Andy Burnham is the king if the Norf who's fought all week for Manchester and got an extra 22million for local business.
He should be knighted and run for PM.
He had no choice same as Liverpool and Lancashire, central government over ruled him.
He battled for as long as he could...
This is the moment Andy Burnham learned the details of the Government’s Tier 3 restrictions for Greater Manchester during a live press conference.
The mayor had told reporters that £65 million was the “bare minimum” the city region needed to implement stricter coronavirus measures this winter, and accused ministers of “walking away” from negotiations over funding.
At the same time, Health Secretary Matt Hancock was telling local MPs that the region would forced into “very high” restrictions from Friday, with the Government offering £22 million in support.
Mr Burnham was shown an email with details of the measures live on air. Afterwards he said: “It’s brutal, to be honest, isn’t it?

“This is no way to run a country during a national crisis. It isn’t, it’s not right. They shouldn’t be doing this, grinding people down, trying to accept the least that they can get away with.
“Twenty-two million pounds to fight the situation we are in is frankly disgraceful.”
Cries of “disgraceful” rang out from bystanders as Mr Burnham gave details of the Government’s offer.

Burnham accuses Government of 'walking away' over Tier 3 talks
Mr Burnham said leaders of the authorities in Greater Manchester had originally wanted £90 million – £15 million a month until the end of the financial year – to protect incomes for people forced out of work.
They reduced that sum eventually to £65 million, but ministers would only offer £60 million.
The Prime Minister only confirmed a £22 million sum as he announced the new restrictions at a Downing Street press conference, money intended to implement and enforce the new rules.
Mr Burnham said £65 million was the “bare minimum to prevent a winter of real hardship” over a “punishing” winter.

The Prime Minister was repeatedly pressed on what funding would be available to support businesses in Manchester and whether the £60 million offered to Mr Burnham remained on the table.
“We want to do more,” he said. “But for the sake of fairness, the deal has to be in line with the agreements we have reached with Lancashire and Merseyside, where we have made progress.”
Mr Johnson said his door remains open to Mr Burnham for further talks on the support package.
Downing Street sources stressed that the funding that had been offered was “still available”.

Mr Burnham had complained that ministers were “they playing poker with place and people’s lives through a pandemic”.

Belgium is going down the drain
Coronavirus: Belgium hit hard by second pandemic wave
Belgium has recorded a steep rise in coronavirus infections. The government has ordered bars and restaurants to close, and urged people to wear face masks and work from home. Hospital workers say they're overwhelmed.

Belgium could soon be overwhelmed by new coronavirus infections, the health minister has warned, amid soaring case numbers across the country.
Frank Vandenbroucke said new cases were close to a "tsunami" where authorities "no longer control what is happening".

Over 2,700 coronavirus patients admitted to hospital in Belgium
A total of more than 2,700 patients with the new coronavirus (Covid-19) are currently admitted to Belgian hospitals, as infection figures in the country keep rising, according to Sciensano’s latest figures on Tuesday.
Between 10 and 16 October, an average of 8,422.4 new people tested positive per day, which is an increase of 69% compared to the week before.

I think a lot of people on here don't seem to realise that this has never really been under control, and it's only going to get worse.

A bit of a shocker - UK to start challenge trials:
Covid-19: UK volunteers could be given virus to test vaccine - BBC News
Especially that the first people will just be infected to determine infectious dose and disease response, basically to set the baseline for the challenge test. The next people will be given trial vaccine, then infected with live virus.
Kinda the nuclear bomb of vaccine trials.

Four university students have been fined £10,000 each after telling police who broke up their house party they were "spoiling their fun".
Officers on patrol spotted a party in Lenton, Nottingham, on Tuesday night but were told everyone had left.
But inside they found more than 30 people hiding and, when challenged, organisers complained they should be having the "time of their lives".
Nottingham Trent University said the third-year students had been suspended.
Mixing of households or support bubbles indoors has been banned since Nottingham went into tier two restrictions on 14 October.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said talks over moving Nottinghamshire into tier three were "ongoing" but the city council's leader said no discussions had started.
Nottingham had the highest level of infection in England for nine days running, with many of the cases centring on areas with a high student population.
Graphic on measures in the new three-tier system for England
Police said after being told the party in Kimbolton Lane had ended, officers found people hiding in the kitchen, upstairs bedrooms and basement.
Assistant Chief Constable Kate Meynell said the people at the property had shown a "blatant disregard for the safety of those around them".
"This needs to stop. The claims that police presented as a barrier to the students' fun are astounding," she said.
"How many fines do we have to give before the message is understood? We do not take pleasure in handing out fines and would much rather be in a situation where students could enjoy themselves but the reality is that if people do not follow the Covid-19 restrictions, more people will die."
A spokesperson for Nottingham Trent University said: "Any student who is found to have breached our disciplinary regulations can face a range of sanctions, up to and including expulsion."
Not good news.
AstraZeneca shares down after death reported in Brazil Covid vaccine study
AstraZeneca shares turned negative Wednesday after a Brazilian health authority, Anvisa, said a volunteer in its coronavirus vaccine study died.
The Federal University of Sao Paulo, which is helping coordinate late-stage trials in Brazil, separately said that the volunteer was Brazilian, according to Reuters.
Shares of AstraZeneca, a front-runner in the Covid-19 vaccine race, gave up a slight gain after the news broke. Shares were down by about 1% in early afternoon trading.
A spokesperson from AstraZeneca declined to comment on the volunteer, citing “medical confidentiality and clinical trial regulations.”
The spokesperson added that ”[a]ll significant medical events are carefully assessed by trial investigators” and ”[t]hese assessments have not led to any concerns about continuation of the ongoing study.”
In a statement, a spokesperson from the University of Oxford, which is developing the vaccine with AstraZeneca, said “there have been no concerns about safety of the clinical trial” after an assessment of the case in Brazil.

Ireland has entered one of the strictest lockdowns in Europe, with people banned from socialising and pubs, restaurants and bars closed.
Now Ireland faces six weeks of Level 5, which the government freely admits will cost €1.5 billion (£1.35bn) and 200,000 jobs.

Christ on a rothar.

Ireland needs a new James Connolly.
The cheese eating surrender monkeys have really fucked it up.

Those graphs don't mean much.
The testing has risen dramatically since the first wave hence the higher positive results.
Yet the death rates are considerably lower.
The real impact but won't be included in the Covid statistics will be on delayed treatments and surgeries for cancer etc...
Derp.

France will extend an overnight curfew to dozens more areas in a bid to slow the spread of coronavirus, Prime Minister Jean Castex has announced.
"The second wave is now under way," he said, shortly before the country announced a record 41,622 new cases.
The 21:00 to 06:00 curfew will come into force at midnight on Friday, and some 46 million people will now be affected by the measure.

Why did we (Europe) get so fu+ked?
I remember not too long ago talking to some dumb krauts on how we should not be so proud of us handling the covid-19 situation. Got some pretty arrogant answers on how we are better then the French, Brits, Italy etc. I told them if these countries are your shining examples then we are fu*ked. I want to measure myself with countries that have handled the situation better then us, not worse. For example S. Korea.
Europe reported 200,000 new cases in a day for the first time.
Globally it almost hit 500,000 new cases.
Could it get to a million new cases a day by year end?
No community transmission here in Queensland, Australia these days. :)
