Tsk Tsk, those pesky imported salmon must have been swimming around the oceans with bats and pangolins.
Coronavirus: Parts of Beijing locked down due to virus cluster linked to meat market | Al Arabiya EnglishEleven residential estates in south Beijing have been locked down due to a fresh cluster of coronavirus cases linked to a nearby meat market, officials said on Saturday.
Seven cases have so far been linked to Xinfadi meat market, six of them confirmed on Saturday, officials said. Nine nearby schools and kindergartens have been closed.
The chairman of the Xinfadi meat wholesale market told state-run Beijing News that the virus was detected on chopping boards used to handle imported salmon.
City authorities on Friday closed two markets visited by one of the known cases.
Major supermarket chains including Wumart and Carrefour removed all stocks of salmon overnight in the capital, but said supplies of other products would not be affected, Beijing Daily reported Saturday.
AFP reporters saw dozens of police officers deployed at the two markets.
The novel coronavirus is believed to have jumped from an animal to humans at a Wuhan market that sold wildlife.
The first new case in Beijing after two months -- who had no recent travel history outside the city -- was reported on Thursday, and authorities confirmed two more infections the next day.
China reported 11 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, including six domestic cases in the capital, that raised concerns about a resurgence.
The majority of China's cases in recent months were overseas nationals tested as they returned home, with the domestic outbreak brought largely under control after the disease first emerged in the central city of Wuhan last year.

Goodness gracious, I'am making salmon today in the smoker.
Oh dear what a calamity. One puts up posts and the soi dogs gather. Am I afraid, very afraid?
Nah, they run away with their tails between their legs, if I can be bothered to snarl at them.
I believe there is an "ignore selected posters" button, available to all posters. It's use may improve your life.

Why COVID-19 Is a Threat to the Entire Nervous System
A new review of neurological symptoms of COVID-19 patients in current scientific literature reveals the disease poses a global threat to the entire nervous system, reports a Northwestern Medicine study published this week in Annals of Neurology.
About half of hospitalized patients have neurological manifestations of COVID-19, which include headache, dizziness, decreased alertness, difficulty concentrating, disorders of smell and taste, seizures, strokes, weakness and muscle pain.
“It’s important for the general public and physicians to be aware of this, because a SARS-COV-2 infection may present with neurologic symptoms initially, before any fever, cough or respiratory problems occur,” said lead author of the review, Dr. Igor Koralnik, Northwestern Medicine chief of neuro-infectious diseases and global neurology and a professor of neurology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
The review describes the different neurological conditions that may occur in COVID-19 patients and how to diagnose them, as well as likely pathogenic mechanisms.
“This understanding is key to direct appropriate clinical management and treatment,” Koralnik said.
The disease may affect the entire nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord and nerves as well as the muscles. There are many different ways COVID-19 can cause neurological dysfunction, he said. Because this disease may affect multiple organs (lung, kidney, heart), the brain may also suffer from lack of oxygenation or from clotting disorders that may lead to ischemic or hemorrhagic strokes.
In addition, the virus may cause direct infection of the brain and meninges. Finally, the reaction of the immune system to the infection may cause inflammation that can damage the brain and nerves.
Koralnik and colleagues have formed a Neuro-COVID research team and started a retrospective analysis of all COVID-19 patients hospitalized at Northwestern Medicine to determine the frequency and type of neurological complications, as well as response to treatment.
Since knowledge about the long term outcome of neurologic manifestations of COVID-19 is limited, Koralnik also will follow some of those patients prospectively in his new outpatient Neuro-COVID clinic to determine if neurological problems are temporary or permanent. These studies will provide the foundation on how to diagnose, manage and treat the many neurologic manifestations of COVID-19, he said.

Chinadaily again. Do you really expect to get the truth from them?
And ^^ that's some nasty shit, and yet some people have very mild to no symptoms.
Meanwhile in the states they seem to have decided it's time to move on. No more briefings it's back to business as usual.
Must have reached or extended the limits of Trumps attention span.

BY MIMI NGUYEN LY
June 13, 2020 Updated: June 13, 2020
A tick-bite disease called anaplasmosis yields similar symptoms to COVID-19, and is reportedly on the rise in New York state.
The bacterial disease is mainly contracted by tick bites and can lead to headache, fever, chills, and muscle aches, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The same symptoms are listed for COVID-19, the disease caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, also known as the novel coronavirus.
“That’s one that’s really on the rise, particularly in the northeastern part of New York,” Byron Backenson, deputy director of the state Health Department’s Bureau of Communicable Disease Control, told the Adirondack Explorer on June 4.
“[There] are areas of the state where we see ticks that are much more infected with the bacteria that cause anaplasmosis,” he added.
New York state, not including New York City, had 300 cases of anaplasmosis in 2009, and that number had more than tripled by 2018, according to the magazine.
The main ticks that spread the bacteria to humans are the blacklegged tick (Ixodes scapularis) and the western blacklegged tick (Ixodes pacificus), according to the CDC. They are also called deer ticks. The disease can be fatal if untreated.
Anaplasmosis is commonly treated with the antibiotic doxycycline, according to the CDC.
Backenson said that public awareness of the rise in anaplasmosis has been dampened due to the current CCP virus pandemic across the nation.
Lyme disease, which is also tick-borne, is the most prevalent in New York, with 5,500 new cases in the state each year.
The New York Health Department has a general guide that covers a number of diseases caused by tick bites.
Deer ticks live in shady, moist areas at ground level and tend to cling to tall grass, brush, and shrubs but not too far off the ground. They also roam in lawns and gardens and the edges of woods and old stone walls.
It is best to avoid contact with soil, leaf litter, and vegetation overall to avoid tick bites altogether, the department advises.
But if people wish to garden, hike, or spend time outdoors, they can protect themselves against bites by doing the following:
- Wear light-colored clothing with a tight weave to spot ticks easily.
- Wear enclosed shoes, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. Tuck pant legs into socks or boots and shirt into pants.
- Check clothes and any exposed skin frequently for ticks while outdoors and consider using insect repellent.
- Stay on cleared, well-traveled trails. Walk in the center of trails. Avoid dense woods and bushy areas.
- Keep long hair tied back, especially when gardening.
- Bathe or shower as soon as possible after going indoors (preferably within 2 hours) to wash off and more easily find ticks.

