My mate picked a decent hotel and the food and lodging are by all accounts perfectly fine.

    Except for the alcohol ban....

Nothing I am aware with wrong the with hotels (which you pay for). The government (free) facilities are reported to have less good fare.

Results of Russia's COVID-19 vaccine produced antibody response: The Lancet

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia’s “Sputnik-V” COVID-19 vaccine produced an antibody response in all participants in early-stage trials, according to results published on Friday by The Lancet medical journal that were hailed by Moscow as an answer to its critics.

The results of the two trials, conducted in June-July this year and involving 76 participants, showed 100% of participants developing antibodies to the new coronavirus and no serious side effects, The Lancet said.

Russia licensed the two-shot jab for domestic use in August, the first country to do so and before any data had been published or a large-scale trial begun.

“The two 42-day trials – including 38 healthy adults each – did not find any serious adverse effects among participants, and confirmed that the vaccine candidates elicit an antibody response,” The Lancet said.

“Large, long-term trials including a placebo comparison, and further monitoring are needed to establish the long-term safety and effectiveness of the vaccine for preventing COVID-19 infection,” it said.

The vaccine is named Sputnik-V in homage to the world’s first satellite, launched by the Soviet Union. Some Western experts have warned against its use until all internationally approved testing and regulatory steps have been taken.

But with the results now published for the first time in an international peer-reviewed journal, and with a 40,000-strong later-stage trial launched last week, a senior Russian official said Moscow had faced down its critics abroad.

It may seem so until you visit that link, read carefully what the equipment is and start thinking.

Considering it hadn't actually been identified or named back then, that would be quite a feat.

    Added:

"....the codes were renamed by WCO in April 2020

3002.15 formerly known as "Immunological products, put up in measured doses or in forms or packings for retail sale" was renamed to "Covid-19 Test kit"

3822.00 is basically only Polymere Chain Reaction reagents, which is used basically everywhere you work with DNA.

9027.80 are just laboratory instruments, very non specific and not related specifically made for Covid-19.

So here is what I think that happened. The Website uses the WCO/WHO database to connect product and classification number, once WCO changed the names for the numbers, it was just changed for every Item in the database, thus making old purchases adapt to the new name, which was only given in spring 2020. Which led to give conspiracy theorists the impression, it's a "plandemic"
Of course the whackjobs will be foaming at the mouth.

So some cheese eating surrender monkey who was on the flight from the UK last Tuesday tested positive.

That flight was full. So now they are frantically testing everyone who was on it.

That's why there should be mandatory government quarantine for all arrivals.

Several European countries with increasing numbers of new infections. I expect another set of restrictions to come into force soon.

Meanwhile, looks like many high street shops are going to be closing soon. Many here with stock reduced by 60-70% and a vast reduction in staff.

    Can it get worse?

Thai immigration also officially advising aliens to get their shizzle together as the amnesty ends on the 26th. And that they will have 30 day extension options for tourists. I can't imagine doing border bounces is gonna be quick, easy and painless for those that can't get long term extensions.

It will not be. There are a limited number of visas that can be used to enter Thailand, and the cheapest ASQ hotel is going to run to 30Kish, if you could get booked into one.

India now 2nd worst-hit country by virus amid economic pain

NEW DELHI (AP) — India’s increasing coronavirus caseload made the Asian giant the pandemic’s second-worst-hit country behind the United States on Monday as its efforts to head off economic disaster gain urgency.

The 90,802 cases added in the past 24 hours pushed India’s total past Brazil with 4.2 million cases. India is now only behind the United States, where more than 6.2 million people have been infected, according to Johns Hopkins University.

India’s Health Ministry on Monday also reported 1,016 deaths for a total of 71,642, the third-highest national toll.

The world’s second-most populous country with 1.4 billion people, India has been recording the world’s largest daily increases in coronavirus cases for almost a month. Despite over 2 million new cases in the past month and the virus spreading through the country’s smaller towns and villages, the Indian government has continued relaxing restrictions to try and resuscitate the economy.

Awwww looks like the chinkies are going to beat Vlad....

It's funny though, they are still running phase III trails of the Sinopharm one and they don't even have the data yet, but they are going ahead anyway.

    Fuck that shit.

Three Chinese-made vaccines purported to be safe and effective against Covid-19 have made their debut at a local trade fair, the first to be held for domestic and overseas traders in Beijing since the epidemic first erupted in the country in late December.
Chinese President Xi Jinping will preside over an honor and award ceremony expected to formally unveil the vaccines at the Great Hall of the People on Tuesday (September 8) morning.
The leader is expected to proclaim China’s victory against the virus at the event and commend scientists and researchers who have worked on vaccines, including the nation’s top pulmonologist Zhong Nanshan and People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Major General Chen Wei, who has led the military’s research.
The nation has gone 50 days without any local infections, although there has been a rise in imported cases.
China National Biotech Group, a subsidiary of the state-owned conglomerate China National Pharmaceutical Group Co, Ltd. (SinoPharm) and the Nasdaq-listed Sinovac Biotech Ltd are showcasing at the China International Fair for Trade in Services in Beijing their respective vaccines, both of which are nearing the end of their final, third-stage clinical trials.

Both are reportedly still pending regulatory approval for mass production.

AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) has paused trials for the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Oxford University after a participant in the UK registered adverse effects.

The pharma giant said it is standard routine to allow review of safety data to ensure the integrity of the trials.
“In large trials illnesses will happen by chance but must be independently review to check this carefully,” a spokesperson told STAT News.

“We are working to expedite the review of the single event to minimise any potential impact on the trial timeline.”

The late-stage clinical studies were conducted 30,000 people across the US, South Africa, England, Russia and Brazil.

Oxford’s Professor Andrew Pollard said in August data could be put before regulators as early as this year but ensuring safety and efficacy is paramount.
