I'm pretty worried about a second wave coming to Korea. I also have zero belief in a chart that shows China having the problem under control. With Africa, India, South America, etc, yet to really take off like the US/Europe is doing (and the US will have 1 million+++ in a month), I see something approaching x10 increases month on month for the next 3 months. Perhaps 3-6 months thereafter for it to level out and drop if no vaccine is found. I don't see any signs of Europe peaking now, maybe in a month or two?

You simply cannot look at Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong as a model for Europe, US, India, Africa, etc - they are two completely separate models with the latter just out of control. China pretends to be in the first model, but I just find that impossible to believe (I hope it's true though).
The rate of infection in Italy two weeks ago was such that we were predicting 0.5-1.2m infections and 20,000+ deaths by now if the rate remained the same.

The lockdown has obviously brought the rate down and I don't think you can expect the same infection rate in Europe over the next month.

USA is a different matter and there are various parts of the world that the infection can spread.

Your outlook is too negative and suggests it won't be brought under control with the current restrictions. I want to think a little more positively.

I also think there will be a vaccine available for public use by October and the virus will be consigned to history...

China made a big deal about "having it under control" after lying for so long, but then just when they were trying to parade people around in this "post-Virus" era, they have started shutting down counties again, and issued a nationwide closure order on cinemas.

They are trying to claim that all of their "new" infections are coming from "outsiders", but the chances are they have realised that there are reinfections and asymptomatic spreaders in the mix, and they are trying to keep it quiet - AGAIN.

There is increasing talk about the scope of the lockdown. It will be impossible to maintain it at the present level without the economy crashing. Probably required to accept a somewhat higher rate of infections and even more strictly quarantine the risk grops. That way the infection remains manageable.

Considered things like reopen schools and kindergarten and accept the resulting number of infections. That way flock immunity can be achieved before a vaccine is available. People, even children will die if that policy is implemented but the long term effects of an economic crash are higher.

My wife and me are in the higher risk group as are most of our neighbours. Maybe need to reduce food shopping to once a week or less. Presently our stock at home will get us through 2-3 weeks without hardship.

the only way out for now is to instate a global shutdown of Chinese tourism and travelling, for the next 50 years

it's obvious the fookers can't learn, with SARS and COVID-19, they will keep eating everything they find and contaminate us all

we all knew the next financial crisis will originate from China, so here we have it now

    Patong quarantined.

Lockdown on Phuket's Patong to curb Covid-19

Thais not confident in government measures.

Majority not confident in govt's ability to contain Covid-19: Poll

The government vows to take legal action against those who fled quarantine after returning on a flight to Thailand on Friday night and failed to report themselves by deadline last evening.
It has demanded the 158 people who arrived at Suvarnabhumi airport enter 14-day state quarantine, in line with the Emergency Decree issued on April 2. Many passengers defied the order, triggering public outrage amid concerns about the spread of Covid-19 from imported cases.
Taweesilp Visanuyothin, spokesman for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), said 152 people who defied the quarantine order had until 6pm yesterday to report to authorities or face legal action under the Emergency Decree.

By mid-evening last night, 134 returnees had reported nationwide. As for the rest, local police have been ordered to arrest them.

    Roundup of airport escapees begins

.... But officially they had all "reported"....

All 152 Thai people mistakenly allowed to go home after returning to the country on Friday have reported to the authorities as requested, police said on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the gimp that didn't even stop them has been replaced.

A military source said Maj Gen Kosol, who allowed the 152 passengers to go home, was replaced by another officer, Gen Paripat Palasin. He would face an investigation for his handling of the situation, the source said.
An earlier version of this story suggested that the 152 had refused to enter quarantine, but a widely-shared video clip appears to show they were allowed to return to their homes by authorities.
152 sought for quarantine report to authorities: police

I think you should be and it is basically a matter of when the vulnerable part of population dies - now or in the autumn and when a country gets herd immunity for a big part of their population.
I believe that Italy and Spain will not be much affected by a second wave, they are taking the loss today.

    China Economy

For some Chinese businesses, there’s no going back to life before the coronavirus

This photo taken on March 23, 2020 shows employees eating during lunch break at an auto plant of Dongfeng Honda in Wuhan in China’s central Hubei province.

    Key Points

    • As of March 29, official figures showed small and medium-sized enterprises nationwide had resumed work at a rate of 76.8%, but it’s unclear how quickly that figure can rise.
    • As of Monday, more than 429,000 business have dissolved or suspended operations for the year so far, according to analysis from Qichacha, which runs a Chinese business information database.
    • The Chinese government announced Tuesday a slew of additional measures to support small and medium-sized enterprises, including smaller banks.

There is also a good 8min video in that link on ... Is a Global Debt Crisis coming?

For some Chinese businesses, no going back to pre-coronavirus ways

I'am sure the Chinese are very busy hacking into western laboratories right now. Slimy bastards!
I will provide a link to my theory in about 1-4 month

The Chinese people need to accept the fact that they are responsible for an outbreak that can be compared to a world war.
Hopefully they will have to pay a very high price for this.

    No, wishful thinking...