Researchers in Thailand testing horseshoe bats for coronavirus
" Researchers in Thailand began collecting samples from horseshoe bats to test them for coronavirus amid concerns they may pose a threat to local residents, a government statement said on Saturday. They plan to collect 300 bats over three days from a cave in the Chanthaburi province in the southeast of the country. The bats will be released following the tests.
Thailand has 23 species of the horseshoe bat, but there has not been an investigation before.
The source of the virus remains a matter of debate after it emerged in China late last year.
The World Health Organization (WHO) in April said that all available evidence suggests that it originated in bats in China, but it was not clear how the virus had jumped the species barrier to humans.
The research team in Thailand includes Supaporn Wacharapluesadee, who identified the country’s first case of COVID-19 in January
.
“The reason we need to investigate the horseshoe bat is because there are reports from China that the COVID-19 virus is similar to the virus found in the horseshoe bat,” Supaporn said.
Thailand was the first country outside China to record a case of the virus. It has so far reported 3,134 cases and 58 deaths.
Researchers from the National Parks Department, Chulalongkorn Hospital and Kasetsart University entered the cave on Thursday evening and re-emerged in the early hours of Friday with samples of bat blood, saliva and feces.
Investigators were concerned that villagers in the area could be at risk of infection.
Locals have been known to eat bats, Supaporn said, adding adequate education and information programs were needed.
Local transmissions have waned in recent weeks with new cases coming from Thais returning from overseas. "

The virus appears to be more potent than wishful thinking, so if as the article says new cases are limited to incoming Thais, then it makes sense to keep those infected wherever they are, even if the Gazette says otherwise.
We await the "requirements" regarding foreigners being admitted into LOS, that the Thai government are allegedly preparing.
Cambodia has posted their requirements for tourists flying in.
One wonders if "Long Stay Aliens" whose only foreign travels are to ASEAN countries, will be as stringent as for the tourists from outside the ASEAN + any "important countries", group.
I'm sure there is a massive queue at the airport.
God Bless America....

Just the charge for his room in the intensive care unit was billed at $9,736 per day. Due to the contagious nature of the virus, the room was sealed and could only be entered by medical workers wearing plastic suits and headgear. For 42 days he was in this isolation chamber, for a total charged cost of $408,912.
He also was on a mechanical ventilator for 29 days, with the use of the machine billed at $2,835 per day, for a total of $82,215. About a quarter of the bill is drug costs.
The list of charges indirectly tells the story of Flor’s battle. For the two days when his heart, kidneys and lungs were all failing and he was nearest death, the bill runs for 20 pages and totals nearly $100,000 as doctors “were throwing everything at me they could think of,” Flor says.
In all, there are nearly 3,000 itemized charges, about 50 per day. Usually hospitals get paid only a portion of the amount they bill, as most have negotiated discounts with insurance companies. The charges don’t include the two weeks of recuperating he did in a rehab facility.

More data showing the chinkies were covering up the state of their epidemic.
It seems eight crematoriums were working around the clock when the Chinese claimed they had only a few hundred deaths.
HooHoo will probably tell us they were cooking extra supplies of crispy duck to feed those in lockdown.

Public warned vs dengue, leptospirosis even as COVID-19 persists | ABS-CBN NewsMANILA - An infectious disease expert on Sunday warned the public against diseases common during the rainy season even as the country continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.
The diseases dubbed as WILD, or waterborne, influenza, leptospirosis, and dengue, all have flu-like symptoms, according to Eric Tayag, former chief of the National Epidemiology Center.
"Magiging mahirap nga yan sa mga health providers to distinguish between these diseases common during the rainy season. Ngayong tag-ulan, inaasahan natin ang pagtaas ng mga kaso sa binansagan nating WILD diseases," he told ABS-CBN's TeleRadyo.
What with all the special handling, expensive equipment in short supply, lack of special suits etc - which take hours to wash, scrub, dry and disinfect, shift change handovers .....
The staff probably spent all their time eating the said crispy duck/bat and dozing, as you suggest.
(Their is a time delay between you posting, me sending the question back to Beijing, receiving payment/Beijing's reply and me posting on TD.)
I don't have a link, but read on a credible msm site about 4 months ago, before the virus went into overdrive when China was claiming minimal deaths, that urn factories were working 24/7, and struggling to meet demand from crematoria that were burning in overdrive.
No word that's come out from China in the past 6 months should be accepted without independent verification, which as we know is not going to happen, so the intl community should grow up and stop naively believing that China is our friend, or that after knowingly infecting the world, the CPC would move away from character and share accurate data to mitigate their clear and brazen serial deceit.
I was in tukcom yesterday for a webcam and a security camera, I reckon outside of the Thai stuff at ground level about 90% of everything in that building is made in China. Fcuk 'em, I'll get quality European ones in the UK, don't mind the wait or the vig, not that the CPC will notice or care that I bought from a competitor.
Those in charge either wean us off strategic dependence on shite Chink products, or accept the status quo, enough with the hollow rhetoric, and stop whining as we suffer the consequences.
Over to you, hoho...
