remains the same because there are simply no more doctors and nurses. The nursing staff has therefore long been working above the exposure limit. The doctor appeals to the population: "I greet you from hell. Help us by staying at home. We can hardly help. If the rules are not strictly followed, it will lead to mass extinction, "warns the intensive care doctor, adding:" Pray for the nurses who sacrifice themselves here ".
All beds are occupied by corona patients

Another doctor from a hospital in the eastern area of Milan reports that the course of the disease has also worsened in young patients. So far, old and weak people were in acute danger. Now, however, the course is becoming increasingly serious, even in younger, healthy patients. There are also hardly any ventilators that are absolutely necessary for coronavirus patients.

In the meantime, triage had to be started there. This means that you only intensively treat those who are still given a chance of survival. Elderly or weak patients are no longer given maximum care, which greatly reduces their chances of survival. Triage is actually a procedure that is only intended in times of war or in extreme disaster situations.

Also in the hospital on the outskirts of Milan - as in the clinic in Milan itself - all beds are exclusively occupied with coronavirus patients, as the doctor stationed there reports. For example, if someone were brought in with a heart attack, that patient would have no chance of adequate treatment, he says. In his clinic, too, the staff would work beyond the stress limit. To date, more than 10,000 infections have been reported across Italy, and more than 460 people have died.
In particular, experienced intensive care physicians and intensive care nurses are necessary for the treatment of the difficult courses. But there are only as many of them in normal hospitals as are needed in normal times. Ordinary hospitals in Italy are not adequately equipped for an epidemic.

Both doctors now consider it necessary to actually impose a kind of curfew in the next two to three weeks. With regard to the situation in other countries such as Germany, they express the view that a worsening as in Italy can still be prevented if larger groups of people are consistently prohibited there. Larger events should be canceled. According to the doctor in Milan, public transport should no longer be used for two to three weeks, or only under massive hygienic controls. He also knew that this would have massive economic consequences, he says. But it also has a fully developed corona epidemic.

If it doesn't fok off it's gonna be a right nightmare next winter, with it spread right across Europe and killing people over the age of 70.

Fok only knows what the death-toll could be without a vaccine or cure.

Some of the issues we stated before have been highlighted: it takes all the resources away from normal patients; the healthcare system is just overwhelmed due to the IC requirements of CoronaVirus patients; containment is essential; Europe doesn't appear ready despite the clear evidence from China and Korea being readily available.