Look at countries like Turkey starting to grow, it's obviously gonna explode. India, Pakistan, South Africa, etc, the numbers are gonna make European numbers look small. All this over the next month or two. Don't forget to add in Mexico, Brazil, the list goes on.

There was a x10 increase over the last 30 days when we started with less than half the countries as now infected, around 80 or so, it's now at 180; of course the next two months will grow globally at around x10 per month. Why would anybody presume differently? What has changed to stop the consistent patterns we've already seen from playing out in new countries, especially 3rd world countries with massive populations, poverty and over-crowding - it's gonna be worse, but might not be recorded - how would India, for example, record their cases? Do they have the healthcare infrastructure?

If this virus ends with less than 100 million being infected and a few million deaths, then from this point, that's a very good ending - indeed, those numbers would be a very optimistic prediction from this point.
    Cycling should be banned!!!

They probably will. I expect a shakeup of the world economy structure. Too many items were single sourced, mostly from China. All just in time, no stocks.

More stock and more than one source will increase cost a little but make the economic structure much less vulnerable to disruption.

It didn't help that the chinkies went around quietly buying up supplies from around the world while they were hiding the mess they were in.

Now countries are finding that they don't have the stocks they expected.

Chaos at Bangkok airport as returning Thailand residents REFUSE to go into quarantine
    Newsflare

There was chaos at Bangkok airport tonight (April 3) after hundreds of Thais returning home REFUSED to go into Covid-19 quarantine.

Flights from the U.S. and Japan carrying Thai nationals landed at the Suvarnabhumi Airport in central Thailand. The citizens were returning home to be with family during the coronavirus pandemic. However, many were unaware of strict government measures introduced on Thursday requiring all arrivals to be quarantined for 14 days and undergo government health checks. Further, a curfew that became active at 10pm local time meant that they were unable to leave the airport building, with cars, taxis and trains banned and violators facing up to two years in prison.

The rules sparked chaos in the flight-side arrivals area near the baggage carousels - with some passengers allegedly trying to run past guards. Footage shows crowds of jet-lagged passengers - who thought they would be heading straight home after long flights - angrily surrounding police. An officer says that he is ''taking orders from the government'' and the passengers would have to go to a quarantine facility for 14 days.

Thailand had already banned any non-residents from entering the country on March 26 but citizens were allowed to return if they had a letter from their Embassy and a 'fit to fly' certificate before boarding.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said the government introduced the strict new rules as it needs time to properly prepare for state quarantine. "Related agencies will in the meantime prepare the places and coordinate with Thai embassies to ensure all Thais returning home will be quarantined and get proper medical checks," he said. Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said the new measures started immediately on Thursday and would continue until April 15. "If the number of arrivals does not drop, people in our country will be infected,'' he said.

    Another cruise ship arrives home.

2 Passengers Die Aboard "Coral Princess" Cruise Ship Amid Another COVID-19 "Nightmare At Sea"

"Two people on the Coral Princess cruise ship died overnight, after the ship reported 12 positive cases of coronavirus on Thursday, according to an announcement from the ship’s captain, who said the ship likely wouldn’t arrive in South Florida on Saturday as planned, but would rather make landfall on Sunday"

    "
Princess Cruises said guests who are deemed "fit to fly" are expected to start disembarking Sunday and will transfer straight to Miami International Airport to catch flights home. Meanwhile, anyone with respiratory symptoms who is not too sick to require immediate hospitalization, or who is recovering from being sick previously, will stay on the ship until they are cleared by doctors on board."

"The ship is carrying 1,898 people, including 1,020 guests. It left San Antonio, Chile, on March 5, a week before the cruise line announced it would suspend operations after the debacle with the "Diamon Princess""

2 Passengers Die Aboard "Coral Princess" Cruise Ship Amid Another COVID-19 "Nightmare At Sea" | Zero Hedge

12 positives, presumably the ship has tests available. Unknown number fit to fly, unknown number with respiratory symptoms.

Possibly 1,886 flying out of Miami to domestic or international destinations.

    What could go wrong?

The Chinese people are victims much as the infected world. It's the CCP that's fcuking it up for everyone, and worst part is it looks too big to fail.

I suppose we'll find out in a few months, when they shrug and expect to resume business as usual with stolen tech, wet markets et al.

What I would like to know and never will is how the WHO, a UN organ, became a slave to the CCP? It's logo of a snake coiled around the world is well suited.

The rounded them up. From the Post.

All 152 Thai people mistakenly allowed to go home after returning to the country on Friday have reported to the authorities as requested, police said on Saturday.
Of the 152, 104 reported to the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) at Suvarnabhumi airport and 48 others at the Damrongtham Centre in their home provinces, said assistant police chief Piya Uthayo, who is also the police spokesman.

You're selling yourself short with 100m Betty. Swine flu infected 1.4bn in a year. The thing is that once Europe and SE Asia is over it and a vaccine becomes available the situation will return to normal. The US has lost a few friends over its recent tactics and is going to suffer for it. Unfortunately, third world countries won't count much and stats will be largely unavailable or ignored.
