Authorities at Suvarnabhumi have begun temperature scans on passengers arriving from Guangzhou and Wuhan, but not all Chinese cities. Flights from Wuhan have been cancelled because it is under quarantine.

“We will perform a virus scan if the Chinese government announces to watch out for other cities apart from Wuhan and Guangzhou,” general manager Suthirawat Suwannawat told reporters on Saturday.

“Our country can control the situation well. We’ve had patients who are being treated and are improving, many have also gone home,” Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told reporters.

As concern grows locally over the possibility of a bigger outbreak, some social media users have accused the government of caring more about the money from Chinese tourists arriving during the Lunar New Year holiday than public health.

surprising that the thais are not screening passengers from all the countries that have reported cases of this virus.

That’s what scares me about being in Chiang Mai right now. This place is overrun with Chinese tourist, many came in on direct flights from Wuhan.

Just load up on a decent box set and cook your own food for a few days.

They'll either have died or gone home.

Inside the Chinese lab poised to study world's most dangerous pathogens
Maximum-security biolab is part of plan to build network of BSL-4 facilities across China.
    22 February 2017

Hazard suits hang at the National Bio-safety Laboratory, Wuhan, the first lab on the Chinese mainland equipped for the highest level of biocontainment.

A laboratory in Wuhan is on the cusp of being cleared to work with the world’s most dangerous pathogens. The move is part of a plan to build between five and seven biosafety level-4 (BSL-4) labs across the Chinese mainland by 2025, and has generated much excitement, as well as some concerns.

Some scientists outside China worry about pathogens escaping, and the addition of a biological dimension to geopolitical tensions between China and other nations. But Chinese microbiologists are celebrating their entrance to the elite cadre empowered to wrestle with the world’s greatest biological threats.

BSL-4 is the highest level of biocontainment: its criteria include filtering air and treating water and waste before they leave the laboratory, and stipulating that researchers change clothes and shower before and after using lab facilities. Such labs are often controversial. The first BSL-4 lab in Japan was built in 1981, but operated with lower-risk pathogens until 2015, when safety concerns were finally overcome.

The Wuhan lab cost 300 million yuan (US$44 million), and to allay safety concerns it was built far above the flood plain and with the capacity to withstand a magnitude-7 earthquake, although the area has no history of strong earthquakes. It will focus on the control of emerging diseases, store purified viruses and act as a World Health Organization ‘reference laboratory’ linked to similar labs around the world. “It will be a key node in the global biosafety-lab network,” says lab director Yuan Zhiming.

Future plans include studying the pathogen that causes SARS, which also doesn’t require a BSL-4 lab, before moving on to Ebola and the West African Lassa virus, which do. Some one million Chinese people work in Africa; the country needs to be ready for any eventuality, says Yuan. “Viruses don’t know borders.”

But worries surround the Chinese lab, too. The SARS virus has escaped from high-level containment facilities in Beijing multiple times, notes Richard Ebright, a molecular biologist at Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey. Tim Trevan, founder of CHROME Biosafety and Biosecurity Consulting in Damascus, Maryland, says that an open culture is important to keeping BSL-4 labs safe, and he questions how easy this will be in China, where society emphasizes hierarchy. “Diversity of viewpoint, flat structures where everyone feels free to speak up and openness of information are important,” he says.

"These facilities are inherently dual use,” he says. The prospect of ramping up opportunities to inject monkeys with pathogens also worries, rather than excites, him: “They can run, they can scratch, they can bite.”

One presumes the authorities "extracting" their citizens have "procedures", prior to accepting the citizens. That ensures the citizen is not infected, prior to being transported by plane or bus to a safe destination. If in fact one is available.

That security is provided and all the planes, buses etc are sterilised and protected. Before arriving in China, during their pickup and before they land/park elsewhere. One wouldn't want any introduction of external threats into China and wherever they go back to, "friends" being smuggled on board who may be carrying the virus, the planes/buses being hijacked during their flight or bus journey to "Shangri La".

Playing loud Diana Dors recordings seems to attract them, especially the older citizens.

