In Korea, folks are very pessimistic. I was speaking with experienced nurses today, and the expectation is a massive influx of cases in Korea within the month, thousands at least.

Koreans were saying the Chinese are lying, flat out, they've done it endlessly in similar situations, and closing down one city when it has clearly spread throughout China is far too little and 2 to 3 weeks too late.

The question is the mortality rate??? This will spread as far and more than SARS, but how many people will die? We hope, only thousands, but if the mortality rate is higher than the Chinese are admitting than we're talking big numbers. This will be totally global in two weeks, people thinking otherwise or playing it down are in another wold...
    Cycling should be banned!!!

(it was only a matter of time, with all the Chinese tourists & workers here. The woman above is said to be a student.)

Meanwhile, Du30 is not keen to stop flights from China. Several lawmakers have made noise (to ban flights), but Du30 hasn't changed his stance.

The entire region is infested with these fuckers and the time is past.

    Batten down the hatches.

The wingman procured a supply of face masks which I tried out today. Fucking uncomfortable, feels like one is breathing in a sauna, the sun glasses get all steamed up and after a few minutes the sweat starts streaming.
Shagging with it on is a definite no-no.

    Har, har.

Duterte portrays himself as such a strongman with his threats, boasts and off-the cuff oratory but he is just a thug.

Can you imagine if the virus takes hold in the PIs, with the dismal health care system and slums with millions of people eking out a living there, wall to wall . . . disastrous if prevention isn't taken seriously

@panama hat - yes, that's exactly how many Filipinos feel - we know that our health care system can't handle it. Public hospitals are already full to the brim with regular patients. And yes, there are loads of poor people. That's why there are many who want to ban the entry of Chinese flights & cruise ships. Masks are in short supply already, due to the volcano eruption 2 weeks ago. But the govt isn't budging.

How long will it take for Duterte to come crawling to the U.S. and asking for help?
He bet on a country that is doomed to fail for the obvious reasons.

I suspect most of the world is in the same position. The western countries will, as you say, ban the Chinese, but too late? The WHO is still looking and sounding positive ....

Which may alleviate the local political posturing. Unfortunately as we have seen, the virus is present not just in Chinese people.

There will be 100,000 of foreign tourists who were potentially exposed, who returned "home" feeling healthy prior to the public becoming aware. They have returned through unguarded entries, returned to their daily lives, unknowingly spreading the virus. Only now, a few weeks later may begin to show symptoms.

We have one young woman I know of in our village. I've know her for years, returned from China early January. She is in year 4 of a 6 year medical university course in China. She has been living with her family, meeting her old friends, celebrating the Chinese New Year .... She looks healthy, entered through BKK airport ....... but who knows. Certainly the local Chinese New Years Dinner/discotheque was a similar event to previous years.

Anyone, including foreign diplomats, including as were are seeing in the land of the free, are/should be quarantining returnees in their own way. Some are being offloaded in Alaska for "tests", allegedly

As others are suggesting, airline crews will not accept piloting or stewarding commercial flights soon. Ships, trains, bus services, will all start to deteriorate due to staff "staying at home". As for the cruise ship patrons .... I've always thought they were a ridiculous way of holidaying, but to each there own.

Their are plenty of movies out there which have depicted various outcomes to view and consider what plans you have to make, today. Food, water any essentials, each of you require, gathered. Our daily local village markets are still fully stocked/visited, the city stores have normal supplies. What happens when their supply chain falters .....

Rice, twigs and the abundant chickens as usual, or not .....

If you've ever been to the PIs you wouldn't say that. The country is spread over 7.600 islands, the healthcare system is a mess and every larger city has a teeming population of slum-dwellers . . . imagine 100 million people with a large portion unable to access even basic healthcare. This is where, unfortunately, the tens of thousands of Filipino nurses around the world could be of use at home.

A beautiful country, for sure, but beset with more problems than most others

Not just western countries, many Asian countries have taken the lead on this, the latest being the state of Sabah, in Malaysia

Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Nepal, PNG etc... why would you turn this into a racial thing? Your great satan, the USA, hasn't.

China has even banned China, in terms of group tours.

The problem is the two week lag, the true rates are likely 10 to 50 times those published

Thought I caught the foker today when laid out on me sofa at 5pm shivering and cold sweating like a coont.

Few evening beers seem to have sorted it out.
