I knew the vaccine was not going to be a quick fix discovery, but I kinda thought we would have had a few effective treatments by now.
If they have the drugs and some are FDA approved let’s get them out there.

World’s largest COVID-19 vaccine study begins in US with 30,000 volunteers
ASSOCIATED PRESS | JUL 27, 2020 AT 6:31 AM
The world’s biggest COVID-19 vaccine study got underway Monday with the first of 30,000 planned volunteers helping to test shots created by the U.S. government – one of several candidates in the final stretch of the global vaccine race.
Several other vaccines made by China and by Britain’s Oxford University earlier this month began smaller final-stage tests in Brazil and other hard-hit countries.
But the U.S. requires its own tests of any vaccine that might be used in the country and has set a high bar: Every month through fall, the government-funded COVID-19 Prevention Network will roll out a new study of a leading candidate -- each one with 30,000 newly recruited volunteers.
Next up in August, the final study of the Oxford shot begins, followed by plans to test a candidate from Johnson & Johnson in September and Novavax in October -- if all goes according to schedule. Pfizer Inc. plans its own 30,000-person study this summer.
It normally takes years to create a new vaccine from scratch, but scientists are setting speed records this time around, spurred by knowledge that vaccination is the world's best hope against the pandemic. The coronavirus wasn't even known to exist before late December, and vaccine makers sprang into action Jan. 10 when China shared the virus' genetic sequence.
If everything goes right with the final studies, it still will take months for the first data to trickle in from the Moderna test, followed by the Oxford one.
“We’re optimistic, cautiously optimistic” that the vaccine will work and that “toward the end of the year” there will be data to prove it, Dr. Stephen Hoge, president of Massachusetts-based Moderna, told a House subcommittee last week.
How long does it take to develop a vaccine? | World Economic Forum
Across the world, more than 100 COVID-19 vaccines are currently being developed, with one European pharmaceutical company predicting it could have one ready to go into production globally as early as September.
In China, where the outbreak was first reported, five vaccines are already being tested on humans, and a government body says at least one could be ready by the end of this year.

Russian medical center files bid for WHO tender for coronavirus vaccine
25 July 2020
The deliveries of the inactivated whole-virion vaccine to the international market will be possible only after Russia fully meets its needs for preventive preparations against COVID-19, Center Head Aidar Ishmukhametov said
MOSCOW, July 25. /TASS/. The Chumakov Federal Scientific Center for Research and Development of Immune and Biological Products at the Russian Academy of Sciences has filed a bid for an international tender of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the delivery of the coronavirus vaccine, Center Head Aidar Ishmukhametov told TASS on Saturday.
"We have filed a bid for the WHO’s international tender for vaccine deliveries. It should be noted that the Chumakov Center is Russia’s sole supplier of vaccines that has passed a WHO audit and exports vaccines to more than 50 countries across the world," the scientist said.
"But I would like to say right away that the deliveries of the inactivated whole-virion vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19 developed by the Chumakov Center to the international market will be possible only after Russia fully meets its needs for preventive preparations against COVID-19," he said.
Whole-virion vaccines are based either on artificially weakened viruses incapable of causing a disease or killed (inactivated) viruses. Ishmukhametov told TASS in late June that the Chumakov Center planned to complete the pre-clinical tests of its own coronavirus vaccine by early August and finish its clinical studies in January 2021.
The Chumakov Federal Scientific Center for Research and Development of Immune and Biological Products was created on the basis of the Institute of Poliomyelitis and Virus Encephalitis of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. Academician of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences Mikhail Chumakov was the Institute’s founder and first director (until 1972).
Today the Chumakov Center is a leading world research organization in the sphere of medical virology.
The Chumakov Center has completed the pre-clinical tests of its coronavirus vaccine, Ishmukhametov said.
"We have successfully completed the pre-clinical tests of the inactivated whole-virion vaccine against COVID-19. The tests involved not only small rodents but also primates whose reaction to vaccination is maximally close to human response. The tests showed the vaccine’s high efficiency and safety," he said.

False alarm? Person suspected of bringing 1st Covid-19 case into N. Korea wasn't infected, South believes
27 Jul, 2020
A man who crossed into North Korea and put the city of Kaesong on high alert because he had symptoms resembling coronavirus is unlikely to have been a transmitter of the deadly contagion, Seoul's health officials have claimed.
The man in question – who fled from the North three years ago – returned to his homeland on July 19. He reportedly showed up in Kaesong, his home city, and on-site medical screening returned "uncertain results," Pyongyang's state media reported.
Fearing that he could become North Korea's patient zero, the authorities immediately called a meeting to address an emergency "that may lead to a deadly and destructive disaster." Without explicitly mentioning Covid-19, Kim Jong-un himself said he placed Kaesong on total lockdown as part of a "pre-emptive measure" to contain a potential epidemic.
However, health officials just across the heavily fortified 38th parallel don't believe the runaway could have brought the virus into North Korea.
"The person in question… was not registered as a positive [Covid-19 patient] in the web database of the Center for Disease Control," Yoon Tae-ho, head of South Korea's Central Accident Prevention Headquarters, was quoted as saying by Yonhap on Monday.
"Our data does not confirm that he is a suspected coronavirus patient," Yoon reiterated. The official said that two people "who thought they had frequent contact with this person" were tested the day before, and the tests failed to reveal coronavirus.
Meanwhile, the South Korean military revealed new details of the defector's escape. A spokesperson for the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), Kim Jun-rak, told reporters that the man appears to have passed through a drain under barbed wire fences to evade border guards, which leads to the Yellow Sea.
Then he apparently swam back to North Korea, the JCS officer suggested. "We spotted the specific location from which he fled to the North on Ganghwa Island, as a bag believed to belong to the man was found," he said.
North Korea is arguably one of the few countries that has yet to officially report any Covid-19 cases. Still, the reclusive nation sealed its borders six months ago, as the virus started swirling across the globe.
Its southern neighbor's Covid-19 tally now stands at just over 14,000 as of Monday. The country has reported 299 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins figures.

