    Has anybody heard about this new approach where the vaccines are mixed and matched? For example, your first shot is Pfizer and the second may be AstraZeneca.

    The mutant loons in charge of the Health Department (B.C., Canada) are saying they may very well end up doing this.

    Truth or a barrel of steaming hot shit one asks.

    ...here's the way to go: follow the advice of the CDC and ignore misinformation from priests, ministers, right-wing sources, TV talk show hosts and country singers...it's hard to believe that western liberal education has failed so many so badly...

    Thais warned about vaccine tourism to US

    Foreign Ministry says free-shot rule can change

    Thais seeking to get free Covid-19 vaccines as part of tour packages to the United States should contact the Foreign Ministry first before paying since not all states offer the service, according to the Foreign Ministry.

    Spokesman Tanee Sangrat said on Tuesday before making the decisions, buyers should check the regulations in the states they plan to to go since the situation is still fluid.

    In general, people aged 16 and more who live in or have legally entered the US can seek Covid vaccination free of charge. However, the criteria and procedures differ in each state.
    For example, he said, vaccine recipients are required to have permanent residences or jobs in some states. But in others, tourists may be able to get vaccinated by simply showing their passports.

    Tour companies in Thailand may have been exploiting the opportunity to atrract people wishing to get vaccinated to buy their tour packages, especially to the states where travellers with temporary visas are still allowed to get free shots.

    According to Mr Tanee, many states in the US have taken steps to bar vaccine tourism. The governor of Florida and the health department of Alabama recently said in media interviews that Covid-19 vaccines would be given to people with permanent residency only.

    There are indications that the criteria for vaccine distribution can be quickly altered.

    Therefore, Thai people who buy a vaccine package may risk not getting vaccinated at all or may even be denied entry by the US immigration.

    Mr Tanee urged them to first check with the following Thai government agencies before paying for such a trip.

    In Thailand, they can cantact the Consular Affairs Department, Foreign Ministry, by calling 02-572-8442 or through the Thai Consular mobile app.

    In the US, they can contact:

    - Thai Embassy in Washington DC, (+1 202-684-8493);
    - Thai Consulate in Los Angeles (+1 323-962-9574);
    - Thai Consulate in Chicago (+1 312-664-3129);
    - Thai Consulate in New York (+1 212-754-1770, ext 304, 311 and 313)

    According to ads seen by the Bangkok Post, a package to San Francisco, Monterey and Los Angeles of 10 days or seven nights including boarding and breakfast offers a vaccine made by Johnson & Johnson.

    The prices range from 175,000 baht each for two persons to 76,000 baht each for a group of 8-10, excluding air fares.

    The popularity of such packages is an indicator how desperate some Thais have been to get vaccinated in the wake of the third wave.
    The government on Saturday kicked off vaccination registration for the first group who are not health workers — people aged 60 or more and those with seven existing conditions, but vaccination won't begin until June. Younger people can then register in July.

    Apart from the slow speed of vaccination, many are upset about the lack of vaccine choice.

    Although the government aims to administer 100 million shots by the end of this year, more than half of them will be made by AstraZeneca and Sinovac, which are perceived to have lower efficacy rates than other brands widely used in the US.

    While the government agreed to buy 35 million shots from US-based Pfizer and J&J and Russia-based Gamaleya, people are not allowed to choose the vaccine they will get.

    People who can afford it therefore start looking to get immunised at private hospitals. However, it will take months for the alternative vaccines to be approved by Thailand's Food and Drug Administration and imported by the Government Pharmaceutical Organization for them.

    Was in a (Florida) pharmacy late last week and saw one guy bring in 5 family members (young and old) for a covid vaccine. He took everyone’s Passport (not US) form them and gave them to the staff who were happy to accept them.

    That's strange.
    Two weeks ago my nephew who is over 40 was visiting from NY. and was staying with his mother in Boynton beach , we were told that if your parents were Florida residents and went with you to prove it , a child would get the vaccine even if not a Florida resident. When we took him to the Vaccination place, they refused to give him the Vaccine , they said that he would have to be a FL resident, or below 21 years old to qualify for a vaccine in FL.

    Farang residents here in LoS can take heart from a recent report in which the Dept of Health spokesman, Rongruen Kitphati, repeated that foreigners will not be allowed to register for free vaccines which are restricted to Thai according to vulnerability and this will be policy until such times the government publishes a clear policy. To date there has been no policy other than vague assurances. He did however strike an optimistic note in that farang will be able to buy vaccines from private hospitals when they are available. To date there has been to my knowledge three separate announcements that the private sector has been authorised to buy in supplies only to change their minds - any private hospital offering a vaccine service will only be able to buy-in their stocks through the GPO that have been procured by the government through its appointed agent Vuellig. I think at present no global vaccine manufacturer is prepared to supply stocks to corporate bodies, they are committed to dealing with governments only and certainly in the case of the Oxford/AZ it can only be supplied on the basis of humanitarian principles and at cost with no profit motive. If Thai private hospitals offer AZ at a premium price then Oxford/AZ must be notified accordingly. Given this unfolding situation in which Thai are operating to type I don't think we farang here in Bangkok, Pattaya, etc will be getting immunised for several months yet. The usual bland assurances from this government are worthless.

    Contrast this racist despicable policy with the practice adopted in civilised countries whereby Thai are receiving their jabs contemporaneously with indigenous nationals.

    Loathsome, shitty people.

    I'd like to say i am surprised

    Indonesian firm busted for reusing Covid nasal swab tests

    Several employees of a pharmaceutical company have been arrested in Indonesia for allegedly washing and reselling used Covid nasal swab test kits.

    Up to 9,000 passengers at an airport in Medan may have been tested with the reused swab sticks, say police.

    State-owned company Kimia Farma is now reportedly facing a potential lawsuit launched on behalf of the travellers.

    Covid nasal swab testing has become routine in many countries hit by the global pandemic.

    Police said they believed the scam had been happening since last December at Kualanamu airport in Medan, North Sumatra. It is not yet confirmed how they discovered the ruse.

    Passengers are required to have a negative test if they want to fly, and the airport offers the option of getting the swabs done on site. Airport authorities had used antigen rapid test kits supplied by Kimia Farma.

    Last week, five Kimia Farma employees including the company's Medan manager were arrested by the police. The suspects are accused of breaking health and consumer laws by washing nasal swab sticks and repackaging them for sale.

    Local media report that authorities have compiled reports from 23 witnesses, and are investigating whether the profit from the scam - estimated to be around 1.8bn rupiah (£89,700; $124,800) - was used to fund the construction of a lavish house for one of the suspects.

    Kimia Farma, which is headquartered in the capital Jakarta, has since fired the staff involved and promised to tighten internal controls.

    'Thais, not foreigners, get jab priority

    Thai people will always be given priority for Covid-19 vaccines, the Ministry of Public Health said yesterday, denying reports that some expats living in the kingdom would also be allowed to register for free jabs.

    The ministry said while the government wanted take care of everyone living here, it had no plans to give free vaccines to expats due to very limited vaccine stocks, so Thai people would be the first to get it.

    "The vaccines right now are only reserved for Thai people who are now at a high-risk level or living in the severe outbreak areas," said spokesman Rungrueng Kitphati.
