The old cheese eating surrender monkeys have aircraft carrier woes now.

A third of the sailors on France's aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle - 668 out of nearly 2,000 - are infected with coronavirus, the navy says.

The ship returned to the French port of Toulon early from Atlantic exercises. Twenty sailors are in hospital, one of them in intensive care.

The figure for those infected is likely to rise, as 30% of the test results are not yet in. The navy is investigating how so many sailors caught the virus.

    France's Covid-19 death toll is 17,167.

Of those 10,643 died in hospital. French health authorities said on Wednesday 6,457 Covid-19 patients were in intensive care in France - 273 fewer than on Tuesday.

The aircraft carrier is now in quarantine. Last week it was brought home 10 days early from its Atlantic deployment after some sailors showed symptoms.

well, the Chinese have a lot to gain in this situation, they have all the medical supplies and can't send them to the west for now

they claim they can't export to the US because of some export paperwork is blocking them to ship medical supplies

Well, Betty the official numbers have doubled in a fortnight. It's going to have to sprint home to get to 10X within the month.

The chances are, of course, that it has spread far more than the official statistics and is much more infectious than has been estimated. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the 'flu I had in late January wasn't this virus...certainly had all the hallmarks with very dry cough, aching muscles, and fever.

Germany is going to take the softly, softly approach to ease the lock down. I have heard 4th May for most Bundesländer but possibly 11 May for Bavaria. Some more shops and libraries to open but no big events such as sports or concerts. There is talk of Oktoberfest being cancelled this year as well; not a bad idea considering.

According to the stats from worldometers.info the UK is not at its peak yet. (daily numbers taken and a third order polynomial applied).

I don't know if this has been posted, but here's a new interview of Prof. Kim, infectious diseases expert in Korea. Very informative. With English subtitles.

In case you hadn't watched the first interview, this was an interview 2 weeks ago. He states the measures Korea took to be able to flatten the curve. Again, with English subtitles. This was posted 28 March.

Yes, I've noticed there's a general slow down - which I hope is good.

But, are the likes of India and Brazil really growing as slowly as stated? I don't know, but after all this crap and irritation, I'd be happy for some good news to come, so lower number of cases and lower mortality rates are a win win as far as I'm concerned.
    Cycling should be banned!!!

The scientists seem happy with the progress but they caution against taking the proverbial foot off the proverbial gas.

UK coronavirus lockdown extended for three weeks, government confirms

At Thursday's Downing Street coronavirus press briefing foreign secretary Dominic Raab confirmed the UK lockdown will last until at least May 7. He was joined by chief medical officer Chris Whitty and chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance.

    Don't be stupid.

It clearly says that if you were there you should call someone who probably won't have a fucking clue what you're on about.

Sacrificing a few old codgers to restart the economy?

It may unfortunately have to come to that scenario as being the only solution, and that is the opinion of an old codger!

Let's say you want to be tested but can't afford it, and as we know free testing in the 3W is not as widespread as perhaps it should be, what's to stop you reporting to the authorities that you were there on that day?

Since a critical part of such reporting is for the authorities to audit movements and hopefully identify carriers and hotspots, surely they couldn't fob you off with self-isolation advice, which is already the effective order of the day anyway, and the only other option is to test you.

    The supermarket, not the mall.

I've not seen the Thai version and thus whether the provincial authorities stated, supermarket or mall.

My experience of malls, worldwide, suggests malls are designed to have, the alpha/anchor stores at the extreme ends. The entry points situated in the middle of the mall/mall arms. In addition the escalators, to change levels, are generally at the ends. This requires the sheep to walk past the smaller stores and a high % enter, browse and some purchase.

From my wife's reaction to village rumours and her online friends. I suggest they would comply. Many would think, "It's lucky we didn't go into xyz store."

An article suggesting epidemiologists and virologists are the wrong group to consult, due to their analysis methodology.

"These people are useful for the knowledge they possess of past epidemics, not for predicting what will happen in the next one, certainly not if it’s caused by a virus which they -and we- simply don’t know enough about to build a reliable model. In that case, you need to step back and apply more basic principles. Lucky for us, those exist."

It suggest other groups have better.

"Lucky for us, we have people who DO understand these things. Unlucky for us, our “leadership” doesn’t listen to them. They think that an epidemiologist or two, three, should be enough. But neither the “leaders” nor the epidemiologists understand the limits every single scientific field has. They don’t understand what happens when scientists venture out of their chosen field. And most of all, they don’t understand what complex systems are.

Talk of relaxing measures in a couple of weeks?

Having gone into economic meltdown, late but still, not sure it's the right time for optimism to sound the all clear on the basis of a few numbers falling. Quite aside from knowing that the numbers are under reported and therefore suspect, 'experts' expect a second wave and by some accounts this could be worse than the first flight.

Sure it's guesswork, but so is most everything else that has been tried, and while authorities celebrate numbers tailing off or rising slower than before they still don't know much more about the virus than they did 3 months ago.

    Another dumb jesus wheezer.

The lawyer for a Louisiana megachurch that is defying state social distancing orders has been hospitalized with COVID-19.

Jeff Wittenbrink, 59, who represents the Life Tabernacle Church, is now on oxygen at Baton Rogue General, struggling to breathe after coming down with the virus.

Speaking from his hospital bed Thursday, Wittenbrink told
The Advocatehe was baffled as to how he contracted the disease.

    ‘I went to Albertson’s twice a day. I went to Sam’s. I went to
Walmart. I went to Lowe’s. I used the gas pumps. I mean I just wasn’t careful. God knows where I got it. The bad thing is I might have spread to somebody. I feel bad about that,’ he stated.

Wittenbrink made no mention of the fact that he could possibly have picked up the virus – or passed it on to others – at Life Tabernacle, where he attended two services earlier this month.

The Advocate reports that he was at the megachurch on April 2, and again on Palm Sunday (April 5).

Chinkies attempting to simulate transparency - not very well, obviously.

China has revised its official death toll from the novel coronavirus, raising the number of fatalities attributed to the pandemic by more than a third.

Officials in Wuhan, where the virus was first reported late last year, on Friday added 1,290 coronavirus deaths to the city's toll. They also added 325 confirmed cases to the city tally.

The total number of cases recorded in the city now stands at 50,333, with 3,869 deaths. The previous reported death toll for Wuhan was 2,579 -- so the revised figure marks a 50% increase in the number of deaths in the city from coronavirus.

Looks like the Brazilian baldy orange cunto is going one step further than his cretinous counterpart.

Brazil's Health Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta said Thursday he'd been sacked by President Jair Bolsonaro, after weeks of clashes between the two over the country's response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Mr Mandetta made the announcement on Twitter following a meeting with Mr Bolsonaro at the presidential palace in the capital Brasilia.

Their relationship had deteriorated since the start of the virus crisis.

Mr Mandetta promoted isolation as a tool to contain the spread of the virus, the threat of which Mr Bolsonaro repeatedly claimed was overblown.

The announcement had been expected for several days given the number of clashes between the pair and their seemingly incompatible outlooks.

Soon after the announcement, people in several towns banged pots and pans to protest the minister's sacking.

    ^^

"Officials explained that the deaths had initially gone uncounted because in the early stages of the pandemic some people died at home, overwhelmed medics were focused on treating cases rather than reporting deaths and a delay in collecting figures from various government and private organizations.

They added that the figures had been revised to show "accountability to history, to the people and the victims," as well as to ensure "open and transparent disclosure of information and data accuracy."

Wuhan officials have revised the city's coronavirus death toll up by 50% - CNN

Another way of reporting the numbers.

I look forward to all countries similarly reporting all their numbers in a similar way.