Is COVID-19 Creating a Generation of Heart Failure Patients?
Two studies published Monday provide the strongest evidence yet that some patients who survive the respiratory ravages of COVID-19 may suffer long-last heart problems—the last indication that the fallout from the pandemic goes well beyond the death toll.
Experts who spoke to The Daily Beast said the twin reports published by the Journal of the American Medical Association should serve as a “wake-up call” to patients and physicians who think the new coronavirus is limited to the lungs.
“These two studies together are telling us that beyond the COVID-19 pneumonia and all of this severe lung damage and injury that can occur, that there is injury going on in a proportion of patients that may cause lasting heart damage,” said Gregg Fonarow, professor of cardiovascular medicine and science at University of California at Los Angeles, who wrote an op-ed about the research for JAMA.

Arkansas state senator Jason Rapert reciting Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg address: (Arkansas PBS - YouTube)An Arkansas senator who shared an article that described the coronavirus pandemic as a “hoax” has contracted Covid-19.
Republican senator Jason Rapert, who unsuccessfully introduced a bill to ban gay marriage in the US in 2017, was hospitalised with coronavirus and pneumonia on 24 July.
Earlier in the year, as many states were beginning to take social distancing measures to attempt to control the spread of the virus, Mr Rapert shared an article on Facebook that called the pandemic the “biggest political hoax in history”.
He has been critical of policies taken to stop the spread of Covid-19 in various social media posts over the last few months and was filmed last week not wearing a face mask at a church service, according to Raw Story.
Although the senator has been pictured wearing a mask previously, he has also been critical of Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson’s executive order that made wearing a face covering mandatory in the state when people are outside and when social distancing is not possible.
Mr Rapert described the mandate as “an overreach of executive power without consultation with the members of the Arkansas legislature,” in a social media post last week.
If the stupid, bald orange turd would just issue a federal mandate, the airline and the fellow passengers these two utter c u n t s inconvenienced could sue them into next week. Then again, they probably wouldn't do it.
I would have been looking for a sly opportunity to ruin their fucking day myself.
Delta Turns Flight Around After Multiple Passengers Refuse to Wear Masks | TravelPulseQuote:
Details are emerging over why a Delta Air Lines flight to Atlanta was turned around and returned to Detroit on Thursday, and once again face masks are the issue.
According to reports, two passengers refused to wear face masks during the flight – a mandate for virtually every airline – and the plane returned to Detroit Metro Airport in suburban Romulus.
A Delta spokesperson told the MLive.com media outlet that the flight was delayed because the passengers “were non-compliant with crew instructions.” The flight did take off again and land in Atlanta after being delayed by the return to Detroit.

Have had conversations with friends in Australia, Israel, USA and, of course, Thailand concerning Covid. Plus a discussion concerning tourism and its imminent return to Thailand – yea, right.
So, here we are. Beautiful Thailand. Six months into the Covid Pandemic. 28 July 2020. 3,297 confirmed cases and 58 deaths.
And, in the world, we have 16,672,134 confirmed cases and 657,262 deaths. Hmm… damn glad I’m locked down in Thailand. What is Thailand doing right?
Well, wearing face masks, hand sanitizer, social distancing, closing borders, closing malls, closing hotels, closing stadiums, closing bars…
and, believe it or not – It Worked.
In Thailand we still have sealed borders. When will they be opened and why should they? Logically speaking, Thailand has proactively protected its people from Covid. Now, if they open the borders… :scratchchin:
Well done Thailand. Maybe you should be speaking out more against the right wing bozo's that you take quarter with in the US who refuse to wear masks and blindly support your orange god.
Honestly you deserve to be locked in the hot south hurricane zone with the rest of the trumpanzee zombies.
Well Snub, could just say that Americans are willing to die for their freedom... from wearing a face mask.
Stupid is as stupid does... there is a hefty price to be paid for stupidity, it may not be illegal but it can be costly.
You are there, I won't attempt to explain it, perhaps a phenomena, or, perhaps a reflection on public education?
as far as blaming it on the "Orange God" your words not mine - the dems tend to do the opposite of the "Orange Gods" commandments, so, the dems should be safe.
It would be alright if just those jackasses died. It would raise the collective IQ of America. The problem is they will take a lot of others with them by spreading COVID.
I went to the post office yesterday in my small village. Looks as though only fat middle aged white men and their spouses are the only ones not wearing masks.
Well, from my most recent US local paper the Philadelphia Inquirer