Wuhan: Top-level biosafety lab begins work
    17-01-2018

Virologists read data on a container for viral samples at China's first level-four biosafety lab at the Institute of Virology in Wuhan, Hubei province, on Wednesday. [Xiao Yuzhou/For China Daily]

China has put its first level-four biosafety laboratory into operation, capable of conducting experiments with highly pathogenic microorganisms that can cause fatal diseases, according to the national health authority.

Level four is the highest biosafety level, used for diagnostic work and research on easily transmitted pathogens that can cause fatal diseases, including the Ebola virus.

The Wuhan national level-four biosafety lab recently passed an assessment organized by the National Health and Family Planning Commission, according to a news release on Friday from the Wuhan Institute of Virology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

After evaluating such things as the lab's management of personnel, facilities, animals, disposals and viruses, experts believed the lab is qualified to carry out experiments on highly pathogenic microorganisms that can cause fatal diseases, such as Marburg, Variola, Nipah and Ebola.

"The lab provides a complete, world-leading biosafety system. This means Chinese scientists can study the most dangerous pathogenic microorganisms in their own lab," the Wuhan institute said.

It will serve as the country's research and development center on prevention and control of infectious diseases, as a pathogen collection center and as the United Nations' reference laboratory for infectious diseases, the institute said.

I have a feeling the stock market is going to crash if this continues. You might want to invest in companies that supply masks.

How do they 'sterilise and protect' planes, cars, trucks, trains, passengers and cargo, short of quarantining the entire state/country? Best they can do is spray some disinfectant on everything, tell everyone it's under control and cross fingers eyes and legs that the virus doesn't spread.

Then they can create some serious mofos in their BSL-4 labs!

Wuhan rings a bell, so does its BSL-4 lab, 2+2 begs the question whether that's where this current threat originated.

The response by Thailand is typically woeful and complacent, seemingly reliant on the Chinese to make their decisions for them.

The travel ban in force out of China relates to tour groups and not individuals who seemingly can still travel at will. The virus infection can be present in a host without any symptoms up to a period of 14 days and thus temperature scanners are fucking worthless as a prophylactic at ports of entry. Similarly, the masks worn by most are worthless since moisture exhaled can act as a bridge to an inbound virus expelled by someone coughing close by. The world should quarantine all flights and all travel out of China, HK and Macao. All chinese tourists currently in country should be corralled and removed back to their cesspit country.

These fuckers eat anything that hops, scuttles, crawls, slithers, swims, herds, flies or swings through the jungle and the stupid bustards store these creatures in cages clumped together in stinking markets in circumstances where species have never hitherto been brought into contact with each other. No fucking wonder there are now viruses mutating into diseases that are now catching a ride on human hosts.

But the real kicker is, these filthy savages will still spit, gob, snort, sneeze and cough without a care for anyone else near them as they splatter their stinking mucus and snot any fucking place .

The Chinese are a fucking pestilence.

I presume you are suggesting your "All Flights" includes foreigners, especially diplomatic staff in Chine?

They may be carrying the virus internally but don't yet show any symptoms.

Until the source of the virus is identified there may be suggestions that "somebody" carried the virus, into China.

Shades of the Putin Umbrella allegation.

    Finally Mr. Shithole speaks.

Jan. 25 (UPI) -- China's President Xi Jinping said his nation is facing a "grave situation" as the death toll from the coronavirus has risen to 56 with 1,985 cases of infection.

On Sunday, the China Global Television Network reported 46 of the deaths were in the mainland, and 10 total in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Also, there were 49 cured cases and 2,684 suspected ones.

One day earlier, Xi convened the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China in Beijing.

"Life is of paramount importance. When an epidemic breaks out, a command is issued. It is our responsibility to prevent and control it," Xi said, according to
    state-run Xinhuanet.
It was when it started, you dumb shit.

    Nothing.

The last cull in 1919 took out 50,000,000.

    56? Pfft.

Will be forgotten about in 3 weeks time with a final death-toll in 3 figures.
