Sweden being ostracised by its neighbours.

Every summer for the past 13 years, fans of Nordic culture have gathered on the Norway side of the border with Sweden for the outdoor festival

    ,

which translates roughly to, “Singsong Along the Border.”

But this summer, there will not be any Swedish singers in the live broadcast event, nor will there be any Swedish fans in the audience, singing and clapping along. This year, Swedes are forbidden to enter Norway.

And Norway isn’t the only Scandinavian neighbor barring Swedes from visiting this summer. Denmark and Finland have also closed their borders to Swedes, fearing that they would bring new coronavirus infections with them.

While those countries went into strict lockdowns this spring, Sweden famously refused, and now has suffered roughly twice as many infections and five times as many deaths as the other three nations combined,
according to figures compiled by The New York Times.

A German state is back in lockdown for one week following a surge in coronavirus infections linked to a slaughterhouse. More than 1,500 people have tested positive for coronavirus at the Toennies slaughterhouse in Rheda-Wiedenbrueck and thousands more have been put under a quarantine to try to halt the outbreak. The governor of North Rhine-Westphalia state said people in Guetersloh and parts of a neighbouring county will now face the same kind of restrictions that existed across Germany during the early stages of the pandemic in March and April.

These include limiting the number of people who can meet in public to those from a single household or two people from separate households, Gov. Armin Laschet said. Cinemas, fitness studios and bars will also be closed, although restaurants can continue to cater to people from the same household, he added.

Of the last four months or so, it's been quite obvious as to what societies get it and those who don't.

    The bread and butter basics.
1] Govts and their respected health systems that handled the crisis reasonably well and proceeded with a competent plan.

2] Populations that voluntarily/forcibly adhere to standard safety guideline: wearing masks, physically distancing, avoiding crowds and large groups, sanitizing hygiene, etc.

....as to who are the losers and winners in this ongoing battle.

Coronavirus hospitalizations surge in Arizona, Texas

Coronavirus hospitalizations in Arizona and Texas have hit record numbers as cases continue to surge in states in the South and the West, overwhelming medical professionals.

Arizona reported a record high of 3,591 new cases Tuesday, with nearly 60,000 known cases in the state overall. The swell in cases comes as President Donald Trump is set to hold a rally at a Phoenix megachurch Tuesday.

There was a surge in the number of inpatient beds occupied by positive or suspected COVID-19 patients, with 2,136 beds occupied, compared to 1,992 Sunday, according to data from the state's Department of Health Services.

Meanwhile, 84 percent of intensive care unit beds were in use at Arizona hospitals and 83 percent of inpatient beds were in use as of Monday, according to the data.

India calls in army to run facilities in Delhi as cases surge

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India reported 16,000 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, its highest daily increase since the outbreak began, and the government called in the army to manage new treatment centres with thousands of additional hospital beds in New Delhi.

At more than 456,000 confirmed coronavirus cases so far, India is the fourth worst hit country in the world, behind the United States, Brazil and Russia, according to a Reuters tally.

Cases are expected to keep rising as state governments ease restrictions in place since lockdown was first imposed in late March.

The problem with the US is baldy orange cunto.

Obama had a Pandemic Plan and team which he passed on to Baldy and which was not only ignored, but dismantled.

Obama would have at least published federal and CDC guidelines, and probably imposed some of the restrictions on the nation with an EO.

Baldy is a gibbering spastic who crows about what his administration is doing (which is next to fuck all), leaves the states to do what they like, and doesn't understand any of the science, not that he listens to it anyway.

You might consider the American society along with the obvious stumbling indifference/ignorance from WH circles.

I have to agree. So many people think COVID is overblown and won’t affect them. Half the plague rats are out there not wearing masks because the lord will protect them, not giving a shit if they are spreading the disease to others.

It is heartbreaking. For 100 years, America has been on the forefront of infectious disease research and control. They literally were the standard by which every thing was set against. You could almost see the real pain in Fauci today, reducing that one hundred years to two point. A. Do not go into crowds. B. If you do go into crowds, wear a mask. That is it. And you could see he knew he was wasting his breath.

Dow plunges 700 points as Florida sees record jump in coronavirus cases

“The latest coronavirus news is not positive for the stock market which was betting the worst of the pandemic recession was behind us,” said Chris Rupkey, chief financial economist at MUFG.
“All the hopes of investors looking for a better economy to improve the bottom lines of companies shut down in the recession have been dashed.
Forget about the fears of the virus coming back in the fall, the number of new cases and hospitalizations in states like Arizona, Texas, and Florida says the threat is happening right now.”

If the virus ever got a proper foothold in SE Asia in the same way it did in Europe then you would see the true state of the regions health infrastructure. It would be carnage, the temples wouldn't be able to burn the bodies quick enough.

Amazing that a country like Thailand, which can't prevent 60+ deaths on the roads / day can handle this pandemic so well.. Maybe it's because they don't have monopolized Western media 24/7, and old folk's homes where Covid can be attributed to people dying of any underlying symptoms of old age.?
